@SplashTop’s Mirroring360 and Squirrel’s Reflector lets you mirror your Apple iPhone, iPad or iPod Nano to your Desktop or Laptop

If you’ve read my Geezam blog article entitled “Google Chrome Remote Desktop lets you control your Computer from Google Chrome for Android App”, you’d realize that using Google Chrome, it’s possible to mirror your Android smartphone to your Laptop and remotely control it.

But what of Apple iPhones?

I’ve done articles on unlocking the Apple iPhone, Apple iPad and the Apple iPod Touch as described in my blog article entitled “How to Unlock your Apple iPhone - Backup, Erase and Restore with The Bag Man being iOS Setup Assistant”. But I’ve yet to find any software to mirror you Apple iPhone or any Apple device to a non-Apple product such as a Windows Desktop or Laptop.

Currently, you can only mirror the Apple iPhone or any other Apple device by using the Wi-Fi powered AirPlay and that’s mainly to your Television e.g. US$99Apple iTV connected you your Flat screen. But what of mirroring to any device sans the US$99 spend?

Fortunately for you, I’ve been searching for this very thing for quite awhile and I’ve found some solutions…..the only problem is that you’ll have to buy them, my dear Jamaican reader! But hey, if you’ve already shelled out JA$52,000 plus on your Apple product, what’s another US$25 to spend?

Introducing SplashTop’s Mirroring360 and the Squirrel’s Reflector as described in “Mirror your iPhone or iPad to your PC”, published June 30, 2014 1:43 PM PDT by Rick Broida, CNET News. These software install in a manner similar to the Google Chrome Remote Desktop with an App for your Apple iPhone, Apple iPad or Apple iPod Touch. Once you have Wi-Fi functioning on your Router and your computer is connected to the same Wi-Fi Router, with or without Internet access, you can mirror your Apple iPhone Screen unto you Computer.

The instructions are simple:

1.      Install SplashTop’s Mirroring360 or Squirrel’s Reflector client
2.      Create the Mirroring360 or Reflector Account
3.      Sign into you Mirroring360 or Reflector Account
4.      Grab your Apple iPhone
5.      Go to Settings
6.      Select AirPlay
7.      Choose your PC from the list of available devices
8.      Toggle on Mirroring

Once installed and launched, whatever you do on your Apple device will appear on the Desktop or Laptop Screen. However, there are a few caveats.

Unlike Google Chrome Remote Desktop, you can’t control your Apple device from your Desktop or Laptop. Also, both SplashTop’s Mirroring360 and the Squirrel’s Reflector aren’t fully road-tested yet and appear to be beta versions, as there exists a lag between the actions on the Apple iPhone and the display on the Desktop or Laptop. In fact, this lag affects any form of content rendering, making Video and Audio unplayable.

Given these teething problems, you’d think that this solution would be free. These solutions aren’t free, with SplashTop’s Mirroring360 selling for US$11.99 and Squirrel’s Reflector selling for US$12.99, a total spend of US$25.00. Still a good deal, just makes sure you have your Scotia VISA Debit Card or CIBC VISA Debit Card ready to purchase the Software plugin and the associated App on Apple iTunes!

Still it’s a great start, considering that no other cost-effective solutions exist. Here’s the link to these software for you to also enjoy the perks of seeing your Apple device on your Laptop or Desktop.
