There was a sound of revelry by night
And Belgium ’s capital had gather’d then
Her Beauty and her chivalry, and bright
The lamps shone o’er fair women and brave men

All is quiet on the home front, as today Wednesday June 22nd 2011AD, Jamaica awaits the official arrival of yet another official state visit from US Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton, Secretary of State as reported in the Jamaica Observer as stated in the article Hillary Clinton coming to Ja, published Friday, June 17, 2011, The Jamaica Observer and the Jamaica Gleaner as stated in the article “Hilary Clinton to visit Jamaica on Wednesday”, published Sunday 19 2011 at 10:19:08am, Go-Jamaica.
The official tweet for the visit as plastered across The US State Department’s Website, quote: “The secretary will reaffirm the US commitment to the region, and underscore our joint partnerships in enhancing citizen and regional security; promoting clean energy and combating climate change; promoting economic development; and strengthening democratic institutions”.
However we Jamaicans know the real deal. US Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton, Secretary of State is here to full her belly with more June Plum juice and possibly steal our secret recipe!
Probably even meet with Adidaja Palmer aka Vybz Kartel and the Gaza Empire, as after all, he is the reason why Clarks were selling last year in 2010AD thanks to his hit song and videos entitled “Vybz Kartel featuring Russian ‘Jeans and Fitted’” and his prior hit song “Vybz Kartel ft. Popcaan and Gaza Slim - Clarks”.
Vybz Kartel is also the REAL reason why PayLess Shoesource, is in Jamaica doing booming business selling brand name shoes as stated in my previous blog article entitled “JDX and PayLess - First Dove of a Coming Recovery” and noted in my Geezam Blog article entitled “JAMPRO, MonaGIS and the Interactive Investment Map – Consider.Evaluate.Act”.
Did I forget Blue Power Cake Soap! I am willing to bet that US Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton, Secretary of State will wish to meet with “The Teacher”!
Awoah! Bets anyone?
Hopefully this time, we can serve US Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton, Secretary of State some Sorrel and skip the Mango Juice as I had opined in my previous blog article entitled “Apple iPad vs Huawei MediaPad & HP TouchPad – Hackers say this is As Good as it Gets” when she touches down later today.
This in light of the ongoing research by the Northern Caribbean University into Sorrel (Hibiscus Sabdariffa) effect on cancers ranging from breast cancer to even oral cancers, or carcinomas as stated in the article “Sorrel Research Deepens”, published Friday April 29, 2011 by Richard Bryan, Gleaner Writer, The Jamaica Gleaner.
Another great quote from Dr Neal Johnson, assistant professor of Microbiology in the Oral Diagnosis, Radiology and Pathology department at Loma Linda University , their Californian sister Seventh Day Adventist University : “Sorrel (Hibiscus Sabdariffa) extract induces cell death in an Oral Squamous Carcinoma Cell line.”
Tele-working is a great way to work; all the comforts of home and able to make money at the same time as my Geezam Blog article entitled “Jamaica’s 100MBps Internet Silver Lining – Tele-commuting Workplace is coming” notes!
So a good Tablet will make me mobile. But which one?
In a previous blog article entitled “Asus Transformer vs Apple iPad 2 - X-Men First Class for Ludacris' Numba' One Spot” I stood up and took notice of the “sold out” nature of the Taiwanese Asus Transformer Tablet and its family of Tablets that are defining their own Tablet niche.
Coming with dockable Bluetooth Keyboards and running on every possible conceivable OS Platform, from Windows 8 to Google Android 3.1 aka Honeycomb and in as may size variants possible.
US$399 pricing with stellar specs and its detachable or dockable keyboard design, however, plain and simple explains its meteoric success where other Tablet makers stumble as stated in the article “ASUS Eee Pad Transformer arrives in the US, sells out almost immediately”, published April 26, 2011 by Adam Rosenberg, DigitalTrends.
So their extrapolated number of three hundred thousand (300,000) shipped units this month on June 2011AD as boasted by Asus CEO Jerry Shen in the article “Asus boasts it'll outship other Tablet makers, except iPad”, published JUNE 10, 2011 10:43 AM PDT by Erica Ogg, Circuit Breaker - CNET News is very impressive.
This when you throw in previous months of April and May 2011AD shipments figures of two hundred thousand (200,000) apiece! Thus the June 2011AD figures represent an increase of 50% over April and May 2011AD shipments figures!
Thus other players in the Tablet market have a bit of catching up to do as noted in the article “After Apple, Samsung, Acer vie for No. 2 Tablet spot”, published JUNE 21, 2011 8:47 PM PDT by Brooke Crothers, CNET News – Nanotech.
This as the Apple iPad’s only other major contender aside from the fast rising Asus Transformer and clan is a motley crue of “White” Label Tablets, courtesy of the Chinese manufacturers, who also gave us the Dual-SIM clones of Nokia Smartphones as my blog article entitled “Apple iPad vs “White Box” Tablet - Jason's Argonauts Home Improvement The Next Big Thing” jokingly notes!
So the real contenders for the No. 2 spot are really the Asus Transformer and the “White” Label Tablets made by the Chinese manufacturers, certain to spark a nascent repair and service industry, being as most of these Tablets are Android based and rootable!
And as predicted in my blog article entitled “Tablets and the Future of the PC - Jurassic Park and License to Kill” and my Geezam Blog article entitled “Are we Witnessing Laptop and PC Extinction?”, the PC is dying and may be the next casualty of the Apple iPad and its dockable compatriot, the Asus Transformer.
So says component analyst iSuppli, which tabulated a 0.3% dip in PC sales when the First Quarter of 2011 is compared to the First Quarter of 2010, representing roughly eighty one million the hundred thousand (81,300,000) PC’s as stated in the article “iPad taking some bite out of PC sales, says iSuppli”, published MAY 25, 2011 9:18 AM PDT by Lance Whitney, CNET News - Crave.
Again a decent table from iSuppli will suffice:
IHS iSuppli analyst Matthew Wilkins sums up what I am basically thinking with regards to the PC, in much fancier language, quote: “The increasing momentum of the media Tablet market, led by the iPad, is creating a difficult environment for the PC industry. All the attention surrounding Tablets contributed to weak consumer demand for PCs in the first quarter.”
However, the analyst admits there's still uncertainty over exactly how much of an impact Tablets are having on the PC market.
Being rather chatty, IHS iSuppli analyst Matthew Wilkins offers an explanation as to why the PC is not yet fully extinct ands I am hoping, quote: “IHS believes that the jury is still out on exactly how much Tablets are cannibalizing PC sales. However, the rising number of Tablet models on the market, along with certain high-profile product launches during the first quarter, caused confusion among consumers as to exactly how to view the Tablet platform relative to the PC platform. This contributed to the PC sales decline in the first quarter.”
This uncertainty would explain the observations recorded by CNET News Editor Brook Crothers as to why the Tablet adoption among non-Apple iPad contenders has been so slow as stated in his article “The iPad is the Tablet market, for now”, published JUNE 18, 2011 7:48 PM PDT by Brooke Crothers, CNET News – NanoTech.
Marketing certainly does goes a long way to explain the mis-steps in the sale of the Motorola Xoom as my blog article entitled Motorola Xoom vs the Apple iPad 2 - Elizabeth Taylor, All's Well that Ends Well” and my Geezam Blog article entitled “Motorola Xoom – 101 on How to Beat the Apple iPad”, which thus far saw lackluster sales!
This lack of co-operation among Marketing and Engineering Departments within Motorola is apparently the main problem that the other Tablet maker are facing as noted in the article “In a data driven world, marketing and IT must come together”, published June 8, 2011, 3:04pm PT by Cortney Fielding, GigaOM.
The other Tablet makers are used to a market that is driven mostly by Corporate and Enterprise sales and tech enthusiasts. Making user-friendly products that appeal to a mass market is apparently not up their street.
They lack the attention to detail ergonomics, aesthetics and slick Marketing that makes Apple’s products “magical”, being as they are used to just selling products to the Corporate and Enterprise World, which are usually staffed with their own in-house IT and Network Administrators to troubleshoot Compute problems.
Because of this expectation of a rapid tablet adoption, No. 1 PC maker Dell is looking to Far East rapidly growing Economies of the People’s Republic of China, India and Japan to sell their Tablets as stated in the article “Exclusive: Dell spurns U.S. in launch of Android Tablet in China”, published June 8, 2011 9:34 PM PDT by Brooke Crothers, CNET News – Nanotech.
Exactly as I had predicted, as PC makers, like Telecom Providers are inherently lazy.
They like quick turnarounds and rapid markets that require little in the way of Marketing. They expect their brand name recognition to make the product start flying off the shelves at whatever price they choose to sell their products.
Even when the products do not measure up to Apple’s!
He notes that
- Only Apple, HTC, and Lenovo are on track with sales
- Acer, Dell, Motorola, RIM, Toshiba, and Samsung are being hammered
Again, more quotable quotes from the J.P. Morgan analyst Mark Moskowitz, quote: “We do not think the first generation of Tablet offerings from the non-Apple Tablet hopefuls stand to offer compelling price and feature sets to drive incremental purchasers within vendors' projections”
So it’s settled then.
With the failures of the other well-known Tablet makers in the US Market, some with computer and Laptop making pedigree, some without, it is now so obvious as to why. It appears to be mainly due to a lack of:
- Clear Marketing and advertising
- Great specs
- Compelling Pricing
- Performance
- Usefulness
- US Economy
Tablets are the future, as they are set to displace even Television and Game Consoles as my Geezam Blog article entitled “The Apple iPad Effect: Post PC Era Accelerant in Nine Moves”.
Just not from the Americans and Canadian in the form of HP, Dell, Motorola and RIM anytime soon, as they are not ready to do the legwork required to design and retail the concept that is the Tablet.
This as Asus, HTC, Acer and the White “Box” Tablet makers, all based in the Far East are the ones REALLY in contention for the No. 2 spot in terms of Tablet sales both in their back yard as well as in the US of A.
They have the cheaper component pricing, which Apple has, thanks to component hoarding and closeness to the rapidly expanding Far East and Asian Markets as stated in my Geezam Blog article entitled “Apple iPhone and Google Android – Helms Deep Under Attack” and my blog article entitled “Apple and the Cloud Phone - Cheaper by the Dozen and Up in the Air”.
It’s early days yet, but it is now clear that there is Big Trouble in Little China (1986) brewing (no offence to the Taiwanese)!
