“I am happy to say that the Cabinet, this week, … has given drafting
instructions for the law to be amended immediately so that those of you who
were very happy to benefit from taxation-free Solar and LED bulbs, you will be
able to get that back right away”
Minister of Science, Technology
Energy and Mining Phillip Paulwell speaking at the launch of the Energy
Efficiency and Conservation Programme at The Jamaica Pegasus hotel in New
Kingston
Looks like Prepaid Power is a mere few months away as I’d speculated last
year when Minister of Science, Technology Energy and Mining Phillip Paulwell
had spoken of the removal of the CET (Common External Tariff) on the
importation of Alternative Energy and Energy-Saving Devices as reported in my blog article
entitled “Prepaid
Power coming in July 2013 - A Chip, a Pebble a Rock and a Block would make
Prepaid Power The Kings of Summer”.
I say this as the promise made by Minister of Science, Technology Energy
and Mining Phillip Paulwell as it relates to the removal of the CET (Common
External Tariff) on the importation of Alternative Energy and Energy-Saving
Devices has been temporarily suspended as stated in the article “Solar
devices, LED bulbs to see tax-free light”, Published Thursday February 27,
2014, The Jamaica Gleaner.
Minister Paulwell was speaking at the launch of the Energy Efficiency and
Conservation Programme at The Jamaica Pegasus hotel in New Kingston. The US$20
million Energy Efficiency and Conservation Programme is a joint initiative
funded by the Inter-American Development Bank to reduce electricity. Their
goals are pretty ambitious, as the GOJ (Government of Jamaica) is seeking
Electricity price reduction of between US$0.15 and US$0.18.
This includes the current build-out of the LNG Plant, which apparently is
going to be jointly executed by JPS Co (Jamaica Public Service Company) and EWI
(Energy World International) as explained in my blog article
entitled “JPS
Co and EWI forge deal to build 360-MW LNG Plant together - The Wolf of Wall
Street makes an American Hustle to Energise Jamaica's Energy Future”.
Part of the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Programme also includes
sensitizing Jamaicans as to the various Energy Saving Products and making them
affordable to the Public. To that effect, the CET has been removed on the
following items and their Tariff Codes as shown in the graphic below.
Prepaid Power realistically
Possible - Electricity Thieves can seek Repentance from JPS Co
Hopeful this includes JPS Co’s SolarMill that’s supplied to them by Windstream
Technologies as noted in my blog article
entitled “JPS
Co decided to market WindStream Technologies SolarMill, the all-in-one hybrid Solar
and Wind Generator - Winter is Coming for a Game of Thrones in Jamaica”.
This as cheaper Solar Panels and power Saving products would make Prepaid Power
realistically possible, as you could buy power when you need it, just like
Prepaid Credit from a Telecom Provider and use it at Night.
In the Daytime, you’d switch over to Solar Panels, Wind Turbines and your
Solar Water Heater and Air Conditioner. Such an arrangement would save you
hundreds of thousands of dollars on the installation of Backup Storage Batteries.
It would make switching to Solar Power a matter of your Prepaid Meter,
which would be a Digital Meter, merely shutting off at a designated time in the
Morning and your ATS (Automatic Transfer Switch) detecting the power loss and switching
to your Alternative Energy system when the morning comes!
Best of all, with Net Billing now an option since May 2012, you can also
make back some of that JPS Co Money via selling power that your system
generates to their Grid as explained in my blog article
entitled “Phillip
Paulwell makes Net Billing official with 11 licenses issued - JPS Co invited
via Mavado's Come Round a Mi Yard”.
Folks, Prepaid Power is around the corner for sure. Just as soon as JPS
Co finishes installing their Digital Meters islandwide as explained in my blog article
entitled “JPS
Co New Digital Meters are all Smart Meters - Winsome Callum's A Simple Twist of
Fate” and my Geezam blog article
entitled “JPS
Co Analog Meter upgrade heralds Remote Billing Revolution”.
At which points all that are sinners stealing Electricity from JPS Co can
seek Repentance (2014) by
going Solar!
