How to configure the Wi-Fi on your Digicel 4G Broadband Modem

If you read my previous Geezam blog article entitled “How to setup and troubleshoot your Digicel 4G Broadband Modem” on configuring your 4G Broadband Modem, which is really WiMaX (Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access) which technically speaking, isn’t “4G”, then you must still be confused as hell.

Yes, you’re on the Internet….but so is everyone else in the community! Especially if you live in the Community of Milk River and happen to, without proper forethought, share your Wi-Fi Password with your BFF’s with those famous last words: “Yu can gwaan use it…jus’ don’t len’ it out to no’baddy”’

With friends like that who needs hackers? Well dear reader, if you’re reading this it’s time to lock them out. This handy how-to on changing your Wi-Fi Name and Password is designed so that not only can your friends not know it’s your Wi-Fi but they can’t log in.

Oh, this helpful tip is brought to you with the nutritious help of a pack of National Cream Crackers topped up with Tastee Cheese Spread and crested with a dollop of Eve Guava Jelly spread on top! Make sure you have some set up in a plate, as this troubleshooting to kick the unwanted loafers off your Digicel 4G Broadband Wi-Fi will take some Brainpower!

Digicel 4G Broadband Wi-Fi Name change – The Freeloaders won’t know what hit them

To change the Wi-Fi Name and Password, first you’ll have to gain access to your Digicel 4G Modem’s Configuration Page, which is the same no matter the model Digicel 4G Broadband Modem. Once connected via Wi-Fi to your modem, open any Browser, preferably Internet Explorer and enter the following URL (Universal Resource Locator):

http://192.168.100.1

A menu should pop up that looks a lot like shown below. Note that you can use Mozilla Firefox, but I prefer Internet Explorer as it’s default in Windows, making sense for Admin to use it instead of an unknown Third-party Browser!

The default Username and Login for all Digicel 4G Broadband Modems is as follows:

• Username: user
• Password: user

Now if you were the super-friendly type that loves to lend out your Modem and its Web Login for your Account that allows you to add on Credit, you may find that they will still have that Password floating around and be using it like a prostitute. You really gotta change that, man! This first Tab, Personalization, will allow you to do so.

Then select Apply and move on to the next important change to make; Wi-Fi Name and Password. For that, click on the Networking Tab and change the Use Default Label option via its Drop-Down Box from “Auto Default” to “User Defined”!

At this point, you can start making some changes to both your Wi-Fi Name that is seen by others, called your SSID and its Password. Click on Next and another Tabbed page will appear. On this page you can change your SSID and Password.

Select and highlight under Common Setting Label the text Box labeled SSID– that’s your SSID Name!  Once highlighted, you can change it to whatever name you want your Wi-Fi to be by typing it in using your keyboard!

Then under the Security Setting Label, select the Security Mode Drop-down Box and change it to “WPA2-PSK”. The screen will flip and select the Encryp Type Drop-down Box and change it to “TKIPAES”.

Then finally, click on the WPAPSK Text Box and change it to whatever Password you want it to become by typing it in using the keyboard. At this point click Apply and restart your Digicel 4G Modem, taking note of all the changes you’ve made thus far.

When you log on again, you’ll have a new Wi-Fi Name with a new unbreakable Password and a more secure Web Login for your Account. If your one of those Visual types that likes videos, this may be a little more your speed!

Thus you’ll have a new Password for your Web Login for your Account, a new Wi-Fi Name and a new Password. Best of all, you did it all with the power of a single pack of National Cream Crackers smothered in molten Tastee Cheese Spread and slathered with Eve Guava Jelly!
