Mr. Philpott Martin is the DPP and Digicel Hacker - Jamaica Cybercrimes first Django Unchained makes it clear that Digicel's MINSAT and DWS are hackable

Mr. Philpott Martin, 38, just can’t seem to catch a break, as he’s been convicted of hacking again as sensationalized in the Jamaica Star article entitled “Accused hacker remanded”, published February 6, 2013, the Jamaica Star.

The OCID (Organized Crime Investigation Division) of the Jamaican Police raided his West Camp Close Apartments and discovered Hard-Drives with copies of files from the DPP (Director of Public Prosecution), most likely those related to him not getting bail in August 2012 as noted in “Man accused of hacking Digicel system denied bail”, published August 28th 2012, The Jamaica Star.

The now infamous hacker has been arrested and remanded for yet another hack as published in “Hacker said found with DPP files”, published Wednesday, February 06, 2013, The Jamaica Observer and “ Accused hacker charged”, published Wednesday February 6, 2013 8:59 am, The Jamaica Gleaner. The DPP Files in his possession are related to his denied Bail Hearing Extension according to my confidential Source close to the matter.

Looks like my source may be onto something. My Source had insisted that the arrest of a 30 year old yet-to-be-named hacker on Saturday 26^th January 2013 who had also hacked Telecom Provider Digicel’s MINSAT and DWS Databases as noted in “Digicel hacked”, published Saturday January 26, 2013, The Jamaica Gleaner and “ONE ARRESTED FOR DIGICEL HACKING”, published January 26 2013, The Jamaica Star was connected to Mr. Philpott Martin.

This as I’m noticing the interesting coincidence of the OCID raid of Mr. Philpott Martin West Camp Close Apartments on Friday 25^th January 2013, having moved from Oaklands Apartment Complex four (4) years ago and the arrest of this “new” person for hacking Telecom Provider Digicel yet again, as I find it hard to believe he’d really hack Telecom Provider Digicel yet again after doing it once before and getting caught.

Really Dude!?

As I’d speculated in my blog article entitled “Digicel's Voicemail Problems as their MINSAT and DWS Databases get hacked by Robin Hood - Upgrade Voicemail to Paid Advertising and Fiber Optic Backhaul as it's A good Day to Die Hard”, this new individual may be related to Mr. Philpott Martin.

Now with this news making the rounds in the Media, it appears that both the DPP Hack and the Second Digicel Hack appear to be perpetrated by the accused Mr. Philpott Martin, as slyly suggested by the Media quoting he Police as saying he’d been convicted of hacking Telecom Provider Digicel’s Network some time ago.

This time around he’s been charged with unauthorized access to computer programming data and unlawful possession of computer for the commission of an offence “Computer hacker breaks into DPP's files”, published Tue February 5, 2013 6:36 pm, RJR News.

Thus, Mr. Philpott Martin has, thanks to the Media, being charged under the new Cybercrime Law which interestingly came into effect one (1) year after his arrest as noted in “House approves Cybercrimes Bill”, published Wednesday, February 17, 2010 BY LYNFORD SIMPSON Observer writer, The Jamaica Observer. He’s been remanded by the Jamaican Police and is to appear in the Half-Way-Tree Court on Monday March 4^th 2013.

Again, for those with short memories the former UTECH (University of Technology) Computer Science Student who had hacked Telecom Provider Digicel’s MINSAT and DWS Databases and stolen Prepaid Credit to the tune of JA$10 million over a two (2) year period as noted in “Digicel hacked”, published Saturday January 26, 2013, The Jamaica Gleaner and “ONE ARRESTED FOR DIGICEL HACKING”, published January 26 2013, The Jamaica Star.

Since his arrest and charge back then in August 2009 for the crime as noted in “Accused cyber scammer allegedly rips off Digicel $10m in Call credit”, published Friday, August 28, 2009 BY PAUL HENRY Observer staff reporter, The Jamaica Observer, the Justice system has been trying to prevent him from getting bail, albeit he remains largely on House arrest, as technically he’s broken no Laws, as there were no CyberCrime Laws in place at the time.

The case against him was mainly circumstantial and some significant evidence tampering had taken place when the Jamaican Police had raided his premises. This as they’d allowing a Digicel employee to access his computer instead of carting it off and taking it to a certified lab for a more thorough Forensic analysis. Still, the RM (Resident Magistrate) denied him bail, making many speculate something amiss.

My suspicion had been back then and still is now, is that it was a cover-up for the Jamaican Police to gain access to Telecom Provider Digicel’s MINSAT and DWS Databases, which contains the names and call Records for almost every Jamaican on the very popular Telecom Network. This speculation combined with a source was distilled in my blog article entitled “Digicel's Voicemail Problems as their MINSAT and DWS Databases get hacked by Robin Hood - Upgrade Voicemail to Paid Advertising and Fiber Optic Backhaul as it's A good Day to Die Hard”.

Look as if fears about extradition for more serious Banking Crimes in Cayman Islands and the US of A may have made him desperate. So he decided to hack BOTH DPP (to get a low-down on what they had him and what they planned to do) and Telecom Provider Digicel’s MINSAT and DWS Databases (with evidence of overcharging customers, which Fullgram Employees know) Django Unchained (2012) Style!

Having done it before, it was a piece of cake for him. But his actions have made the situation worse, like throwing Gasoline on Fire, as his hacks could not have slowed the inevitable: extradition. With the recent spate of Hacks worldwide, its wise council for the Ministry of Science, Technology, Energy and Mining to have engaged a Cybercrime Legislation expert in the guise of ITU (International Telecommunications Union) vetted Professor Marco Gercke as noted in “Cybercrimes expert to assist Jamaica review laws”, published Friday  January 25, 2013, The Jamaica Gleaner.

Curious side note: now it’s public knowledge that Telecom Provider Digicel’s Network is hackable, which should be of concern to many Jamaicans, who need to demand answers from Digicel with regards to improving their cyber security. Interestingly too, I won’t be surprised if it happens again, this time while Mr. Philpott Martin is behind bars. Stay tuned as this story further unravels.
