They
have smartphones and Tablets with prices set to fall by Tuesday July 1st
2014 thanks to the GOJ (Government of Jamaica) removing the 20% CET (Common
External Tariff) on smartphones as I’d predicted in my blog article
entitled “Digicel
poised to sell 20,000 Mobile Devices in June 2014 - GOJ's CET removal means
JA$4000 to JA$6000 smartphones are Possible” and “Council
of Trade and Economic Development allows GOJ to remove CET on smartphones - How
CET removal from Phablets is the Perfect Storm for CET-Free Tablets by
Emancipation Day“.
There’s
also a current ongoing Pricing War being played out as it relates to their
Voice and Data Services as well. This is evident if you’re watching the World
Cup 2014 from Brazil on CVM TV or catching
the analysis on The Final Whistle on Television
Jamaica or if like me, you’re glued to your Social Media feed.
On
the Voice Services front, both Telecom Provider Digicel and Telecom Provider LIME are finally offering flat rate
calling as low as JA$2.99 to call any Fixed Line, Landline or overseas as
stated in my blog
article entitled “LIME
drops JA$2.99 Talk EZ to All Networks as Digicel promises something Bigger -
Telecom Providers can bring The Heat via lower Priced Smartphones to spur 3G
Data and Postpaid Plans”.
Check
out their current MVP Promotion and LIME
EZ Saves Money Promotions and you’ll get what I mean!
Telecom
Provider LIME has a sizzling hot
promotion ongoing with the Huawei Ascend Y330 being sold for JA$4999 as I’d
predicted in my blog
article entitled “LIME
JA$5000 plus GCT offer for the Huawei Ascend Y210 - LIME's Run and Jump for
Digicel Supa DigiDealz Sales should have used the Huawei Ascend Y300”.
Again scope out the video here
Will
be doing a review article on the Huawei Ascend Y330 soon! Telecom Provider LIME also has very competitive Data Plans
starting as low as JA$100 for 1 day 3G Mobile Internet access as described in
my blog article
entitled “LIME
Jamaica introduces 30-day Data Plans for JA$300 and a free Alcatel One Touch
T'Pop - How the Butler started the Smartphone Data Revolution”.
Telecom Provider
Digicel Responds – Focuses on 4G Mobile and Broadband as July 1st
looms
Telecom
Provider Digicel was initially
reluctant to offer this, despite their Six Shooter offers as explained in my blog article
entitled “Digicel
responds to LIME and introduces Six Plans with lowest rate of JA$2.49 on Friday
June 14 2013 - Digicel’s new Six Plan Rates wants Your Body, Christina Aguilera
Style”, which were really just geared at wooing away people from Gimme 5
Free Calling.
Telecom
Provider Digicel has responded
with a new slew of Data Ads, as they clearly are focused on pushing their 4G
Mobile and 4G Broadband Plans as shown on their Digicel Jamaica YouTube Page. Clearly they’re
gunning for that 25% increase in their revenue stream as concluded in my blog article entitled
“Digicel
to invest US$85 million in 4G LTE Network - 25% of Total revenue from ICT as 4G
LTE Investments designed to weather the coming Summer WhatsApp Storm”.
They
already have a JA$100 Data Plan for 4G Mobile Internet that lasts two (2) day
as part of their three (3) new Data
Plans as shown called Data Lite, Data Plus and Data Max as described in my blog article
entitled “Digicel
rebrands Data Plans as Data Lite, Data Plus and Data Max - Elain Stitch Shoot
Me as Prepaid 2G, 3G and 4G Data Services for Blackberry, smartphones and
Tablets made more complex”.
They
even have a new Promotion featuring Tessanne Chin with Tickets to Reggae
Sumfest as a reward just for choosing a Data Plan. Clearly they’ve got an
appetite for Data as explained in “Digicel
launches summer Sumfest campaign with Tess”, Published Friday June 20,
2014, The Jamaica Gleaner and “Digicel
launches big summer promotion today”, published Friday, June 20, 2014, The Jamaica Observer, an
announcement deserving of its own article, dear reader!
For
now, scope out the article below.
