Surfing the Internet Anonymously using VPN - How to use Streaming Set Top Boxes over VPN

With so much concern about privacy these days, especially with NSA (National Security Agency) snooping, one has to be careful about what you do online. This isn't a concern of Jamaicans but more of our American friends to the North as noted in the article “HERE ARE THE BEST VPN SERVICES YOU CAN GET”, published September 19, 2014 By Digital Trends Staff, DigitalTrends.

We're more concerned about getting the latest shows via Streaming.

To this end, the use of Proxy Servers and VPN (Virtual Private Networks) has become a popular option if you want to “illegally” watch the latest Series TV shows and Movies on offer from Netflix or Hulu without restrictions due to our geographic locations as explained in my blog article entitled “How to find Free TV online and how to Stream from Hulu or Netflix in Jamaica - Jamaican Pirate of the Caribbean on Stranger Tides Streaming Restricted US Content”.

Please note the “illegally” in quotes; using a Proxy isn’t illegal, it’s just simply deceptive. Still you have a right to privacy only and freedom from discrimination based on your geographical location in the world. It is on this basis that I offer this information in this blog article.

Advantages of Proxy Server and PN to Jamaicans - Streaming Content and Making Money online

In that article, I was really focusing on college students who wanted to stream content using their Desktop or Laptop. This as by surfing the Internet via a Proxy Server or VPN, you can set up an American Hulu or Netflix Account, pay your US$10 per month using a Scotia VISA Debit Card or CIBC VISA Debit Card and watch all their Content unrestricted despite your Geographical location.

You can also make upwards of US$1000 per month working online via websites intended for Americans once you sign up via a Proxy Server or VPN. Then there is even e-commerce, which basically lets you sell products to Americans and Europeans online via Ebay or Amazon. These accounts work better if you sign up via a Proxy Server or VPN. This is so long as the items you're shipping abroad isn't food or anything on the Jamaica Customs List of Restricted Items viewable on the Jamaica Customs website.

Buying things online is easier too once you log on to and sign up for Amazon Account or Ebay accounts via a Proxy Server or VPN. After that's it just a matter of you choosing a local courier and getting ready to spend with your Scotia VISA Debit Card or CIBC VISA Debit Card as explained in my blog article entitled “How to purchase items and subscribe to Magazines online and ship them to Jamaica” and in more detailed in my Geezam blog article entitled “How to ship things to Jamaica after you’re purchase them online”.

Finally, if you make Animation content or any kind of Video, you are better able to make money if you initially sign up via a Proxy Server or VPN. YouTube Accounts currently only allow persons to make money from videos if they're Americans.

How to log into a VPN on your computer - A list of the Best VPN

Using a Proxy Server is pretty straightforward and self-explanatory by whichever Free Proxy Service you use. VPN's on the other hand, are a paid deal and a lot more anonymous and secure and is basically logging into an ISP (Internet Service Provider) in a different country. You have to pay to use them using your Scotia VISA Debit Card or CIBC VISA Debit Card.

The process of logging into a VPN as described in my blog article entitled “How to find Free TV online and how to Stream from Hulu or Netflix in Jamaica - Jamaican Pirate of the Caribbean on Stranger Tides Streaming Restricted US Content”  in Windows 7 is as follows:

1.      Click the Start button

2.      Type VPN in the search bar

3.      Select Set up a virtual private Network (VPN) connection.

4.      Enter the IP address or domain name of the server to which you want to connect

5.      Select Don't connect now If you want to set up the connection, but not connect

6.      Enter your username and password you had received from the VPN Service, or leave it blank

7.      Click Connect

8.      Click on the Windows Network logo on the lower-right part of your screen

9.      Select Connect under VPN Connection

10.  Enter the appropriate domain and your log-in credentials in the Connect VPN Connection box

11.  Select Properties on the Connect VPN Connection screen

12.  Navigate to the Security tab

13.  Select the specific Type of VPN from the drop-down list.

14.  Click OK and Connect

Streaming Set Top Boxes over VPN - Modify your Internet Router or set up Streaming Server

Once your VPN is set up on your computer, if you want to use your Roku, Apple iTV, Google Chromecast or Amazon Fire TV to stream American content, you'll need to access your Internet Router based on the model you have and the instruction manual. Then enter the VPN Settings i.e. IP Address, Mask, Port and Channels for the VPN Service, into your Internet Router.

If your Internet Router is from Triple Play Provider FLOW or Telecom Provider LIME's ADSL (Asynchronous Digital Subscriber Line), you may need to call Customer Care to tell them you the login and password to access their Internet Router.

Otherwise you may have to resort to setting up your computer as a Server with dual NIC (Network Interface Cards) or buying an alternative Router so that when you can modify its settings and enter the VPN Settings and connect your Streaming Set Top Box to that computer.

 Thus your Streaming Set Top Box once connected to that Server or Router will be seen as if it’s in the US of A and will allow you to log in accordingly as an American.

Best of all, some Streaming Products allow you to stream from your computer already connected on VPN. So you might not need to go through this rigmarole.

Just VPN on your computer and Stream your content via Wi-Fi to your Streaming device, such as the Google ChromeCast as described in my blog article entitled “Google launches a 4G LTE Google Nexus 7 and Google Chromecast Streaming Device - Uninspired Tablet upgrades but US$35 Google Chromecast is the Streaming World's Blue Jasmine”.
