While many have declared Google Glass Dead albeit they're
just retooling for Medical, Military and Corporate and Enterprise customers as pointed
out in my blog
article entitled “Google
Glass coming to Enterprise users - Personal PC beginnings to replace
smartphones and Gaming Consoles in 2016”, the idea of making an AR
(Augmented Reality) Headset hasn't died.
Reports had surfaced in June 2015 that suggest that Google
plans to make an AR (Augmented Reality) Glasses similar to Google Glass as
reported in the article “Amazon
patents Google Glass clone that may give warehouse workers cyborg vision”,
published June 189 2015 by Mark Sullivan, VentureBeat.
Like Google Glass, the design, which Amazon
filed in a patent with the US Patent and Trademark Office under US20150168727
titled Pointer Tracking for eye-level Scanners and displays, is among
twelve (12) US patent applications published on Thursday June 18th June
2015 and assigned to Amazon as reported in the article “Amazon
patent applications published 18 June 2015”, published 18.06.2015 by Latest Patents.

It makes for long but exciting reading as it’s basically a
wearable computer that has a camera built in…a lot like Google Glass.
The idea behind the Amazon Patent US20150168727
titled Pointer Tracking for eye-level Scanners and displays is that it
would be worn by their warehouse staff in their Fulfillment Centers to help the
quickly identify object in the warehouse as well as bring up inventory
information on demand as it relates to processing an order.

The computer will run image recognition software that does
the job of recognizing packages via their package markings i.e. mailing
addresses, bar codes, or QR codes and displaying this information on the HUD for
the warehouse worker.
It will also tell them other information, such as
instructions on handling the product, Environmental hazards as well as shipping
destination and method.
By having this information in a HUD (Heads Up Display), the
main trait that defines AR, the warehouse worker’s hands are freed to do other
things as explained in the article “Why

Patent Filing - Why Wearable computer will make smartphones and Tablets
Obsolete
Albeit this is an Amazon Patent US20150168727
titled Pointer Tracking for eye-level Scanners and displays, the potential
behind this late-breaking revelation is huge! Amazon Glass (can I call it that,
Amazon!?) like Google Glass, has the potential to make humans into cyborgs, to
reduce warehouse packaging errors.
It still would have little value to regular users outside of
Amazon as was the case with Google Glass when it was launched to the public in
April 2014 as reported in my blog article
entitled “Google
Glass launched early as a Product - Google pre-empting Samsung Galaxy Glass and
Facebook's Oculus Rift replacing the smartphone in 2015 the Year of the Sheep”.
But like Google Glass, this might be another product that
Amazon has in mind to build and test in-house that may eventually become a
rival to Google Glass.
It might even show up as a AR or even VR Gaming peripheral
to be sold with the Amazon Fire TV, which does already have a Gaming Controller
as pointed out in my blog article

Folks, all bets are still on that Wearables such as smart
watches and Google Glass can potentially make smartphones and Tablets obsolete
as predicted in my blog article

Sexy = Smexy glasses Katy Perry Roar for Tablet and smartphone Extinction”.
Already, 2016 is being labled the year of Virtual Reality,
with companies such as Facebook owned Oculus Rift, HTC with their Vive VR Headset
and even Microsoft and the as-yet-to-be-released Hololens looking to make a
mark in Gaming as explained in my blog article
entitled “GamesCom
2015 in Germany - Why VR will save Video Games and Why Jamaica needs a Design
and Developer Video Game Conference”.

example of a Google Glass-esque device being planned for use in industrial or
enterprise setting that potentially can be a gamechanger not only in Gaming but
in computing.
Smartphone and Tablet extinction is all but sealed!
