10 Cases of Chikungunya Virus in Jamaica – How a Hurricane coming December 2014 will accelerate its spread

“These two cases include a previously suspected one on the campus of the University of the West Indies. The affected parishes remain St Thomas, St Catherine, St Ann and Kingston and St Andrew. We want to stress that personal responsibility is important to reduce the spread of Chikungunya and urge persons to place major emphasis on finding and destroying mosquito breeding sites”

Director, Emergency, Disaster Management and Special Services, Dr Marion Bullock DuCasse commenting on the latest Chikungunya Virus cases

Boy, do I have a problem keeping up with this Chikungunya Virus!

Looks like the suspected case at UWI (University of the West Indies) is a genuine case of a Local Transmission despite my speculation in my blog article entitled “UWI reports Staffer with Chikungunya Virus - Ground Zero for Islandwide Infection as it'll spread wild once Small Island Students Return”. This individual did indeed travel abroad but apparently didn’t get the Chikungunya Virus abroad. Rather they caught it via local Transmission.

This as of Friday August 15th 2014, the number of cases has reached ten (10) in total as proclaimed in the article “Chikungunya cases in Jamaica now at 10”, published Friday, August 15, 2014 8:14 PM, The Jamaica Observer.

This disease is spreading fairly briskly as it was on Thursday August 14th 2014 that we had eight (8) persons as noted in the article “Chikungunya cases reach eight”, published Thursday, August 14, 2014, The Jamaica Observer.

It’s now in the following parishes:

1.      Kingston and St. Andrew
2.      St. Thomas
3.      St. Catherine
4.      St. Ann

I’m feeling lucky; it hasn’t reached Clarendon…..yet!

10 Cases of Chikungunya Virus in Jamaica – Hurricane in December may accelerate its spread

Ok, so including the Post Graduate UWI Staffer and another person, that bring ups the total to 10!

That’s 8 Local 2 imported for those of you keeping score. With that person, the Post Graduate UWI Staffer as I call her now CONFIRMED to be a genuine case of Local Transmission; it suggests that one of the imported cases must be from UWI.

Possibly the Trinidadian girl as my sources have so reliably informed me I’m sure was the second imported case of the Chikungunya Virus! This as the Chikungunya Virus has now claimed 80 infected in Trinidad and Tobago as of Friday August 15th 2014, according to Trinidad Health Minister Dr Fuad Khan as stated in the article “As many as 80 infected with Chikungunya -- TT health minister”, published Friday, August 15, 2014 7:32 AM, The Jamaica Observer.

Thus my blog article’s assumption about the Post Graduate UWI Staffer being a case of imported wasn’t correct, due to my assumption that the mis-communication between Ministry of Health, Dr Marion Bullock DuCasse and Clinical Director of Health Services at the UWI, Dr Blossom Anglin-Brown suggested they were hiding intel.

This now suggests, as I’d expected, that UWI is going to become Ground Zero for a mass infection with the Chikungunya Virus by the Aedes Aegypti Mosquito acting as it’s vector. More Caribbean students, like the Trinidadian girl in my article will be coming to Jamaica with the Chikungunya Virus in their blood, creating more local Transmission.

At that point, local and imported transmission will be indistinguishable, as with the wet conditions predicted to be coming by December 2014 in my blog article entitled “ESA's Swarm Says the Earth's Magnetic Field is Weakening - How Weakening Magnetic Field results in hotter Summer Days and Hurricanes in Christmas 2014”, the Aedes Aegypti Mosquito will multiply unchecked.
