Integrated Energy Solutions and Digi-RTU – How Digi-RTU makes Central Air Conditioning Inverter Efficient

“The Digi-RTU is a game-changing retrofit technology that will allow companies to add features to their standard air conditioners that are usually only available on very large, expensive, high-tech air conditioning systems”

Chief technical officer of Integrated Energy Solutions, Andrew Saunders commenting on their introduction of Digi-RTU as the exclusive distributors in the Caribbean and Latin America

Inverter Air conditioning Technology is far more energy efficient than constant-volume air conditioners. They are even more efficient if they are not on the grid and are solar powered as explained in my blog article entitled “JPS Co to introduce Prepaid Power and other Services by 2013 - Twilight Saga Breaking Dawn 2 Signals Coming Competition from Alternative Energy”.

But most corporate Building in Jamaica were built with older Central Air-Conditioning Systems from the 60's, with many slowly converting to Inverter Technology due to the high cost of the Technology.

A new Technology on the market may change that though, making it possible to retrofit current Central Air-Conditioning Systems to work as Inverter Type Air Conditioners without having to completely replace them, a very costly and inconvenient venture.

That new Technology is called Digi-RTU and it converts constant-volume Central Air-Conditioning Systems into variable-output, inverter-type systems as stated in the article “Companies To Reduce Energy”, Published Friday March 13, 2015, The Jamaica Gleaner.

Once installed, most buildings can achieve savings on their utility bill as high as 70% because it’s the same technology used in high-efficiency inverter mini-split air conditioners, only scale up to the size of a large building.

The result?

Digi-RTU improves on the energy efficient operation of the Central Air-Conditioning Systems by constantly monitoring the building's temperature and changing the compressors and condenser fans speeds. This results in the Central Air-Conditioning Systems output perfectly matching demand through output cycle.

To quote Chief technical officer of Integrated Energy Solutions, Andrew Saunders, whose company are the sole distributors of Digi-RTU in the Caribbean: “The Digi-RTU has an integrated soft-start function that reduces wear and tear on the compressors and fans, as well as an optional diagnostic function that monitors the performance of the air conditioner and sends out alerts when things are going wrong. These features help to reduce maintenance costs and down time, as well as extend equipment life”.

The occupants of the building will feel the results; consistent temperature and humidity and thus improved user comfort in these large, older corporate and Government buildings.
