@Motorola Xoom updated to Android Kitkat by @xdadevelopers – Happy Birthday to the Xoom and Tablet face demise in 2015

Google and Motorola may have forgotten about the Motorola Xoom Tablet, which was launched in Thursday February 10th 2011 as detailed on my blog article entitled “Motorola Xoom and Honeycomb - Tablet Evolution in Stormy Weather”, but the XDA Developers haven't.

With its 3rd anniversary having long past in February 2015 or coming up, depending on which dates you’re working with, XDA Developers have been busy releasing updates for this rather dated piece of Tablet hardware as noted in the article “Motorola XOOM gets unofficial Android 4.4 update (near its 3rd birthday)”, published 01/02/2014 at 4:45 PM by Brad Linder, Lilliputian.

The Motorola Xoom, which currently can be purchased on Amazon for US$379, first made its debut back at CES (Computer Electronics show) 2011 as detailed in Kelroy's Geezam blog article entitled “Motorola Xoom tablet poised to shine”.

Motorola Xoom Tablet – Apple contender that failed due to pricing and a lack of Google Android Apps

Back then we had high hopes for the Tablet as it prepared to go head-to-head with the Apple iPad, which had just launched in earlier in 2010.

It had a 10" 1280 x 800 pixel display and was powered by a Dual-Core NVIDIA Tegra 2 Processor, which preceded the Nvidia Tegra 3 codenamed Kal-el as described in my Geezam blog article entitled “Nvidia and the Quad-Core Kal-El CPU – Android leaves A5 Dual-Core Processor in the Dust”.

It boasted 1GB of RAM, and 32GB of storage, which back then in 2011 was considered the cutting edge at least for Tablets.

So much so that I did my own blog article touting the technological advantages of hen then pristine Motorola Xoom, which included the ability to tell the weather due to a built in Barometer as noted in my blog article entitled “Motorola Xoom and Honeycomb - Tablet Evolution in Stormy Weather”.

Motorola Xoom gets second life thanks to XDA Developers – Happy Birthday to the Motorola Xoom

But alas, many a blunder, including the high price tag of US$799 for what was then a new product and no Wi-Fi (IEEE 802.11n) model alternative as noted in my Geezam blog article entitled “Motorola Xoom – 101 on How to Beat the Apple iPad” meant that this produce was dead before 2011 was over.

It got subsequent updates to keep it up to par with the rollouts of3G and 4G LTE Internet, but the hardware has basically remained the same.

So it's nice to see the XDA Developers still pushing the limits of this tablet, which has now been updated to run the latest version of Google Android, that being Google Android 4.4.2 KitKat as noted in the article “Motorola Xoom Still Alive and Kicking, Receives Functional KitKat”, published Jan 2, 2014 at 03:00 am by Will Verduzco, XDA Developers.

If you still held on to yours, thanks to the XDA Developers, you can now update it to Google Android 4.4.2 KitKat to allow you dated Tablet to support immersive apps, wireless printing and cloud storage.

Happy Birthday Motorola Xoom....I still believe in your ultimate potential, as there room for more Tablets in the world as predicted by the analysts Gartner and IDC in my blog article entitled “IDC Stats suggest Tablet Freefall in 2015 – How to sell Tablets using built-in Keyboards and Carrier Unlocked SIM Cards”.
