Huawei,
it seems, has had a great 2015.
It’s
now been revealed that they’ve sold some 100 million smartphone in 2015 as reported
in the article “Huawei
surpasses local rivals Xiaomi and Lenovo in sales”, published December 18,
2015 By David Curry, DigitalTrends.
This
makes Huawei the Third most popular smartphone seller in the world this in 2015
in terms of sales as noted in the article “Huawei
now third biggest smartphone brand, sold 100m in 2015”, published Dec 18,
2015 By James Walker, Digital Journal.
They
even bested Xiaomi, who are expected to sell some 75 million smartphones this
year, an incredible feat, considering their cut rate prices and high quality
components. To put this all into perspective, here’s how they line up in terms
of global sales:
1.
Samsung
2.
Apple
3.
Huawei
4.
Xiaomi
So
what contributed to this spectacular turnaround from 2014, where they were
fourth globally in terms of smartphone sales?
Huawei 100 million
sales in 2015 - How High-end metal smartphones boosted their Global brand
It
all has to do with appealing to the high-end market. Known mostly for selling
budget Smartphone that aren't as good as their premium cousins such as the
Huawei Y330 and the Y360, in 2015 they decided to step it up a notch.
They
launched the following high-quality, all-metal devices as follows:
1.
G8
2.
Mate S
3.
Mate 8
4.
P8
Huawei
also struck back against Xiaomi inside of their borders in China and also amped
up their presence in new markets like Russia, China and India, taking on the
more nimble Xiaomi in the process as noted in my blog article
entitled “Xiaomi
in India after success in China - Xiaomi Looks to the West as the World is
theirs for the Taking”.
The
finally rounded out the year by being revealed as they makers of Google’s Nexus
6P as I'd predicted in my Geezam blog article entitled “Google
Event on September 29th 2015 to launch Nexus running Marshmallow”.
They
even managed to debut a smartwatch, dubbed the Huawei Watch, which was a classy
attempt that echoed of yesteryears Android Wear stylings as opined in my MICO Wars Blog article
entitled “Why
US$350 Huawei Watch cannot be used for Sex in the shower”.
So
what does Huawei have planned for 2016?
Huawei bringing Honor
to US of A – Competition with Xiaomi in America with Redmi Note 3
More
awesome smartphones are coming to the West, specifically the American market.
First,
expect them to further this partnership with Google in 2016 as predicted in the
article “Nexus
2016: Google Confirms Next Huawei Phone? Snapdragon 820 Included”,
published DECEMBER 14, 2015, The
Australia Network.
They
are slated to release the Huawei Mate 8 in the US of A in 2016 as noted in the
article “Huawei
Mate 8 US Release Date Confirmed for 2016; Specs & Price Revealed”,
published DECEMBER 18, 2015, The
Australia Network.
Even
as I write this, the Huawei Mate 8 has just been granted the FCC’s (Federal
Communication Commission) approval to be sold by Telecom Providers in the US of
A as noted in the article “Huawei
Mate 8 passes through FCC”, published 18 December, 2015 by Victor, GSM
Arena.
The
6" Huawei Mate 8, which runs on Huawei EMUI 4.0, their modified version of
Google Android 6.0 Marshmallow, has some pretty classy specs. The phablet
6" 1,920 x 1,080 resolution display boasts an octa-core 2.3GHz Kirin 950
processor.
It's
also got an impressive 16MP Rear-facing camera with an 8MP front-facing camera
for the selfie-obsessed that rivals the specs of the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge as
promoted in the Geezam blog article entitled “How
Next is Now for launch of Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Plus in Jamaica”.
Xiaomi,
however, may have a surprise up its sleeve and make a push into the US of A
with the Xiaomi Redmi Note 3, the smartphone responsible for much of their 75
million sales in 2015 as described in “Xiaomi
smartphone sales could hit 73 million mark this year, fall short of initial
forecast”, published 18 December, 2015 by Himanshu, GSM Arena.
So
expect a retail price of US$600 in 2016, the Year of the Monkey, as Huawei and
Xiaomi are both expected to dominate the American media.
