Amazon Smart Glasses Patent - Why 3D Portable Fuel Cell Power will compete against Microsoft, HTC, Oculus and Samsung

Seems Amazon has plans to take on both the VR (Virtual Reality) and the AR (Augmented Reality) space in 2016 along with other debutantes.

They've applied for a patent at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office on Friday October 16th 2015 for a pair of smart glasses as described in the article “Amazon files Smart Glasses patent for watching movies and augmenting Real life”, published October 16, 2015 By David Curry, DigitalTrends

The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office patent No. 9,158,115 filed on Tuesday October 13th , 2015 and published on Friday October 16th, 2015 as indicated in the article “Amazon may be interested in making augmented Reality smart glasses”, published October 16, 2015 By Nick Statt, The Verge, describes a device as show in the diagram below.

Their smart glasses reminds me a lot of Amazon other smart Glasses that they use internally as described in my blog article entitled “Amazon Glass US Patent US20150168727 Filing - Why Wearable computer will make smartphones and Tablets Obsolete”.

That I'd predicated would be the basis for a consumer product. So what's so unique about the Amazon smart Glasses that makes it so special and makes anyone wanna put on a pair of glasses to view 3D images.

Amazon Smart Glasses Patent - Why VR and AR Amazon Smart Glasses can compete against Microsoft, HTC and Facebook's Oculus Rift

The Amazon smart Glasses reminds me of transition lenses; it can switch views between a Virtual Reality viewing modes to an Augmented Reality viewing mode, combining the functionality of the Oculus rift with the Microsoft Hololens.

The patent describes the glasses as an accessory, with the processing power being provided by a tablet that gives the user the ability to control switching modes between Virtual Reality viewing modes to an Augmented Reality viewing modes.

The pairing between the glasses and the Tablet is based on Bluetooth, but Amazon might have to rethink and upgrade to Wi-Fi Direct or Wi-Fi 802.11ac as Bluetooth doesn't have the bandwidth to handle streaming the content necessary to create immersive environments.

Luckily enough, the design comes in both Wired and Wireless formats, just like a pair of headphones as noted in the article “Amazon could soon enter augmented Reality world with smart glasses”, published October 18, 2015 By Jagmeet Singh, International Business Times.

This means that the Amazon Smart glasses will just have communicating with the Tablet and battery to power the device, making it lighter than the Oculus Rift and the Microsoft Hololens.

Amazon Glasses may bring Pro VR AR Cost down - Why Fuel Cell Power will make 3D Portability

This as cost may be a deciding factor for many persons willing to try Virtual Reality.

With a dash of Augmented Reality, it also doubles as a mini movie theatre experience for 3D Videos that may finally crack the 3D Television market by making it portable as noted in the article “Amazon may be working on special smart glasses that let you watch movies”, published Oct. 16, 2015, by Eugene Kim, Business Insider.

Keep the price low by making them connect to any device that can stream to the Amazon Smart glasses means that Amazon can break into the fierce rivalry in both the Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality market in 2016 as predicted in my blog article entitled “Rivalry between @Facebook and @HTC – @Google, @Microsoft, @Sony and @Samsung in VR as Video Game Console Savior and smartphones Extinction”.

Amazon patent also leaves open the possibility to add in Hydrogen Fuel Cells similar to those being contemplated for the Apple Macbook in a recent patent filing as described in my blog article entitled “Apple files patent for Hydrogen Fuel cell – Why Portable Hydrogen Fuel Cells needed to cut the Analog Power Cord”.

Once that's in the design, you'll be looking at the next must have peripheral for the Amazon Fire TV as well as for Gamers and PC users alike in 2016 as predicted in my blog article entitled “GameCon 2015 in Germany - Why VR will save Video Games and Why Jamaica needs a Design and Developer Video Game Conference”.

Fashion and function combine to make VR and AR available to the masses.
