LeVar Burton's Reading Rainbow hits US$1 million on Kickstarter - Star Trek Enterprise star Beams up on Internet Browsers Worldwide

Geordi La Forge, 1 Reading Rainbow Fan to Beam up!

This must have been the expressed sentiments of Team Reading Rainbow, led by Star Trek Actor LeVar Burton hit the Kickstarter Jackpot when they scored US$1 million in less than 24 hours as stated in “LEVAR BURTON KICKSTARTS READING RAINBOW WEB APP, RAISES $1 MILLION IN ONE DAY”, published May 28, 2014 by Mike Flacy, DigitalTrends and “LeVar Burton, "Reading Rainbow" Find pot of Gold Online”, published May 29, 2014 9:43 AM PDT by Eric Mack, CNET News.

For those of you who never watched PBS because you don’t have cable TV (like myself) or Saturday Television programming on Television Jamaica, Reading Rainbow was that program that taught many of us the joys of Reading. Back then, I was to watch the program in the 90’s I was a Glenmuir High School Student.

I loved the program to bits mainly because it featured the actor from Star Trek, as I always used to imagine he literally beamed down from the Enterprise unto the set! I’d set my VCR on Sabbaths just to record the program on Television Jamaica so that when I came home, I could watch the program that was hosted by this super-cool dude.

LeVar Burton on Kickstarter for Reading Rainbow – US$5 million Pot of gold possible in 5 days

Now this kickstarter campaign, dubbed Bring Reading Rainbow back for Every Child, Everywhere has managed to do in 24 hours what would seem a miracle, a possible explanation for LeVar Burton seeing his lifelong passion brought back to life.

At the current time of writing this article on Monday June 9th 2014 at1:30 pm, the Bring Reading Rainbow back for Every Child, Everywhere total has reached US$3,590,278 thanks to pledges from some 79,184 Backers with some 23 days left to go.
If they manage to hit the US$5 million mark, not only can they go global reaching some 7500 classrooms worldwide, but conceivably they may even come to Developing world countries too. Reading Rainbow on a weekend on Television Jamaica could be a strong possibility!

Aside from providing access to the Reading Rainbow content for 1500 Classrooms across the continental United States of America, the incentives are what make this kickstarter amazing. Everything from personally meeting the star himself to getting to take selfies with LeVar Burton and the gang!

OMG!

LeVar Burton and Reading Rainbow – Kickstarter Beams it up on the Internet

So what happened to make Reading Rainbow get cancelled in the first place? One phrase: PBS funding reallocated by the US Government.

After awhile the show stopped coming on air back in the early part of the 21st Century, around 2009 thereabouts. Maybe this Star Trek Enterprise got lost in space, I reasoned back then?
But alas, my silly notions were laid to rest when the Reading Rainbow Apple iPad App was launched in 2012 as stated in “LeVar Burton to reboot Reading Rainbow for the iPad”, published September 16, 2011 By Jeff Hughes, Digitaltrends.

That Reading Rainbow Apple iPad App brought most of the interactive reading programming back for the iPad toting clique to enjoy. But what about us, Reading Rainbow fanatics around the world? Where's out TV show that anyone can watch on any TV, worldwide?

Thus the Bring Reading Rainbow back for Every Child, Everywhere was born on Wednesday May 28th 2014 with the intent to make an Internet-based versions accessible on any Browser, possibly via YouTube as stated in “Recall 'Reading Rainbow'? Geordi La Forge wants to revive it”, published May 28, 2014 10:19 AM PDT by Anthony Domanico, CNET News.

And now we bear witness to history. These moments are the ones I love to blog about on Kickstarter projects. Now here’s hoping that in the next few days he’ll raise enough money to build the Star Trek Enterprise as the set for Reading Rainbow!

In the meantime, check out the Reading Rainbow Apple iPad App:
