“Our
work proves the feasibility of both ground-based and satellite-based free-space
Quantum Teleportation. Our experiment represents a crucial step toward future Quantum
Networks in space, which require space to ground Quantum communication.”
European and Canadian
Scientist involved in Quantum Teleportation experiment
Quantum
Teleportation is now very much possible. This thanks to the work of European
and Canadian scientists who recently managed to synchronize the Quantum Mechanical
states of two similar samples of atoms separated by a distance of 90 miles
using what is effectively FLORA (Fiberless Optical Receiver Array) Network as
stated in the article “Scientists
teleport info 90 miles across islands”, published August 15,
2012 10:00 AM PDT by Tim Hornyak, CNET
News.
The original
story was reported in the Scientific American, stating that a team of European
and Canadian Scientists had achieved Quantum
Teleportation achieved over record distances. Due to the fact that it is a
scientific journal, a subscription is required to publish their work on my
blog, one which I do not possess. Nonetheless, this has me exited on
some many levels it’s hard to contain my excitement, folks, so forgive me as I
gush a bit too much while cribbing CNET Editor Tim Hornyak’s article.
So
I’ll get straight to the point of why this development is so exciting. First
demonstrated as being more than a scientific curiosity in 1997, progress has been
slow in coming. The Chinese upped the distance to 60 miles based on another published
article in the Scientific Journal Nature Magazine. Again please link to the
original article “Scientists
teleport info 90 miles across islands”, published August 15,

News
So
what’s so significant about this discovery is that the distance has been upped
to 90 miles between La Palma and Tenerife, which acted as transmission and
receiver pads; a gain, folks of 30 miles and still achieving the same level of
synchronization.
Outstanding
collaboration European Scientist!
And
again I complain about our local newspapers missing out on reporting on the
significance of this discovery. Not surprising, as they did the same thing to the
announcement by Dr. Michael Taylor of the University of the West Indies,
Jamaica.
Dr.
Michael Taylor, Physics Lecturer and
Climatologist, spoke of the coming problem of the Energy Crunch in
Jamaica due to Global Warming in spite of a shift to Alternative Energy as
noted in my blog article entitled “Dr.
Taylor's states Global Warming increasing Jamaica's Energy Bill - Vybz Kartel's
Summertime Soylent Green”.
At
this point I’d like to suggest that someone develop a local scientific
newspaper, dedicate solely to reporting Scientific and Engineering Developments
in Jamaica.
But
back to the story…..
The
information being transmitted is the Quantum Mechanical state of a pair of
atoms, not the information itself, which means a tap of that Data is in itself
useless. Worse, like a Fiber Optic Cable, breaking the link to tap it changes
and alters the characteristics of the signal and thus the output at the far end.
Thus
giving away the fact that the line is tapped. This is the same basis of even
copper-based POTS (Plain Old Telephone System) Network Telephone tapping and
Technology used to detect Wire taps on a line and find bugs in a room; their
presence to observe conversations changes the Quantum Mechanical state of the
signal on a microscopic and macroscopic level. In essence, a practical
demonstration of the Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle, for those Chemistry and
Physics buffs reading my article.
Sorta
like when as a CSA (Customer Care Agent) or a TES (Technical Engagement
Specialist) in a Call Center you can tell if you line is tapped if you notice
the line sounds a bit “tinny” or you hear a slight echo in the line. The act of
tapping changes the characteristic of the transmission, in much the same way
water being diverted from a river changes the turbidity, water level and even
the amount of living organism in the water, thus alerting those downriver that
someone up river is diverting water.
The
only problem appears to be:
1. The
need for a High Speed Network to transport the Data rapidly between the two
receivers
2. The
need for a molecular standards for the atomic or molecule samples at the end
termination devices
3. The
need for Synchronization of the Quantum Mechanical States of the Atoms without the
manipulation of Electrical and magnetic fields
That
last one is the clincher; being as the speed of light is still 300,000km/s and
the Mechanical and Electrical conversion has to be done to convert the
transmitted Data into information to manipulate the Electrical and magnetic
fields at the receiver, there is some delay. And at the atomic level,
nanoseconds of delay means a loss of synchronization.
Thus
it’s not instantaneous communication, just more secure communication. To enable
true Quantum Teleportation, the Transmitting and Receiving End Equiptment would
have to be powered by Quantum Computers that manipulate Data in its original
form i.e. Light, instead of doing an Electrical conversion. Effectively an
Optical Switch and a FLORA (Fiberless Optical Receiver Array), which uses light
instead or EM (Electromagnetic) in the Microwave Frequency range!
So
what practical uses do the research breakthrough from this scientific
collaboration does this have that affect the price of rise and everyday living?
There are many, aside from purely Transporter related uses, Star Trek Style:
1.
Development of low cost super-secure
Telecoms is that super fast Telecoms Networks in the Petabit range. Imagine
being able to upload or download a CD or DVD in 5 seconds flat!
2.
Super Secure because just like a Fiber
Optic Network, any attempts to tap the line alters the Data being transmitted.
Everyone from the CIA (Central Intelligence Agency) to the RIAA (Recording
Industry Artiste Association) and the MPAA (Motion Picture Artiste
Association), who represent the Music and Movie Industry will love this, as
they both have information that they don’t want falling in the wrong hands.
3.
Quantum Storage media would have to be
developed that store Data using the manipulation of the Quantum Mechanical
State of Atoms. Imagine storing all the Data on the Planet Earth in a Thumb
Drive that fits in your pocket and can be rapidly accessed in mere seconds on a
Quantum Computer
4.
Actual Quantum Teleportation is very
much possible albeit it has ways to go to solving the principle of The First
Law of Thermodynamics being potentially broken by its development
5.
Development of a reliable AMG
(Anti-Matter Generator). This has significance for Space Travel and near-light
speed travel, as Anti-Matter based engines are almost 99% efficient in energy
conversion of Matter into Energy.
6.
Quantum Computers and Quantum Computing Networks
would now be practical and possible. This as Data can now be Networked
super-securely over great distances using satellites or even ground based using
a FLORA Networks enabling Super Fast computing available to ordinary people.
7.
Development of FLORA Networks,
effectively LOS (Line of Sight) Networks that use Optical Wavelengths to
transmit Data at near relativistic speeds of light using these faster Quantum
Computing based DSP (Digital Signal Processors) in the Node B’s and UE (User
Equiptment) of Customers.
8.
Time Travel would be possible. Using
Quantum Computers and advanced Algorithms, it is conceivable that much in the
same way Quantum Teleportation can transmit objects within our current Space
and Time Reference, then Quantum Teleportation to different times should be
possible.
The
next time we hear news about Quantum Teleportation, it may involve its use to
transport inanimate objects from one place to another, effectively a Fax
Machine for inanimate objects, not much different from a 3D Printer as
described in my blog article entitled “MakerBot
3D Replicator Printer debuts at CES 2012 - Evanessence Brings Star Trek to Life”.
Only
by then we would have had the following things in place necessary for
successful Quantum Teleportation as stated in my blog article entitled “Future
Ultra-Wideband enables Quantum Teleportation - THC, Salvia and Psilocybin Ben
10 Alien Force”:
1.
Vast amounts of Energy Cheaply available
on site beside the Quantum Teleportation Device in a small form factor i.e. the
size of a Portable Generator. Most likely from a Nuclear Fusion Reactor
2.
Telecom Providers with Wireless and Wired
Ultra-Wideband Networks FLORA Networks with speeds in the hundreds of Terabytes
at very low prices
3.
Transmitting End Pad and Receiving End
Pad technology standardized among different Telecom Providers
I
say Telecom Providers as such Technology may first wind up in the hands of the
US Military. After initial usage, it would then be used by Telecom Providers to
allow Corporate and Enterprise Customers as well as Residential customers to
send and receive packages, totally disrupting the Postal and Packaging Industry.
This
is much in the same way MakerBot’s 3D Thing-O-Matic Printer allow creative
minded artists to print 3D Models in ABS (Acrylonitrile butadiene styrene),
the plastic material that makes LEGO or PLA (Polylactide).
Soon
animate objects then people, traversing the boundaries of Space at the Speed of
Light. Telecom Providers in the future that own these Terrestrial and Satellite
based Laser powered FLORA Networks would make billions from setting up
so-called Subspace Relays between Planets to transport mined materials, people
and equiptment.
It's going to be end of mine day, except before ending I am reading this enormous piece of writing to improve my knowledge.
