The
summer of 2014 saw price drops in smartphones, particularly Telecom Provider LIME's Huawei Ascend Y330, which initially
dropped to JA$4999 to the current low price of JA$3999 as stated in my blog article entitled
“JA$3999
Huawei Ascend Y330 vs JA$7599 Digicel DL700 this Summer of 2014 - Waggonists
Transfer Form not Required to get new smartphone”.
Digicel's
flagship DL700 aka the DL700 aka Alcatel One Touch Pop C3 remained largely
unchanged in price at JA$75999 even when Telecom Provider LIME first dropped their prices in July
2014 as stated in my blog article
entitled “JA$4999
Huawei Ascend Y330 vs JA$7599 Digicel DL700 Game of Phones - Tablets to drop on
Emancipation and Independence Day in a Game of Phones”.
There
was a sale at one point for the DL600, but that smartphone has an overheating
issue, a topic I'll tackle in another blog article at a later date. Right now
the main value-brand contender is Telecom Provider Digicel's DL700 and Telecom Provider LIME's Huawei Ascend Y330, which are the
same when compared specs-for-specs as noted in my blog article
entitled “Comparing
the Huawei Ascend Y330 vs DL700 aka Alcatel One Touch Pop C3 – Heralds for
another Budget Smartphone, the DL800”.
The
Data Plans remained largely unchanged, with Telecom Provider LIME's Data plans being the simplest and
providing more value as stated in my blog article
entitled “Digicel's
JA$70 Data Plans vs LIME's JA$50 Data Plans - How to choose 3-Day and 30-Day
Data Plans in Jamaica”.
However,
that has not stopped Digicel from
Stepping on the Advertising and Marketing Pedal with a new slew of Ads that have
popped up on Traditional Media and Social Media. Let the YouTube Ad Wars begin!
Digicel's Operation:
Bigger Better Value - LIME Value Comparison as Yendi Phillipps does Somersaults
The
first ads, titled Digicel's
Operation: Bigger Better Value appeared on Digicel Jamaica YouTube Page on Friday August 22nd
2014 as shown below:
Not
a very good Ad, as basically played upon Jamaican's lee for Nationwide News
90FM Media Personality Miss Kitty and Mr. DG and his earlier series of Agent
Videos where he extolled the virtues of Digicel's
various offerings.
But
by Sunday August 31st 2014, LIME’s YouTube Page had
responded with a simple ad featuring Ity and Fancy Cat lauding the fact plain
as to which company offered the better value a shown below.
However,
Telecom Provider Digicel on
Wednesday September 17th 2014, apparently drawing for more star power, drafted
in Agent Yendi Phillips as a Motorcycle riding, somersault flipping Agent that
apparently sports an early prototype of the Samsung Galaxy Glass as shown below.
And
of course here's my initial reaction on Twitter, which was one mainly of
surprise, as it appears that Telecom Provider Digicel is either very desperate or
going all-out! Christmas 2014 may be a very competitive one, what with Digicel's Rising Stars coming to an
expected climax with the crowd apparently rooting for the youngest female
singer as the new Rising Star.

So
again I ask the question: Who will win the War for the Iron Throne come
Christmas in this Game of Phones? Will it be the Telecom Provider Digicel’s DL700 aka Alcatel
One Touch Pop C3 or the Telecom Provider LIME’s
JA$4999 Huawei Ascend Y330? Or will Digicel
roll out a new Budget smartphone to compete, possibly a version of their
Branded smartphone, the DL800?
