Blackberry has now
begun the slow painful process of breaking itself up into its more profitable
parts as I’d predicted in my Geezam
blog article entitled “Apple
iPhone boosts Jamaican smartphone usage as BB goes Chapter 11 Bankruptcy”. They’ve now recently announced that they’re
going to be releasing BBM (Blackberry
Messenger) over the Weekend as announced in my Geezam
blog article entitled “Free
Blackberry Messenger App coming to Android and iOS”.
In
case you doubt many blog article above, you can also scope out the same news at
the following websites:
1. “BlackBerry
confirms BBM on Android Saturday, iOS Sunday”, published September 18, 2013
11:49 AM PDT by Roger Cheng, CNET News
2. “BBM Launching on
Android, iOS This Weekend”, published September 18, 2013 04:05pm EST By
Angela Moscaritolo. PC Magazine
This
is a smashingly great development as now Android and Apple fans who defected
many moons aback can be reminded of why Blackberry still continues to enjoy the
support of so many of its fans. The Free app is being launched worldwide as
follows:
1. Android
Smartphone running Ice Cream Sandwich and Jelly Bean on Saturday September 21st
2013
2. Apple
iPhones running iOS 6 and iOS 7 on Sunday September 22nd 2013
The free BB App will be available at the
Apple App Store for Apple iPhones and the Google Play Store for Google Android
Devices as well as at the BBM Website!
BBM is
free – The Stats are stacked in their favour
To
be precise, BBM’s fan base among Blackberry
users is as follows:
1. 60
million monthly active users on BlackBerry alone
2. 10
billion BBM messages sent each day
3. 90
minutes per day using the BBM app
Here
are also some general usage stats on Blackberry Market:
1. Number
of apps available on BlackBerry World: 120,000
2. Number
of carrier approvals for Q10: 200
3. Number
of countries selling BlackBerry 10 devices: 14
4. Number
of BlackBerry Enterprise Service 10 servers installed globally: 12,000
Blackberry’s
Retail stats aren’t so bad either:
1. Number
of people who have watched BlackBerry's Keep Moving videos: 22 million
2. Number
of retail outlets selling BlackBerry 10 devices: 50,000
3. Number
of trained sales representatives: 50,000
4. Percentage
of BlackBerry users who are women: 56%
Thus
it should be quite a welcome party that may eventually grow to rival WhatsApp,
the current Top Dog in IM (Instant Messaging) as concluded in my blog
article entitled “CTIA
reports a 5% decline in US Texting as Instant Messaging ramps up - WhatsApp's
now Top Gun as The Dead Zone leads Star Trek Into the Darkness”.
Especially
here in Jamaica,
where many BBM Fans can finally share their
love for Blackberry with their smartphone friends as noted in the article “BBM
for Android and iPhone available this weekend”, published Wednesday,
September 18, 2013 3:13 PM, The
Jamaica Observer!
BBM
move creates the first Mobile Social Network –
Blackberry to Kill a Mocking Bird
After
all, smartphone running Google Android and the Apple iPhone are No. 1 and 2 in
the USA
in terms of Operating System based on recent stats from ComScore as stated in “Smartphone
market share consolidates at top, study shows”, published June 28, 2013
12:45 PM PDT by Joan E. Solsman, CNET News.
As can be seen, Apple still leads in the US of A as noted in the article “Apple
extends lead over Samsung in U.S. smartphones”, published May 3, 2013 1:12
PM PDT by Roger Cheng, CNET News.
Making
BBM a free App is also a very smart move, as
it’ll become the first true Mobile Social Network i.e. a Social Network based
on a service that was originally a Telecom Provider device specific Mobile
Service. By letting BBM go, Blackberry can
take advantage of the popularity of the Top 2 Smartphone Operating Systems,
that being Apple iOS and Google Android.
In
process they’ll introduce smartphone users used to WhatsApp, a more private,
more secure and more personal Social Network with PIN (Personal Identification
Number) which not only provides IM Services but also VoIP Calling Services over
Wi-Fi as explained in my blog
article entitled “RIM
introduce VoIP Calling over Wi-Fi for BB Messenger - Telecom Providers Trouble
with the Curve of Wi-Fi Calling”.
This
may eventually become VoIP Calling over 3G and 4G LTE Broadband Networks,
albeit highly unlikely, as Telecom Providers are not so keen on losing their
Voice Calling Revenue.
Blackberry’s survival in the
Future – Separate but United
States of Blackberry
Now
stepping forward into the future post Blackberry Z10, Q10 and Q5 launch as
chronicled in my blog
article entitled “RIM rebrands
as Blackberry and Launches Blackberry Z10 and Q10 - Alicia Keys' Global
Creative Director is a Girl on Fire for these Tallawah yet Beautiful Creatures” and “Blackberry
launched Budget Q5 at their Annual Blackberry Live Conference - Possible no
Contract US$199 makes Q5 the Agents of
S.H.I.E.L.D”.
Blackberry’s
not being doing so well despite their rebranding and finally launching smartphones. But they’ve not collapsed totally,
needing only to shed some excess fat to remain a viable going concern as noted
in “BlackBerry
will reportedly cut workforce by up to 40 percent”, published September 18,
2013 11:29 AM PDT by Roger Cheng, CNET News.
They also need to fully audit the company and segment it into sections that can
survive on their own!
They
also need to properly research the market and design a Tablet to go up against
the prevalence of White Label Tablets as well as the Asus Transformer and the
still dominant Apple iPad as I’d predicted in my blog
article entitled “Asus
Transformer & Asian Tablets vs Apple iPad - Vybz Kartel's Straight Jeans
& Fitted Big Trouble in Little China”.
Finally
they also need to take on the grand ambitions of Google and Apple and look into
using QNX OS, the Operating System behind the Blackberry Z10 smartphones and
expanding it into every product imaginable, from Automobiles, Video Game
Consoles, Refrigerators and other Home Appliances and Consumer Electronics
Devices.
When
you’re down, Blackberry, the sky’s the Limit once the right decisions are made!
