EWI Plant to have 2 LNG Plants - LNG Plant Banana Split between st. James and St. Thomas may mean LNG Fuel coming for Large companies and Auto LPG for JUTC to reduce fuel costs

“The plan now is to have two generating facilities - the larger one near Bull Bay, St Thomas, and the other at Bogue in St James. The idea is to have the power plants nearer to the demand for power and fuel”

Trusted Jamaica Gleaner Source commenting on the EWI LNG Plant Construction plans

I hope that this means that the LNG Plant will be built a lot quicker. This as EWI (Energy World International) has decided to split the construction of the LNG Power Plant into two (2) separate Power Plants on two sides of the island as explained in “EWI Said To Adjust LNG Project - Planning Separate Plants In MoBay And Bull Bay”, Published Wednesday March 12, 2014, The Jamaica Gleaner.

The idea is to build the plants closer to the demand for power, specifically:

1.      Bull Bay, St. Thomas
2.      Bogue, St. James

According to The Jamaica Gleaner source, the US$737-million pricetag will remain the same, but the re-crafted plans means that the OUR (Office of Utilities Regulation) need to re-approve the plans yet again.

More interestingly too, it also means that the JPS Co (Jamaica Public Service Company) who are looking to become partners in the LNG Plant as explained in my blog article entitled “JPS Co and EWI forge deal to build 360-MW LNG Plant together - The Wolf of Wall Street makes an American Hustle to Energise Jamaica's Energy Future” may also end up getting some low cost LNG for their Bogue, St. James Plant, allowing them to kill two birds with one stone.

Clearly, JPS co is still very much a part of the LNG Project as I’d predicted from the very start in my Geezam blog article entitled “JPS Co to build Jamaica’s first Gas Turbine Power Plant in St. Catherine”.

LNG Plant Banana Split – LPG Fuel coming for Large companies and the JUTC to reduce fuel costs

I’ve not much to comment on this, save to say it’ll be interesting to see how the LNG is to be supplied to the Plants. Both need approximately 350 million tonnes of Gas annually and at a sustained low cost. It may also mean shorter Gas Pipeline runs to companies that may also want to buy LNG via EWI for use in their own Power Plants, as EWI may become a large reseller of LPG Gas for fuelling Fleet Vehicles and Automobiles as is possible in my Geezam blog article entitled “Auto LPG as a Motor Vehicle Fuel”.

Ultimately, EWI may end up not only being s supplier of Electricity, but also of cheaper Fuel as well, with their largest customer possibly being the JUTC (Jamaica Urban Transit Company) as argued in my blog article entitled “Unruly High School Students Making out and having sex in the JUTC Half-Way-Tree Transport Center - How wi-Fi in Buses can lead to Solar Power, LPG and the SmarterCard Cashless System”.

Stay tuned for more details as EWI splits in two!
