Telecom Provider
Digicel has finally outed a set of
official advertisements for their smartphone, the Digicel DL600 smartphones on
Friday October 18th 2013. The DL600 prices has now been reduced to
JA$8950 on Prepaid and JA$5900 with the Postpaid Data Plan, which maxes out at
3GB as stated in the article “Phones
View - Digicel DL600”, viewed Sunday October 20th 2013, Digicel Jamaica.
Telecom Provider
Digicel has begun to offer the
DL600 aka the Alcatel One Touch S’Pop under their latest Promotion which began
on Friday October 18th 2013 which you can read about at Digicel
Smartphone Data Promotion Frequently Asked Questions official *.pdf
document! To be precise:
This is the same
Digicel DL600 about which many are pining about to the point that I did a
Triplet of articles. First, the very first rumours that the DL600 was nothing
more than a Alcatel One Touch S’Pop smartphone running Google Android
Jellybean, then the latest version of the OS as stated in my blog article entitled
“Digicel
to launch the DL600 Smartphone by Mid-May 2013 starting below US$100 - Alcatel
One Touch running Firefox OS marketed like The Incredible Burt Wonderstone”.
I did a follow
up predicting the launch of this branded smartphone on Thursday 30th
or Friday 31st of May 2013 as stated in my blog article
entitled “Digicel
to launch the DL600 smartphone in Jamaica on Thursday 30th or Friday 31st of
May 2013 - Digicel DL600 is coming Fast and Furious 6 to make smartphones
accessible to all”.
And launch they
did in spectacular style on Thursday 30th May 2013 in what appeared
to be a soft launch to please their main partner, Blackberry, whose phone, the
Blackberry Q10 got top billing thanks to contractual arrangements as speculated
originally in my blog
article entitled “Digicel
has launched DL600 and Blackberry Q10 in Jamaica on Thursday 30th 2013 - The
Purge of Features phones in a gradual ramp-up towards Data Services and
smartphone in Jamaica”.
But why now all
of a sudden. Simple answer: The Dragons of House Targaryen are Dead!
Blackberry is dead – Digicel DL600 gambit for
Blackberry users running to LIME
Now that
Blackberry’s Dragons are all but dead as noted in my blog article
entitled “Blackberry
being rescued by former co-CEO Mike Lazaridis - Fairfax Financial Holdings
Limited is Fire and Blood as BBM goes free”, the Kings of the South, Telecom
Provider Digicel, can finally lay
claim to the Iron Throne.
No longer bound
to a contractual obligation to promote Blackberry smartphones which nobody
wants after their company went bust as stated in my Geezam blog entitled “Blackberry
sold to Fairfax Financial Holdings Limited as BBM goes free”, Digicel may be fearing a mass exodus of
droves of Blackberry smartphone users to competitor Telecom Provider LIME.
Hence the new
ads, a mere three (3) weeks and four (4) days after they went into perdition.
Take a look at the ads as I’m sure they’re news about the smartphone everyone
standing in line and putting themselves on a waiting list for months to get
their hands on.
But there’s more
to this story than what may initially meet the eye!
Digicel not taking chances – Lowering rates to
counteract LIME lower Data plans
Telecom Provider
Digicel isn’t taking any chances
of competitor Telecom Provider LIME taking advantages of this situation.
They’ve decided to launch their Digicel Postpaid Smart & Value Plans after
having launched Digicel DigiHome to capture the Landline market come May 2014
as stated in my blog
article entitled “Digicel
had launched Digicel Postpaid Smart & Value Plans yet doesn't advertise it
- How Postpaid Plans, the savior of Digicel should lead to 2-year Data and
Voice Plans”.
They’ve also
decided to reduce the cost of their “4G” (actually 3.5G!) Data Plans to JA$100
for 2 days, an offer markedly similar to that of Telecom Provider LIME’s Data
packages introduced on Friday August 9th 2013. That’s basically the
same price for a bag of Excelsior Cinnamon Water Crackers in Half-Way-Tree
Wholesale as show here!
This offer is some 2 months later but it’s as I’d prophesied in my blog article entitled “LIME Jamaica introduces 30-day Data Plans for JA$300 and a free Alcatel One Touch T'Pop - How the Butler started the Smartphone Data Revolution”. Apparently they’ve chopped their Prepaid 4G Price Plans in half!
And yes, there’s
an ad to explain it all yet again:
Digicel’s DL600 – Christmas is nice again for
Millennials
So it’s settle
then in your mind if you’re a teenager (ages 13-17) or a Millennial (ages 18 to
28). You just gotta have this phone as Friday October 18th 2013 was
the best day in the whole world. So most likely come Monday October 21st
2013, you’re gonna rush down to your nearest Digicel Store and scope out the
offers and the prices and put your name on the Waiting List for a Digicel
DL600.
The Apple iPhone
5S and 5C is coming to Jamaica in November 2013 as stated in my blog article
entitled “Apple
iPhone 5S and 5C Shortages in the US may indicate that it's coming to Jamaica -
How the Apple iPhone will be landing at LIME and ATL on Friday November 1st
2013”.
The Apple iPad 5
and its cousin the Apple iPad Mini 2 is also set to launch on Tuesday October
22nd 2013, official news now that the invitations are out as stated
in my blog
article entitled “Apple
sends out official Invitations for an Apple iPad themed event on Tuesday
October 22 2013 - Merry Christmas for making 2013 a Christmas Golden Year”.
Ours is the Fury as Digicel’s DL600 secures their Throne in this Game of Phones against Telecom Provider LIME! Check back with my blog or just follow Digicel Jamaica’s website or their Digicel Jamaica YouTube Page for details on when the next promotion is coming to a store near you!
