Even
as the Japanese Government is gung-ho about Hydrogen Vehicles using PEM (Proton
Exchange Membrane) as explained in my blog article
entitled “PEM
Fuel Cell Technology gets Japanese Government support - Hydrogen Gas Stations
Coming in First World and Developing World Countries”, All-Electric
Vehicles STILL march forward.
Vehicle
Sales analyst InsideEVS has put out some
interesting stats that indicate that despite the Range-anxiety concerns of many
first-time buyers of All-Electric Vehicles, the sparks are still flying slow
and steady. This as All-Electric Vehicles are growing at a rate of 33% annual
growth as detailed in the article “First
Six Months of 2014 U.S. EV Sales Show 33% Year-Over-Year Gain”, published
7/21/2014 @ 1:29PM, by Peter Kelly-Detwiler, Forbes
Magazine.
Based
on the numbers listed on InsideEVS Monthly
Plug in Sales Scorecard, the popular All-Electric Vehicle listed by Second
Quarter of 2014 Sales Estimates are as follows:
1. 12,700
Nissan Leaf
2. 9,300
Toyota Prius
3. 8,600
Chevy Volt
4. 7,400
Tesla Model S
Clearly
the Nissan Leaf is now the most popular model.
During
this period the Nissan Leaf beat the Chevy Volt while the current sales figures
for the Tesla Model S are actually a decline when compared with Second Quarter
of 2013 Sales Estimates. Guess that GigaFactory that Panasonic and Tesla Motors
are planning to build may be put on hold as reported in the article “Tesla
and Panasonic said to reach agreement on Gigafactory”, published July 28,
2014 4:41 PM PDT by Brooke Crothers, CNET News
Says
something about Japanese Vehicle Engineering!
Despite
the Nissan Leaf diminutive size, it perks that include a customizable Vehicle
Sound and a solar powered Sunroof that can run the car's Entertainment system
and the A/C makes this a value buy as I'd concluded in my blog article entitled
“Nissan
Debuts the 2013 Nissan Leaf - 228 km range good for commute to The House at the
End of the Street”.
All-Electric Vehicles
Growing Strong - 500,000 by 2020 is a potential Robotic Self-Driving Army
Overall
the sales figures are even more promising for All-Electric Vehicles in the
First Half of the Year. 54,000 vehicles were sold, compared to 41,000. The InsideEVS also showed an interesting trend;
60% of sales occurred during the last six months of each year, particularly
2013.
This
trend is expected to continue this year in 2014. Interestingly too, the pace of
sales hit 24,000 in the May to June period in 2014, a 50% increase over the
16,000 sold in the same period in 2013.
Sales
of close to the 500,000 by 2020 are possible if the rate of growth remains at
33%. Hopefully, Americans will be still interested in All-Electric Vehicles by
the time Hydrogen powered PEM Vehicles hit the US Market.
Most
likely they will, especially as there's the possibility that their All-Electric
Vehicles can be upgraded to Self-Driving All-Electric Vehicles using an ADAS
(Advanced Driver Assistance Systems) Kit.
A
good example is San Francisco, California-based company Cruise Automation Inc
Kit, the Cruise RP-1 as described in my blog article
entitled “Cruise
Automation Inc’s Cruise RP-1 - How Adopting ADAS in Jamaica's Road Traffic Act
can reduce Road Fatalites due to 90% of Human Error”.
So
the future is STILL All-Electric Vehicles according to InsideEVS, range anxiety issues aside. The
Recharging Station issues need to be addressed; albeit Solar Recharging and
at-home Induction Charging makes this largely a non-issue that comes down to
how forgetful you are as it relates to recharging your All-Electric Vehicle
regularly.
