Why the Blackberry Priv will sell like hot Mongoose bread come Black Friday

The Blackberry Priv is looking really nice as noted in the article “BlackBerry Priv Android Phone news and rumors”, published October 16, 2015 By Robert Nazarian, Digitaltrends.

Not a fan of Blackberry, but they posted this excellent video on their YouTube channel on Friday October 16th 2015 confirming its sliding action.

The Blackberry Priv is Blackberry's first Google Android smartphone as describe in my blog article entitled “Blackberry announces Blackberry Priv – The Venice slider is a Passport with a focus on Privacy”.

Announced on Thursday September 24th 2015, there have been some awkward moments for Blackberry CEO John Chen as noted in the article “The BlackBerry CEO’s demo of his new phone is too awkward to watch”, published SEPTEMBER 28, 2015 by Robert Hackett, Fortune.

But Blackberry's been going strong ever since then as they push the idea of Blackberry Security on an Android device.

Blackberry Priv - No Price for the smartphone coming on Black Friday

Still no confirmed price albeit I suspect they'll launch this on Black Friday November 27th 2015.
But the specs are a little clearer now as noted in the article “Watch the BlackBerry Priv's sliding keyboard in action”, published October 16, 2015 By Nick Statt, The Verge.

Folks, this might be a solid competitor to the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Plus as described in my blog article entitled “How Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Plus Keyboard Cover Nostalgia wins Applause” especially as it has similar aesthetics.

The Blackberry Priv has dimensions of 147 x 77.2 x 9.4 mm (5.79 x 3.04 x 0.37 in) and not too heavy at 192 g (6.77 oz), despite having a QWERTY keyboard and mechanical sliding action. The 5.4 AMOLED capacitive touchscreen supports some 16M colors you’ll never be able to see. But that rich palette is displayed on a 1440 x 2560 pixels resolution screen with a 540 ppi pixel density).

It’s running Google Android 5.1.1 on either a Dual-core 1.8 GHz Cortex-A57 & quad-core 1.44 GHz Cortex-A53, depending on where the Blackberry Priv is being sold. The chipset support is a MSM8992 Snapdragon 808 and the graphics end is handled by an Adreno 418. Supporting this fairly powerful processor is 3GB RAM and 32GB or storage that can be expanded to an impressive 200GB via a micro SD Card.

The rear-facing camera is an 18 Megapixel deal with Schneider-Kreuznach optics. It’s a great camera for taking moving video and still images as it has optical image stabilization, autofocus and dual-LED (dual tone) flash and supports 2160p video at 30fps and lower HD quality 1080p video at 60fps.

Features such as Geo-tagging, touch focus, face detection, HDR and support for panorama shots make the camera alone worthwhile. The front-facing Camera is a measly 2 Megapixel deal, so expect to be taking a lot of rear-facing camera selfies, albeit it'll do video calling quite well.

The usual bells and whistles such as GPS, Accelerometer, proximity, compass, SMS, MMS, Email, Push Email, IM, BBM capped off with an HTML5 browser is all made possible thanks to the 3410 mAh battery that gives this bad boy a very long life before you have to reach for that charger.

Here's hoping Blackberry sell like hot mongoose bread, despite no innovative features and fairly mid-range specs. The huge external memory support as well as the QWERTY keyboard screams support for a Blackberry smartwatch and a decent Tablet by 2016!
