How to install Blackberry Messenger on your Desktop or Laptop

Many of you follow my blog probably remember the BlueStacks App Player, the software program that you can install on your Laptop or Desktop computer and play Android Games as explained in my blog article entitled “How to use the BlueStacks App Player to play Android Apps on PC or Laptop - Bluestacks App Player is The Great Gatsby for Android”.

Then came the Andy which allows you to do the same thing on your Laptop or PC as described in my blog article entitled “How to use the Andy App Player to play Android Apps on PC or Laptop - Android and Windows Live-OS swappable Project looks more possible”.

But what about BBM (Blackberry Messenger)? It’s been out and about on Apple iOS and Google Android since September 2013 as I’d reported in my blog article entitled “Blackberry launched free BBM App for Apple iPhone and Android smartphones - First true Mobile Social Network is Bob Marley Could You Be loved against WhatsApp”.

Now Windows Phone OS users now have the ability to download and utilize BBM for Windows Phone since July 2014 as stated in my blog article entitled “Blackberry Messenger on Windows Phone OS – Goes well with Blackberry 10.3 OS and Passport”.

So what about Desktop and Laptop users running Windows 7 or 8? Can they partake in BBM as well, especially if they’re like me and like BBM but don’t want a smartphone as I’ve opined in my blog article entitled “The Reason why I don't like Smartphones - Location Privacy and How to disable Location Services on Android and iOS”.

How to install BBM on your Desktop or Laptop – Bluestacks is ok but Andy to the Rescue

But one thing I completely overlooked was the use of BBM (Blackberry Messenger) on your Laptop or Desktop Computer. Granted, LOGICALLY, anyone would’ve realized that, as ever since Blackberry released BBM for Apple iOS and Android, people should have tried this out with the BlueStacks App Player.

After all, I’d even given instructions for how to run WhatsApp on your Desktop or Laptop computer using the BlueStacks App Player as described in my Geezam blog article entitled “How to use WhatsApp on your Computer”, which runs better by the way with Andy. An instructions already exists for BBM on the BlueStacks App Player since September 2013 as explained in the article “How to Install BBM on PC/Mac in 4 Easy Steps [GUIDE]”, published November 11, 2013 11:07 BST By Sarmistha Acharya, iBtimes.

So it logically stands to reason that with the recent resurgence of Blackberry in India and the coming of the Blackberry Passport by September 2014 as prophesied in my blog article entitled “Blackberry blogs positive reviews of Passport as Z3 sells out in India - Blackberry Passport may be their ticket on the Indian Express”, it stands to reason I should now do a DIY (Do It Yourself) for BBM on Andy, which is applicable to the BlueStacks App Player.

The steps are simple:

2.      Go to the Google Play Store
3.      Download BBM 2.0 on Google Play Store
4.      Install BBM 2.0 on Google Play Store on your computer
5.      Click on the Open button to launch BBM after it is installed
6.      Set up BBM 2.0 with a BlackBerry ID. As you're emulating an Android environment, that BlackBerry ID is basically an email address
7.      Run through the initial setup
8.      Use BBM 2.0 as it should now be installed on the PC.

Good to note here if you already have BBM on your smartphone, you'll have to use a different email address as your Blackberry ID, otherwise you'll have to switch between devices each time you use BBM. You can also send BBM Messages to regular users of BBM using their PIN (if on a Blackberry) or email (if on an Apple iPhone or Google Android smartphone).

Best of all, no smartphone required!
