“We've been preparing the watch
product for so long," We are working very hard to get ready for it. We are
preparing products for the future, and the watch is definitely one of them”
Comments by Executive Vice President of Samsung Mobile
Business Lee Young Hee, during an interview with Bloomberg in Seoul, South
Korea on Tuesday March 19th 2013
The
speculation about the 100-man strong Research and Engineering Team at Apple tinkering
with an iWatch as reported in “iWatch
‘beyond the experimentation phase’ – team of 100 working on Apple
device”, report says, published February 13, 2013 By Trevor Mogg, DigitalTrends and “Apple reportedly has 100-person team working on 'iWatch'”,
published February 12, 2013 6:15 PM PST by Steven Musil, CNET News (‘cause
that what I’m calling it!) made of flexible Corning Willow Glass.
This
bit or rumour-news made me go crazy
and predict such a product this March 2013 as penned in Apple
to debut Apple iWatch in March 2013 – iWant one and iCant Wait.
Now
the news is out an’ about in the Media thanks to Bloomberg as stated in the
article “Samsung
Preparing Wristwatch as It Races Apple for Sales”, published March 19, 2013
12:46 AM ETBy Jungah Lee, Bloomberg that Samsung’s been working on a Smartwatch.
No
concrete details, however despite articles such as “Samsung
wants to get its hands on wristwatch market too”, published March 18, 2013
11:48 PM PDT by Steven Musil, CNET News, have been teased by the Smartphone giant. It’s
safe to say, though, that it’ll be a companion device to the Samsung Galaxy S4
announced in Kelroy’s article Samsung Introduces the
GALAXY S4.
Google’s
Android Team, the same folks that brought us Google Android OS for smartphones
back in 2009, are apparently making one too
as stated in the article “Google
is getting a smartwatch now too?”, published March 21, 2013 9:57 PM PDT by
Dara Kerr, CNET News and “Google
rumored to be working on a Smart Watch, as worldwide obsession continues”,
published March 22, 2013 By Andy Boxall, DigitalTrends.
Again
no details but rumoured news nonetheless from no more reliable an authority
than The Financial Times article entitled “Google is
working on a smart watch, too”, published March 21, 2013 11:24 pm by Tim
Bradshaw, The Financial Times.
So
too is #TeamLG, as the South Korean company’s’ also following Samsung’s lead
and is now planning their own smartwatch to go with their Optimus line of
smartphones according to DigitalTrends
in the article “LG
may be developing its own smartwatch and glasses”, published March 22, 2013
by Joshua Pramis, DigitalTrends.
Not
to be outdone, Microsoft is reported also taking a stab at the Smartphone
market as reported in “Microsoft Mulls a
Smartwatch; Here Are the Company’s Strengths and Weaknesses”, published
April 15, 2013 By Jared Newman, TIME with
their own smartwatch – again, as like Samsung, they’ve been down this road
before.
According
to the Wall Street Journal, Microsoft’s been busy of late, meeting with
component suppliers and nosing about the idea of some sort of wristwatch-esque
device as reported in “Microsoft reportedly
considering selling a smartwatch of its own”, published April 14, 2013 8:22
PM PDT by Steven Musil, CNET News.
I
shall be the first to admit I’m suffering from a serious bout of Apple-it is,
so I’m not feeling so great while doing this article as it makes me sick that
EVERYONE’s trying to stab Apple and Google in the back while making money from
their concepts and ideas.
Basically,
it’s an Intifada or Arab Spring Uprising for the Asian Tiger as they try to
oust Apple and Google even from entering their lucrative TV market by going
after the Smartphone market as per the prediction in the article “Are
Apple and Google Being Forced Out Of TV?”, published 3/08/2013 @ 9:11AM by
Haydn Shaughnessy, Forbes
But
back home in Jamaica as I get grounded, toughing down like a private Lear Jet
on the carpeted hallways and Production Floor of ACCENT Marketing. The pretty
girls looking so fly and dazzle the eye with everything bright and beautiful
and the males dressed like James Bond looking SHARP and Licensed to Kill (1989).
Everywhere
I go in ACCENT Marketing, in the Lunch Room on the 5th Floor or on 3rd
Floor on the SHARP Production Floor (Oops, shouldn’t have said that!), my eyes
pick out a few Apple products cudgeled and clasped close to buxom bosom and
conspicuous under book and poking out of pockets and faces aglow under hoodies among
the Millennial crowd.
The
Charlie’s Angels Crowd at ACCENT Marketing are now sneakily ditching their ol’ Blackberry’s
for Samsung Galaxy smartphones, Blackberry Torch’s and even the occasional
Apple combo of an Apple iPad, iPad Mini and Apple iPhone.
So
much so that back then, I penned my observation of my workmates at ACCENT
Marketing on how to make the transition via making your own Stylus in my Geezam blog article entitled “How
to make a Stylus for your Apple iPad or Capacitive-Touch Device”, I noticed
something else.
I
noticed the rough treatment many were giving their Tablets and smartphones and
thus explained the vagaries of taking care of you “precious” over the Christmas
2012 when these products were on everyone’s wish list in my Geezam blog article “How
to make your own Cleaning Fluid and Cleaning Tips for your Smartphone or Tablet”.
More
recently, I also hand-held many a reader toward jumping the shark towards a
smartphone or Tablet via Transferring your precious personal life Data cargo
via my helpful how-to Geezam blog article entitled
“How
to transfer Phone Contacts and Data from your Blackberry to your Apple iPhone
or Google Android Smartphone or Tablet”.
Now
Apple’s apparently been a little under the weather of late, with mere sneezes
rumours and runny nose patent filings as the “news” slows down to a crawl from
Apple. There’s news of an Apple iRadio as suggested
in the article “Apple's
iRadio service said to be delayed into summer, or longer”, published March
7, 2013 11:50 AM PST by Josh Lowensohn, CNET News and “Hidden
'radio' buttons discovered in Apple's
iOS 6.1”, published February 5, 2013 8:51 AM PST by Josh
Lowensohn, CNET News.
This
as I’d predicted in my Geezam blog article
“Apple
patents Wireless Bluetooth Earbuds as Wireless Bluetooth Speakers take Flight”,
basically iCloud with actual Streaming – not synching - coming to the Apple
iPod Line of Products.
The
Apple iWatch, Apple iRadio product and wearable computer hinges heavily on
great Battery life, preferably in Days and not hours as pontificated in the
article “For
an iWatch to kick butt, Apple must
innovate in batteries”, published February 19, 2013 4:00
AM PST by Josh Lowensohn and Shara Tibken, CNET News.
Apple
needs to also forge as good partnerships for content and accessories, such as
Beat Audio for the Apple iRadio as noted in the article “Cook
reportedly discussed music streaming service with Beats”, published March 5, 2013 9:39 PM PST by Steven Musil, CNET News. It also had to be able to take a
beating too, as them “Young Money” Professionals at my workplace treat gargets
rather poorly.
Battery
Life and SSD Drive Chicken soup’ll combined with a teaspoonful of Low margins
tied in with a subscription Service with Great content Garlic Cough Syrup’ll cure
any electronic Gadget sales issues, as far as I’m concerned. All these
competitors in this new field of Wearable computer need this, as these gadgets,
if not price right, will initially sell only to be put aside and become the
next expensive gadget to gather dust on your desk as electronic paperweight .
But
if the smartwatch Trend catches fire, we’re looking at the next Craze:
smartwatch-smartphone Tango for the Fall of 2013 and stocking-stuffers for
Christmas 2013. The players are all set: Apple, Google, Samsung, LG and now Microsoft.
