Wayne Benjamin's Clan Pro Circuit Video Game Tournament and How e-Sports can work in Jamaica

Playing Video Games, more colloquially known as Gaming, is slowly becoming more competitive in Jamaica. No longer is it the domain of isolated Boys with their imported toys at home playing various titles on their Xbox One or PS4.

This is because an initiative put on by Andrew Johnson, Wayne Benjamin and Gregory Moore is set to launch the first competitive Gaming circuit in Jamaica called the Clan Pro Circuit (CPC) Video Game Tournament as per the article “Competitive gaming to be kicked up a notch”, published February 25, 2015, The Jamaica Star.

If his name sound familiar, that’s because he's also the conceptualized behind Jamaica's only Gaming Channel on FLOW Cable TV, The Lab: Video Game TV, as reported in the article “The Lab ‘ Hits Home with Jamaican Gamers”, published Monday October 10, 201, The Jamaica Gleaner.

The Lab: Video Game TV is a thirty (30) minute Video Game roundup programme which discusses Video Gaming news in Jamaica. It has been around since 2011 and has quite the following on Wayne Benjamin (The Lab) Facebook page.

Clan Pro Circuit (CPC) Video Game Tournament – How competitive Video Gaming can work in Jamaica

The CPC has already held their inaugural pow-wow on Saturday February 28th 2015 at the Cove Bar & Restaurant, Winchester Road, St Andrew. Quite an eclectic mix of people, already forming themselves into clans to turn it up a Notch as can be seen from the Video below.

If you missed that initial meeting, the concept is rather simple.

Gamers who want to a part of the CPC form clans to compete against other clans, clash of Clans Style. And yes, for good measure, some CosPlay is involved to bring out the theme that your specific clan represents.

The organizers seem to be going for BYOD (Bring your Own Device) kinda feel. Competitors may be able to carry their own rigs to the competition, be it PC or a Gaming Console such as the XBox360, Xbox One or a PS2, PS3 or PS4, dependent on the types of games being played.

In short, very much like a Domino Tournament, but with Video Game Consoles or Computers instead of Domino Tables!

Clan Pro Circuit (CPC) Video Game Tournament – Still no Video Game Development Competitions

They might also be able to play their video Games on Computers at Computers Game shops so popular in Jamaica who may be a part of the Clan Pro Circuit in a manner similar to a Round Robin for sound selectors!

That would accommodate those Clans that have skills but have no Gaming Rigs or consoles, giving equal billing to prove themselves in one of the several Monthly team tournaments in the following Games:

1.      Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare
2.      FIFA 2015
3.      Mortal Kombat X
4.      Need for Speed
5.      Omega Street Fighter 4
6.      Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3

Much like a game of Dominoes would have judges keeping scores during the competition, the same format would apply here, with winning clans winning prices and accessories from the various companies and manufactures of games sponsoring the CPC Tournament.

That means team clothing, gift certificates, game consoles, headsets and weapons of mass destruction i.e. fighting sticks. Already it's March 2015 and the bravado is starting to spill out in the competitor’s voices.

So will Jamaica see these monthly Clan Pro Circuit tournaments as the advent of e-sports in Jamaica as predicted in my blog article entitled “The E-Sport Phenomenon and Amazon's Twitch Aquisition - How Amazon’s Twitch creates Video Gaming Celebrities and jumpstarts Jamaican Game Development”.

Even better question, when will Jamaican have a Video Game Design competition where the games played are designed and made by Jamaicans as predicted in my blog article entitled “Prof. Joseph Saulter's Digital Game Design and Development Conference - US$112 Billion Video Gaming Industry may be Jamaicans Next BPO”.

Just scope out their Clan Pro Circuit Facebook page to get more details!
