“A
nationwide system could produce more clean renewable energy than a country uses
as a whole. They have many other features as well, including: heating elements
to stay snow/ice free, LEDs to make road lines and signage, and attached Cable
Corridor to store and treat stormwater and provide a 'home' for power and data
cables”
Scott Brusaw,
Electrical Engineer and designer of the Solar Roadways Project to harvest Solar
Power from idle unoccupied Roadways and Parking Lots
Sometimes
a Kickstarter only gets going on IndieGogo when it hits the Road……literally.
Scott
and Julie Brusaw, have been campaigning for the past eight (8) years to get
their idea of Solar Powered Roadways, aptly called Solar Roadways, off the
ground as stated in “Solar
road could change how we power the world”, published May 13, 2014 5:50 PM
PDT by Michelle Starr, CNET News.
Their
Campaigning has now hit a new high, with the Brushaw's hitting the high notes
with US$1 million from a funding round on IndieGogo from only 36,000 backers,
in the process setting a new Funding Record as stated in “Solar-roadway
backers set crowdfunding record”, published May 29, 2014 1:48 PM PDT by
Eric Mack, CNET News. The Pledge breakdown
gives an idea of the level of interest and power that 36,000 backers wield:
1.
11,000 pledged $10 or less
2.
6,000 pledged $50 or more
3.
7 pledged $10,000 each
Clearly
this project is going to be a Gamechanger for the Power Industry and Road and
Highway Maintenance in the US of A. It may also have similar implications for
the Developing World Countries should the husband and wife team of Scott and
Julie Brusaw decide to go Global with this!
Solar Roadways –
Powering Roadways and Homes one Hexagonal Transparent Tempered Glass Parking
Lot at a Time
No
wonder it got so much support. The concept and potential of Solar Roadways is
mind-blowing.
This
Solar Power, once converted to Electricity, can be used to power nearby
buildings and ultimately the National Grid. Made of pre-stressed Transparent
Tempered Glass that has the tensile Strength of Concrete, the Solar Panels are
embedded inside the hexagonal segments of Transparent Tempered Glass that are
laid in an interlocking fashion on the roadway, making it possible for any
landscape to harvest the Sun's energy.
Aside
from Solar Panels, it also has a built in Heating Element to melt Snow and a
grid of Wireless LED (Light Emitting Diode) that can be programmed to display
messages relevant to motorists or even create illuminated Walkways at
night-time. The Transparent Tempered Glass is designed to be non-reflective to
prevent it from blinding drivers due to reflected sunlight.
That
Electrical Energy can be used for many things associated with Homes and Roadway
Maintenance:
1.
Melting Snow
2.
Display Messages for Motorists
3.
Lighting up the Roadways at night for
Pedestrians and Bicycle Riders
But
it is its potential to power the entire Nation that has me personally excited.
If Solar Roadways were
to cover all the Roadways in Jamaica for example, it could be used to power not
just Road signs but also Houses in communities that would be connected and
powered by the very Parking lot or even Tiles in their home Garden.
The Brusaws – Record
36,000 IndieGogo backers want the US of A to go Solar Roadways
Mr.
Scott Brusaw is an electrical Engineer and over that period of time his very
ambitious idea has received numerous accolades due to its main promise:
replacement of all Fossil Fuel Based forms of Energy by utilizing empty parking
lots and Roadways as a source of Low cost economy-of-scale Solar Power.
Mr.
Scott Brusaw has spoken on invitation at TEDx, NASA, and Google's Solve for X. But
more seriously, he's received several rounds of funding for the following
organizations:
1.
GE (General Electric)
2.
World Technology Award
3.
Google
4.
IEEE Ace Awards
5.
US Federal Highway Administration
If
the 24 hour monitoring and testing by the US FHA is successful, then Phase 2
might involve Solar Roadways
being used on sidewalks, driveways, and parking lots with solar highways being
the next Big Stop on Solar
Roadways ambitious plans to tower the entire United States of America using
Solar Power.
Conceivably,
these Tiles could also be designed to cover patios and lawns in houses, making
it possible for US Homeowners to not only power their Houses but also recharge
their All-Electric Vehicles or produce Hydrogen from Sunlight using the power
these Solar Roadways
Tiles generate.
Making
them smaller into Roof-tiles would mean Solar Roadways would not
only be a concept for using Solar power from idle Real-estate, but houses could
also go off gird by being covered from roof to floor in Solar Panels that can
not only generate all the electricity the house needs but also keep it warm as
well. Not to mention a great way to have Christmas lights built into your home!
Not
only can Developed World countries like the US of A benefit, but so too can
Developing World countries in Tropical and Equatorial when the Sun shines
continuously. Countries such as Jamaica could benefit in the same was as
documented above as well as being an alternative solution to the 381 MW Power
Plant to power the Entire country and solving our Nationwide Power Problem as
described in my blog article
entitled “Dr.
Vincent Lawrence to oversee the 381 MW LNG Project - All powerful Essene
Brotherhood to Resurrect PNP General Election 2016 Win like Osiris”!
Especially
if the Solar Roadways
Technology could be made into roof tiles to cover households and thus power the
home directly via a mini-Inverter to convert DC to AC power suitable enough to
power the House. Battery power could be stored underground in a Water-Proof
Vault, making it possible for Jamaicans with some considerable financial investment
to get off the Grid and be Solar Powered!
Can’t
wait to see where Scott and Julie Brusaw take their Solar Roadways Technology
now that they have the backing of 36,000 Indiegogo supporters to the tune of
over US$1 million and now the US FHA is testing it out in their own Backyard. Solar Roadways may be the
future of Electricity Generation in the US of A as it has the potential to take
the entire country off the Grid!
