Dropbox partners with Yahoo! Mail for Gigabyte File Sharing as CEO Marissa Mayer Google’s Yahoo

“This integration allows you to share and store files more easily, whether they are vacation photos or important documents like tax returns and research papers. And, because files can be stored in your Dropbox account online, it's easy to find the files you want even when you are away from your desktop”

Post on the Yahoo blog as reported in CNET on Tuesday April 2nd 2013

If you’re still a fan of Yahoo Mail, as are most callers to SHARP’s contact Center, you’ve have noticed that Yahoo Mail’s looking a lot more like Gmail. Now Yahoo Mail’s got Dropbox integration as stated in the article Dropbox drops in to help out with Yahoo Mail”, published April 2, 2013 9:57 AM PDT by Donna Tam, CNET News.

I am probably Dropbox’s biggest fan, as I used Dropbox extensively when I was at UWI (2005 to 2009) and even while working at CLARO (2008 to 2009) as mentioned in my Geezam blog article entitled “Why Amazon Cloud Drive, the DropBox Clone, is Legal

Blame it on the new CEO Marissa Mayer, a former Google in the capacity of Captain to help turn around the fortunes of Yahoo. Yahoo was my Search Engine of Choice back when I was at UTECH doing Engineering (1997 to 2000).

It was the secret weapon (plus sharing notes!) that allowed me to beat Engineering back then, thanks to then CAST-UTECH transition that resulted in Computers all over the Campus, including within engineering. Please note: back then Laptops were a rich kid’s toy on UTECH Campus, now in the sub-JA$25,000 for a decent machine anyone (including yours truly banging away on my little typing machine!) can afford even with the stipend I’m paid while working at ACCENT Marketing.

Straight off the bat I’m not a fan of Yahoo these last days as I’ve kicked them off my Mozilla Browser in favour of Search-friendly Google, even doing an article on how to make the change as noted in my Geezam blog article entitled “How to reset the default Search Engine in Mozilla Firefox”.

But I am STILL a big user of Yahoo Mail; it’s the email I used to sign up for my Facebook Account, now sporting Facebook Home, pretty close to my prediction of them making their own OS as I’d predicted in my Geezam blog article entitled “Facebook to introduce #Hashtags with emoticons, monetizing FB and making Open Graph Search Practical”.

I also use it as my personal email to send emails in much the same way I use my LIME number for business and my Digicel phone for Pleasure and catching girls. So these Google-esque upgrades, which y’all notice if you a true fan of Gmail and Yahoo Mail are non too shabby.

Now this latest news is the equivalent of having a dual-SIM phone and is useful for the same exact reasons as described in my Geezam blog article entitled “Trend towards Dual-SIM Smartphones developing in Jamaica as MNP Approaches”. You can now send attachments bigger than 25MB an email all in one go, akin to Google Drive as described by Kelroy’s Geezam blog article entitled “Google Drive launches – Another major player joins the Cloud Storage Wars”.

Dropbox was, is and will forever be my true fave Cloud Application, as it’s got some cool tricks as mentioned below.

Email to upload: Attachment Delight

Dropbox supports email attachments being automatically uploaded to Dropbox. Just sign up to Sendtodropbox.com for you special email account. Then whenever you send emails to that email account, it’s automatically uploaded to Dropbox.

Uploading download links: Beam me up Scotty

Uploading download links is also another cool little know feature using a service called URLdroplet.com. This service, upon registration, allows you to grab download links and upload them directly to your Dropbox account without having to download files to a hard-drive or a USB Drive. Very handy for downloading anything you can get a download link for.

Start Remote downloading of Torrents: Be a true Pirate of the Caribbean

You can have your torrents via UTorrent sent directly to your Dropbox account, making you a True Pirate of The Caribbean. Again very handy if you don’t have a USB or Thumb Drive close by!

It’s done as follows:

1.      Open uTorrent
2.      Go to Preferences then Directories.
3.      Select Checkbox “Automatically load torrents from”
4.      Select your Dropbox folder.

Note: For Mac OS X Select Checkbox “Start transfer after opening each torrent file”

Dropbox Folder as default Document Folder: Documents un-leashed

You can make your Dropbox folder your default Document Folder. Here’s the 411:

For Windows 7 or Vista:

1.      Right-click My Documents
2.      Select Properties then Location.
3.      Select Move and Browse to you Dropbox

Mac OS X:

1.      Open Terminal (search for it in Spotlight)
2.      Type cd Dropbox.
3.      Select Enter
4.      Type ln -s ~/Documents /Documents
5.      Select Enter

More reason to check your email instead of just mooching on the Social Networks all day. So try out the new Dropbox feature on Yahoo Mail today. While you at it, try out Skydrive and Google Drive as suggested by CNET News Writer Stephen Shankland in Google Drive, SkyDrive, Dropbox? Heck, use 'em all!”, published April 24, 2012 10:37 AM PDT by Stephen Shankland, CNET News

If you do, trust me, your life’ll be much easier as you live life on the cloud like a Beautiful Balloon, the 5th Dimension Style!
