“The agency will be extending its working hours in tandem
with the port operators and these will be specific to each port or public
bonded warehouse. We will be opening our doors on some Saturdays in December,
and we will have dedicated lines for customs brokers and the elderly at the
Manifest Branch and the cashiers”
Commissioner of
Customs, Major Richard Reese at the Jamaica Chamber of Commerce’s (JCC) Customs
Tariff and Port Users Committee held on Thursday September 24th 2015
Folks, Television Personality Neville Bell of Television
Jamaica Fame is right on the money; Christmas is basically here already!! Cue
the song All I want for
Christmas by Mariah Carey.
Already, since Thursday September 24th 2015, the
Jamaica Customs Agency has begun boosting security and staff in anticipation of
a very busy Christmas period for Jamaicans.
Commissioner of Customs, Major Richard Reese has announced
additional personnel to be deployed at the airports and Seaports as reported in
by the Horses’ Mouth, in the Jamaica Information Service article “Customs
to Implement Measures for Busy Christmas Season”, published September 28,
2015 By Latonya Linton, The Jamaica Information
Service.
Commissioner of Customs, Major Richard Reese made this
announcement at the Jamaica Chamber of Commerce’s (JCC) Customs Tariff and Port
Users Committee at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel in New Kingston, which was held on
Thursday September 24th 2015.
In fact, online purchases are on the rise according to the
Jamaica Customs Agency compared to the same period in October 2014.
So much so that the Jamaica Customs Agency is considering
the idea of making the importation of items that cost only US$100 Custom Duty
free as I'd reported in my blog article
entitled “Jamaica
Customs Agency Stats - Why US$100 Duty Free shopping coming as Jamaicans
shopping online this Christmas”.
So what will be the first thing you'll buy when this US$100
Custom Duty waiver comes into effect? How about a Fiber Optic Christmas Tree!
Why Purchasing a
Fiber Optic Christmas Tree makes sense - Save on your Electricity Bill this
Christmas
While not yet official, it might be a good idea to consider
searching for items that cost US$100 to purchase, like these Fibre Optic
Christmas Tree that the JPS Co's Twitter Account @myJPSonline has been
recommending since Thursday December 11th 2014 on their Twitter feed.

Aside from look more beautiful than a regular Christmas
tree, these are a lot more durable, lasting a lot longer than the Pine tree
sold in Tropical Plaza each Christmas. Fibre Optic Christmas Tree run in also
runs on a single set of LED Lights. Thus the use a lot power than a traditional
Christmas Tree with incandescent lights.
Also this isn’t a fire hazard or a broken Glass Hazard like
the Aura Wireless Christmas Lighting System as reported in my blog article
entitled “Aura
Wireless Christmas Lighting System Kickstarter - Wireless Power Transfer for
Christmas Tree Lights in 2015 needs to get Kid-Friendly design”.
The Super-efficient LED blubs generate light, not heat as
noted in my blog
article entitled “2014
Nobel Prize for Physics for Blue LED's - Why Blue LED's are super-efficient
replacements for Flourescent and Incandescent White Lighting”.
The plastic Fiber Optic waveguides that make up the Fibre Optic
Christmas Tree the carry the light around the tree with the light being
programmable to display patterns and pulsations, some even to music. A lot of
these Fiber Optic Christmas Trees are programmable via a smartphone app
Best of all is the cost; Fibre Optic Christmas Trees in
various sizes and configurations cost under US$100. Finally the Christmas tree
is now entering into the 21st Century! So when the Jamaica Customs Agency
finally decided to implement the US$100 Duty Free concession, what will you buy
first?
