Home-keeping youth have ever homely wits….
I would rather entreat thy company
To see the wonders of the world abroad
Than, living dully sluggardized at home,
Wear out thy youth with shapeless idleness.

In my blog article entitled “ComCast and 1Gbps Project Xfinity - Starship Troopers in Cable's Battle Los Angeles”, I “ooed” and “aawed” over Triple Play Provider ComCast’s XFinity jumping to 1GBps speeds via Coaxial Cables, something unheard of for Copper Cable Transmission Systems and usually only associated with Fiber Optic.
Triple Play Provider ComCast’s XFinity service, slated to roll out officially in the Fourth Quarter of 2011AD, is an indication that the Cable Industry is not blind to the coming paradigm of Streaming IPTV (Internet Protocol Televisions) services such as Netflix.
The recent announcement of secret plans to unbundle their Cable Channels as stated in my blog article entitled “Cable Providers secretly mull unbundling their cable channels - Google TV has customers Tangled A La Carte” indicates where the Cable Industry is going: Streaming IPTV and Web TV Services.
Locally here in Jamaica, Net2Vu, a Barbadian FDI (Foreign Direct Investor) in partnership with JNAP (Jamaica Network Access Point), a contractor previously working with Telecom Provider Claro as it relates to Cell Site Maintenance, launched a Streaming IPTV Service in The Fourth Quarter of 2010AD as mentioned in my blog article entitled “FLOW, IPTV and the coming of Net2Vu - Johnny Mnemonic”. They are the first known local IPTV Streaming company in Jamaica, long before the issuing of IPTV Streaming Licenses from the Broadcasting Commission began in Jamaica.
Triple Play Provider FLOW is not taking any chances, announcing a similar raft of copycat upgrades in July 2011AD cribbed from No. 1 Cable Provider ComCast as stated in my blog article entitled “FLOW goes 3D HDTV as Netflix cometh - XFinity follow-on indicates Streaming's Deep Impact”.
Most recently in October 2011AD, Telecom Provider LIME has announced plans of an IPTV Streaming in partnership with Content Provider Avail-TVN as stated in my blog article entitled “LIME parent CWC partners with Avail-TVN to provide IPTV Streaming Service - War of The Worlds against Netflix”.
Telecom Provider Digicel Broadband 4G and Telecom Provider LIME 3G Networks are both engaged in an upgrade of their Networks, slated to be completed by December 2012AD to a HSDPA+ Release 7 (High Speed Downlink Packet Access Plus) Network Caribbean-wide as stated in my blog article entitled “LIME's US$80 million Caribbean HSDPA+ Release 7 Upgrade - Sonic the Hedgehog” and the article “Of ATC Strikes and Digicel 3G+ Upgrades - Pushing Tin in Eerie, Indiana”.
Google buying Motorola Mobility in order to achieve in Europe what Hollywood appears to be blocking them from doing in the US of A was an earlier sign as mentioned in my blog article entitled “Google TV making push into the EU – Motorola Mobility Purchase Die Another Day”.
Clearly, without saying it, they are ALL afraid of Netflix and Google and the horde of other IPTV Streaming Services and Platform Support in the form of the Roku, Apple iTV, Boxee and SlingBox coming to Jamaica as stated in my blog article entitled “Netflix coming to Latin America - Fantastic Four Rise of the Silver Surfer”.
But more importantly, all these speed increases and Telecom Equiptment upgrades just for IPTV and Web TV with 3D HDTV capability thrown in also had me amazed from a technical standpoint, something which bears repeating, as only Fiber Optic is known for such speeds.
Most notable example of such a Fiber Optic Service is Telecom Provider Verizon’s 1Gbps FiOS Network as demonstrated on August 2010AD as stated in the article “Verizon demos 1GBps FIOS connection”, published August 16, 2010 2:55 PM PDT by Marguerite Reardon, CNET News - Signal Strength, CNET News.
Their November 2010AD intro of 150MBps speeds as stated in the article “Verizon intros 150MBps Broadband on Fios”, published November 22, 2010 3:31 PM PST by Marguerite Reardon, CNET News - Signal Strength, was favourably received, thus justifying the speed bump.
It’s the classic battle of Copper vs Fiber, gentle people!!!!
So what other uses do we have for higher speeds then, since these speeds in the 100’s of Mb are clearly useful for HDTV (High Definition Television) and 3D HDTV as I had earlier prognosticated in my blog article entitled “Telecom Providers and 100MBps - Diamonds are Forever”? Only one other potential idea comes to mind: Quantum Teleportation.
For those who don’t watch Star Trek (2009), Quantum Teleportation is the same thing referred to as the “Transporter”. The basic idea is that, like a Fax Machine operating over a Telecom Provider’s Landline Network, you can make a copy of an object in three-dimensional space and replicate at a receiving device at the other end, a concept that is the central theme of the movie Timeline (2003).
The only difference from a Fax Machine is that you are recreating the object at the Receiving End Pad and destroying the object at the Transporting End Pad by copying its exact Quantum Mechanical State over a Communication Medium. This is an impossibility in Physics, as Energy cannot be created nor destroyed, but is constantly changing form, a general statement of the First Law of Thermodynamics.
Thus, Quantum Teleportation is really involves converting the atoms of the object into a suitable form of Energy, be it electrons as in the case of the movie Timeline (2003) or faster than light Tachyon particles or even Neutrinos, reportedly faster than light as stated in my article “Physics shocker! Neutrinos clocked faster than light”, published SEPTEMBER 23, 2011 4:53 AM PDT by Stephen Shankland, CNET News - Deep Tech. Thus the First Law of Thermodynamics is preserved.
Then this converted Energy as well as the information or pattern buffer for the Quantum Mechanical State is transmitted over the Communication Medium to the Receiving End Pad. Thus, such a Quantum Teleportation Device or Transporter for short would require vast amounts of Energy and information to be transmitted very fast over two (2) separate Power and Telecom Network Wireless.
Conceivably, Telecom Provider Wireless and Wired Ultra-Wideband Networks would have to be faster than 1TBps, preferably in the order of 100’s of TBps and FULLY satisfying the five nines i.e. 99.999% uptime and reliability of transmission without error. The first set of object transported via such a Quantum Teleportation Device would be regular objects, possibly with a camera attached.
Hopefully, what happened in the Michael Crichton book Timeline (2003) will not occur when this is attempted! Also, by such a time when Quantum Teleportation is available, the following would have been in place:
1. Vast amounts of Energy Cheaply available on site beside the Quantum Teleportation Device in a small form factor i.e. the size of a Portable Generator
2. Telecom Providers with Wireless and Wired Ultra-Wideband Networks in the hundreds of Terabytes at very low prices and Transmitting End Pad and Receiving End Pad
Eventually, when the ethical issues as it relates to transporting Living Objects is overcome despite the nightmarish scenario in the movie The Fly (1958), transporting people and goods would render Air and Sea Freight Services obsolete. Even Personal Motor Vehicles and other forms of Mass Transportation would be rendered useless.
However, to withstand the stresses of such forms of travel, relax the mind or make the subject more accepting of Quantum Teleportation, it may become commonplace for travelers to take caplets filled with either THC (TetraHydroCannabinol), the extract from Marijuana (Cannabis Sativa), Salvia or Psilocybin as stated in the article “Want to Be More Open-Minded? Magic Mushrooms Found to Help”, published September 29, 2011 By KIM CAROLLO, ABC News.
All of which alter the mind and thus make one more accepting of the harrowing journey about to take place as evidenced in my blog article entitled “Salvia, THC and Shared Dreaming - Altered States meets Inception” and the article “THC Extract as a prescription pain killer - A Limitless Long Term Bio-Fuel Future for Jamaica” in which I argued for the legalization of THC (TetraHydroCannabinol) in Jamaica sometime in the future.
A journey via Quantum Teleportation a few thousand miles away or across the Milky Way Galaxy a few thousand Light Years away, Ben 10: Alien Force (TV Series 2008– ) Style.
