Apple CEO Steve Jobs Resigns as Apple Becomes No 1 - Rihanna Cheers from Apple iMac to Apple iPad

Another such victory over the Romans, and we are undone

Phyrrus in Plutarch’s Lives

The news hit me like a small pile of Gold bricks: Apple CEO Steven Paul Jobs has resigned and Tim Cook is now the new CEO as stated in the Reuters article entitled “Steve Jobs resigns from Apple, Cook becomes CEO”, published Wednesday August 24, 2011 7:53pm EDT By Poornima Gupta, Reuters and the article “Steve Jobs steps down from Apple”, published AUGUST 24, 2011 3:45 PM PDT By Josh Lowensohn, CNET News – Apple.

I would post other News references but this was the one I saw first and it’s to the point: everybody knew this was coming, the markets reacted sharply and speculation is rife ranging from his deteriorating health to the recent success of Apple in becoming No. 1 in the PC Market.

No guessing, just straight facts!

And the tweets of surprise just keep pouring in, many of which you can read in the article “Tech luminaries and others tweet about Steve Jobs”, published AUGUST 24, 2011 7:43 PM PDT By Boonsri Dickinson, CNET News - BUSINESS TECH.

So I shall do my readers a favour and not add to the speculation as his resignation and now appointment as Board Chairman with Tim Cook as CEO is now fact as stated in the article “Text of resignation letter from Steve Jobs”, published AUGUST 24, 2011 3:52 PM PDT by CNET News Staff – Apple and the article “Breaking: Steve Jobs resigns. Tim Cook new Apple CEO”, published August 24, 2011, 3:42pm PT by Om Malik, GigaOM.

Instead, I will point out that Apple’s stellar superstar CEO leaves behind a solid fourteen (14) year history of performance as evident from his achievements since returning back to Apple in 1997AD after being originally ousted during Apple’s downturn as chronicled in the article “10 products that defined Steve Jobs' career”, published August 25 2011 by PETER SVENSSON, AP Technology Writer, Yahoo News.

His history makes a colorful Wikipedia post! Coincidentally, 1997AD is the year I went to UTECH (University of Technology) to do my Diploma in Electronics and Telecommunications (1997 to 2000). Back then the PC Industry had a newness about it that I followed online as well as in Popular Electronics magazines that I purchased augmented with borrowed and read copies of Wired Magazine while I boarded off-Campus in Kingston.

It was Apple vs Microsoft back then……

Pre-1997AD was his fall from grace from Apple Computers the company he and his partner Stephen Gary "Woz" Wozniak founded (more or less!) in a garage back in 1977 to make Personal Computers. He got booted out of his own company during a computer slump in 1984AD, the year of the Apple Mackintosh. In his hiatus, Steve Jobs spun off two (2) companies NeXT and PiXaR, the influences of which could be seen after his return in 1997AD.

A year later in 1998AD, the Apple iMac came out and thus began the fourteen (14) year journey of Apple back to the top, culminating with the Apple iPad in 2010AD. Both of which, incidentally, are All-in-One Computers, BOTH modeled on a previous Apple products and BOTH still being upgraded with each yearly refresh!

And where does he leave Apple?

At the very top of the game, people, with DisplaySearch confirming their 21.1% Marketshare US Dominance in Shipments the Second Quarter of 2011AD as stated in the article “Apple grabs top spot in mobile PC market from HP”, published AUGUST 18, 2011 6:24 AM PDT by Lance Whitney, CNET News – Apple.

Not to mention jump starting the “Post-Pc Era” as encapsulated in the Geezam Blog article entitled “Are we witnessing Laptop and PC Extinction?” with the Apple iPad and starting the smartphone revolution with their high quality smartphone, the Apple iPhone as stated in my blog article entitled “Apple iPhone and Hardware Quality - The Count of Monte Cristo Hard Knock Life”.

Even now, the innovation has not ceased.

The Apple iMac, the device that change the fortunes of Apple and recently refreshed to include a ThunderBolt Port, looks set to change the Television Industry in 2012AD, as rumours abound of Apple planning to make an Apple Television Set to mate with its Streaming Apple iTV as stated in my blog article entitled “Apple Television Set, a docking cradle for the Apple iTV - Super 8 A Gift for Christmas”. At that point, the product ecosystem for iOS would be near complete.

A point even GigaOM Erica Ogg tacitly supports in her article “The end of the PC era”, published August 18, 2011, 2:00pm PT By Erica Ogg, GigaOM and IBM Senior Engineer Mark Dean, a co-designed of the first IBM PC as stated in the article “IBM executive says PC era is in its twilight”, published AUGUST 10, 2011 9:20 PM PDT By Brooke Crothers, CNET News - NANOTECH - THE CIRCUITS BLOG.

Now it’s Apple vs Google!

Apple now faces new enemies both those who infringe on her IP (Intellectual Property) in terms of the Apple iPhone and Apple iPad as stated in my blog article entitled “Apple blocks Samsung Galaxy Tab in EU - Dancehall Hero's Revenge of the Sith” as well as in the pervasiveness of Google Android OS.

Google is now experiencing market dominance in both smartphones and Tablets as stated in my blog article entitled “Android Tablets Marketshare gain over the Apple iPad - Clear and Present Danger”.

Here’s a bottle of Guinness to Apple CEO Steven Paul Jobs on an innings well played, as he leaves Apple in a position for success for the lofty heights as Apple Chairman of the Board Rihanna I Drink to That!

Apple CEO Steven Paul Jobs, who believed in my crazy Apple iPad idea given away via hidden audio-visual device back in April 2009AD and witnessed by a bunch of brain-dead Shurpower Engineers en route to fixing some Generators on Auto-start.

HP TouchPad a target for Modders - PopCaan Raving Chicken Run Lazarus Effect for Cloud-Based Chrome OS Tablet

Man want but little here below
Nor wants that little long

Goldsmith, The Hermit

The now sold out US$99 HP TouchPad after fire sales at Best Buy and Wal-Mart, as the Americans call this phenomenon of a company selling out while scampering out of a business as stated in the article “U.S. Best Buy to sell $100 HP TouchPad Sunday”, published AUGUST 20, 2011 11:03 PM PDT By Brooke Crothers, CNET News - NANOTECH - THE CIRCUITS BLOG and “$99 HP TouchPad Selling Out During Fire Sale”, published August 20, 2011 8:52 AM By Christina DesMarais, PCWorld has begun to attract modders [American colloquial: hardware and software modifiers].

This as the HP TouchPad’s hardware, for the specs oriented, makes it perfect for installing Open Source Ubuntu OS as stated in the article “HP TouchPad becomes a low-cost Ubuntu tablet”, published August 22, 2011, 2:17pm PT By Kevin C. Tofel, GigaOM. The TouchDroid team, unknown to me (and I am not too crazy about their name!), also began modding the HP TouchPad with the intention to put Google Android on the now free-to-experiment on ARM hardware.

Before the fall from grace of HP in cashing out of the PC business, I had predicted this trend of modding the HP Touchpad would be its main attraction as chronicled in my blog article entitled “HP gets out of PC, TouchPad and WebOS Business - Apple iPad's victim A long Time Ago in Mexico”. Effectively, the HP Touchpad is being slowly resurrected by the Open Source Community, a clear cut case of the Lazarus Effect of Open Source before our very eyes.

Thus the HP TouchPad is now a part of the fold of devices that comprise a third of the Global Marketshare of Tablets, namely “White Box” as indicate by the statistics of analyst DisplaySearch as stated in my blog article entitled “Apple iPad vs “White Box” Tablet - Jason's Argonauts Home Improvement The Next Big Thing”.

But of interest to me is this: When will the modders try out Google Chrome OS on the HP Touchpad?  The HP TouchPad makes great hardware to test out the concept of a Cloud-Based Tablet using the little talked about Google Chrome OS as stated in my blog article entitled “Google Chrome OS for Tablets Coming - Around the World in 80 Days”.

As for WebOS…….work on the OS continues in secret among the Developer forums, making me hope for a revival on the same scale as happened for Google Android back in 2009AD. Thus my prediction of WebOS beating Nokia + Microsoft for second place in the Global Marketshare race with Google Android by 2015AD as stated in my blog article entitled “Nokia + Microsoft vs HP Web OS - Gartner's Ocean's Eleven Plan to Rob the Casino” may come to pass after all!

Especially as Google may have plans to do just that as stated in my blog article entitled “Google Chrome OS for Tablets Coming - Around the World in 80 Days”. Suggestion of mine that may be a Chicken Run (2000) for the First Cloud-Based Chrome OS Tablet, Popcaan Raving Style!

US Airlines Pilots endorse the Apple iPad - Tessanne Chin's Hideaway in the PaperLess Revolution

Our country has deliberately undertaken a great social and economic experiment noble in motive and far-reaching in purpose.

Herbert Hoover, Letter to Senator Borah, 1928

The concept of the Paperless Office has gotten a lot of bad Press……..until the Apple iPad arrived. Granted, it will never be a good e-Reader like the Amazon Kindle or the Barnes and Noble Nook, with its strong female following with CVM TV Producer and Media Personality Beauty Queen Regina Beavers, on the hit morning time show CVM at Sunrise leading the adoption curve in Jamaica with her Amazon Kindle as stated in my blog article entitled “Women adore the Barnes and Noble Nook Colour – Free e-reader Home Improvement”.

Meanwhile in the US of A, as far back as 2010AD, the Apple iPad and Apple CEO Steve Jobs has found acceptance among members of the House of Representatives, specifically House Representative Senator Henry Cuellar (D-Texas). He spoke adoringly of the Apple iPad to iPadDailyNews on Tuesday December 28th 2010AD, saying, quote: “If you look at available technology, properly leveraged it can make us a more efficient Congress; there is so much immediate information we can gather with an iPad.”.

No wonder Senator Barack Obama, President of the United States of America also paid lip service to the lucky “toy” as some American has styled the Apple iPad Tablet as stated in the article “Even the President has Praise for Apple CEO Steve Jobs”, published Thursday December 23, 2010 5:10 pm ET by Jennifer LeClaire, newsfactor.com, Yahoo! News. In effect, the President of the United States of America has given tacit approval to the Paperless Revolution as recorded in my blog article entitled “Apple iPad and the House of Representatives - Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid”.

So I am pleased to announce that United Airways, which represents US Airways and Continental pilots, has apparently taking a leaf out of House Representative Senator Henry Cuellar (D-Texas) and Senator Barack Obama, President of the United States of America book and have endorsed the idea of using the Apple iPad in Airplanes as stated in the article “United Airlines switching to iPads in the cockpit”, published AUGUST 23, 2011 7:10 AM PDT By Josh Lowensohn, CNET News - APPLE TALK.

Specifically, they are using the Jeppesen Mobile FliteDeck, a navigation App, a category that is Fourth in terms of popularity of Apps as stated in my Geezam Blog article entitled “Smartphones and Apps – Freemium Games are No. 1” and FAA (Federal Aviation Authority) approved. Quite a coincidence, really, as only yesterday, I wrote an article about RC (Remote Control) flying aircraft, effectively a toy, as per my blog article entitled “Griffin Helo TC US$50 Apple iPhone controlled Helicopter – TVJ and CVM TV's Flight of the Navigator”.

According the article it’s a swap, really: 38 lbs of bulky manuals in exchange for the 1.5lb Apple iPad. A total of eleven thousand (11,000) Apple iPad, which really works out, if you do the math, as it eliminates twelve thousands sheets of paper per pilot and saves the airline three hundred and twenty six (326,000) gallons of jet fuel a year!

United Airways official Press Release sums it up, quote: “Each iPad, which weighs less than 1.5 pounds, will replace approximately 38 pounds of paper operating manuals, navigation charts, reference handbooks, flight checklists, logbooks and weather information in a pilot's flight bag. A conventional flight bag full of paper materials contains an average of 12,000 sheets of paper per pilot.”

Wow, that’s a lot of paper!

Thus don’t be surprised that REDjet Chairman Ian Burns may also be getting the Apple iPad in their operations to reduce fuel consumption and weight, now having gotten approval to fly the Caribbean routes as per my blog article entitled “REDjet Coming in October - CAL's Nicholas III Hunt for Red October”.

Especially now that REDjet is the darling of the Caribbean after receiving its flying wings from CAA (Civil Aviation Authority) of the respective territories who are, coincidentally, stakeholders in CAL (Caribbean Airlines) as stated in the article “REDjet is now the darling of Caribbean aviation”, published Friday August 12 2011, The Jamaica Observer. Ditto for CAL!

Next up for replacement: Subscription Newspapers from The Jamaica Observer and The Jamaica Gleaner as per my blog article entitled “Traditional News Media vs Broadband Telecoms - GigaOM's Avoiding ELE After Deep Impact” here in Jamaica, after REDjet and CAL make the First Class passengers jealous. Par for course, as the US Airways and Continental pilots have probably already figured out how to do that!

As soon as the CAA of the relevant Caribbean Islands approve the testing of the Apple iPad and the Jeppesen Mobile FliteDeck to replace those bulky aviation charts, Tessanne Chin’s Hideaway Style.

Thank you United Airways for believing in my Apple iPad idea!

Griffin Helo TC US$50 Apple iPhone controlled Helicopter – TVJ and CVM TV's Flight of the Navigator

The thing that numbs the heart is this:
That men cannot device
Some scheme of life to banish fear
That lurks in most men’s eyes

James Norman Hall, Fear

Remember the Quadricopter/Augmented Reality (AR) Drone from Parrot as mentioned in the article “AR.Drone helicopter controllable by iPhone”, published JANUARY 7, 2010 2:18 PM PST by Rafe Needleman, CNET News - RAFE'S RADAR. The Apple iPhone controllable toy was intended to be an augmented reality extension for gamers.

Its lackluster battery life of twelve (12) minutes of flight time and ninety (90) minutes to recharge batteries for a price tag of US$299, with battery packs costing US$29.99, however, is a bit too rich for even the most avid RC (Remote Control) fan as stated in my blog article entitled “Broadcasters and The Parrot AR.Drone - Hawaii-Five-0”.

But like most RC toys, it’s concept of using Wi-Fi (IEEE 802.11n) which the Quadricopter/Augmented Reality (AR) Drone generated itself to allow the Apple iPhone user to connect to the device and control it in flight was in itself a brilliant idea. It lent itself to one day making a RC toy controllable via a Telecom Providers EDGE or GRPS Networks, or even via 3G or 4G LTE Broadband, allowing remote controlled flight beyond the visual range of the users.

A potential boon to Broadcasters doing Morning Traffic Reports, both in the US of A and locally here in Jamaica (Television Jamaica and CVM TV, are you listening?) when it comes to doing traffic reports – or for the Jamaica Constabulary Force aka the Jamaican Police to do night Reconnaissance as opined in my blog article entitled “Broadcasters and The Parrot AR.Drone - Hawaii-Five-0”, in which I made the connection to myself. Especially as it comes with its own camera!

So it’s nice to know that someone saw the potential in the idea of a RC toy controlled by the Apple iPhone and improved somewhat upon Parrot’s offering both in price and design. Say hello to the Griffin HELO TC Helicopter which lands in a familiar design to RC enthusiasts and a price even Television Jamaica and CVM TV could afford of US$50 (not including shipping and handling). Take a gander at the pictures folks!

Need I say more!

A few modifications to this badboy, and it could be made to fly under the control of an Apple iPad owned by that fiend Carlette Deleon aka the Pet Tales Chick aka “Dilly” of Television Jamaica or Beauty Queen Regina Beavers aka The Beaver on CVM at Sunrise on CVM TV.

But this time, instead of communicating via short range LOS (Line of Sight) Infrared, a bit of electronics tinkering and software modification get this RC toy to controlled by its Base Controllers i.e. Television Jamaica and CVM TV using the Griffin HELO TC Helicopter app on an Internet Connected Apple iPad, Apple iPhone or Apple iPod Touch.

Griffin HELO TC Helicopter would have a 3G Modem from Telecom Provider LIME or Telecom Provider CLARO (soon to be gobbled up by Telecom Provider Digicel) or WiMax 4G Mobile (IEEE 802.16d, e) Modem Dongle from Telecom Provider Digicel connected to its electronics, allowing it to be controlled beyond LOS and guided via camera.

Its added feature of prerecorded flight paths suggests GPS comes built into this Griffin HELO TC Helicopter  and thus paints a large target on it for Electronics buffs and makes it a target for such hacks, enable it to be sent on errands (lunch anyone!) by itself.

Another toy for Staff Sgt. Christopher Fessenden to have modified by his brother Ernie and Kevin Guy owners of a Hobby Shop in Rochester, Michigan as stated in my blog article entitled “Lockheed Martin SMSS Robotic Mule vs. modified Taxis Stampede Toy Truck - Remote Control Toy Story” and bristling with a boatload of useful reconnaissance gadgets!

And just to keep the Marketing Department of BOTH the Telecom Providers and Broadcasters in the loop, the logos of any sponsors that wish to sponsor the Morning Traffic Reports on Television Jamaica and CVM TV can be affixed to the modified Griffin HELO TC Helicopter as a means of monetizing the concept, with possible Marketing Applications……maybe a small fleet of US$50 Griffin HELO TC Helicopter in this Television Jamaica and CVM TV Flight of the Navigator (1986)!

Television Jamaica and CVM TV, Compliance?
