Why smartphones Wireless Charging Trend in 2015 points to household appliances in 2016

Now that Samsung has declared 2015 the year of the Wireless Charger as reported in my Geezam blog article entitled “Samsung declares 2015 Year of Wireless Smartphone Charging becoming an Industry Standard”, now would be a good time to get with this trend towards wireless Charging.

After all, Inductive charging using a fluctuating Magnetic field is aesthetically pleasing albeit less efficient than just plugging your Smartphone into a charger connected to a wall socket. But it has its advantages.

For one, it involves no wires and can power gadgets at a distance as demonstrated by the team at KAIST (Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology) using their DCRS (Dipole Coil Resonant System) as described in my blog article entitled “KAIST developes DCRS, a long-range Wireless Charging Technology - IEC Charger Standards now obsolete as KAIST makes an Earth based Magnetar”.

For another, it can charge multiple devices from the same socket without the tangle of a cord, as is the case with Meredith Perry's Ubeam product that uses ultrasound to charge smartphones and laptops at a distance as explained in my blog article entitled “Meredith Perry's Ubeam Ultrasonic Power Transfer and the Venture Capitalists - Ubeam's Wireless Charging Future is a Good Vibration with a Magnetic Personality”.

Currently most Wireless Chargers fall into one of two (2) competing Wireless Charging standards:

1.   Qi, under the WPC (Wireless Power Consortium)
2.   Powermat, under the PMA (Power Matters Alliance)

PMA is in the process of merging with A4WP (Alliance for Wireless Power), making the Wireless Charging field a little less Hazy.

With Samsung supporting the Qi Standard with their line of Wireless Chargers and the Samsung Galaxy S6 and Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge now coming with built in Wireless Charging as noted in my Geezam blog article entitled “Samsung Galaxy S6 and Edge at MWC 2015 coming to Mash up Jamaica” it made me wonder if better Third party Wireless Chargers existed on the market

Wireless Charging Trend for smartphones – Tablets and small household appliances may be next

Turns out quite a few exist as listed in the article “5 great wireless chargers to free yourself from cables”, published May 16, 2015 By Simon Hill, DigitalTrends:

4.      US$50 Tylt VÜ Solo

Their comparative specs are as listed below.

Good to note if your Smartphone does not support wireless charging, you may have to purchase a Smartphone case or a special battery for your smartphone that does.

Patriot Memory FUEL iON magnetic charging system is the odd system out as it uses a proprietary charging technology. You might want to consider if you want to be locked into a particular product vendor’s components and parts if you decided to use this Wireless Charger.

This trend towards Wireless charging for Smartphone’s is officially in Jamaica now that the  Samsung Galaxy S6 and Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge  has launched on the island as noted in my Geezam blog article entitled “The Future is Now as Samsung Galaxy S6 launches in Jamaica”.

With Tablets using Chargers as well as Laptops, expect this trend to start creeping into these gadgets as well. Small Household appliance in the Kitchen might be next might benefit, especially as Wireless Chargers offer the convenience of using multiple appliances from the same outlet without the tangle of extension cords and wires.

I'll be sure to watch and I’ll be sure to write about how this trend may be slowly appearing in other gadget as well.
