Tech Predictions of 2013 - 3D Printing and smaller smartphones

2012 is now a fading memory and already the bright new gadgets dazzle the eye at the CES (Computer Electronics Show) in Las Vegas, Nevada. With such a start to the New Year, what lies ahead for Technology in the next twelve months?

3D Printing will mark a Revival of Printing

Already HP is feeling the noose tighten around their neck as the Apple iPod and the growing popularity of Mobile printing among Americans means a reduced desire to print as noted in my Geezam blog article entitled “How the Apple iPad killed Ultrabooks, Printing and the Mouse as the World Rediscovers Tablets”.

Thus it’s ironic that their Saviour may be the growing Open Source world of 3D Printing.

3D Printing’s found a world of applications. Everything from Iron Man movies as stated in the article “Why Hollywood loves 3D printing”, published April 14, 2012 4:00 AM PDT by Daniel Terdiman, CNET News in Hollywood to making replacement body parts for real people as stated in the article “3D Printer produces new jaw for woman”, published February 6, 2012 12:59 PM PST by Martin LaMonica, CNET News.

But its real application comes with the development of Quantum Teleportation as per my blog article entitled “Scientists demonstrate Quantum Teleportation over 90 miles on Canary Islands - Telecom Providers become Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy as FLORA Networks are feasable”.

This heralds the possibility of Teleporting real objects across Telecom Provider Networks. 5” Limit reached - Augmented Reality Glasses and Contact lenses shrink smartphones, Tablets and TV

My Geezam blog article entitled “AR Contact Lenses tested successfully on Rabbits” pointed to the development of Augmented reality Contact Lensesbased on the research of BabakPraviz of the University of Washington in Seattlein November 2011.

Now researchers at Ghent University Centre of Microsystems Technology in Belgium led by Professor Herbert De Smet have moved from 1 pixel in a White Rabbit’s eye to an entire letter. Again thanks to Flexible Polymer LCD (Liquid Crystal Display).

The long and short of this is that it’s next step is colour and support for moving frame rates high enough for shows and movies, news of which I expect in 2013. This is one for the long shot folks; 2015 before this is a wearable product, driven mainly by Sunglasses Industry and Transitional Lenses that will be mainstream.
