Broadcasting and FaceBook - Simon and Simone Pig Farm

When a true genius appears in the world, you may know him by this sign that the dunces are all in a confederacy against him

Swift, Thoughts on Various Subjects

It seems that Simone Clarke-Cooper, or “Tiger Bone Simone” as she is called by my friends at the Bee Hive, the hot and happening trendy Internet CafĂ© on the Baxter Building at the back of Bargain Village Plaza in May Pen, Clarendon where I live, has become delightfully fat with child, literally exploding (very bad pun!) before our eyes on the Television scene, usually reserved for the beautiful people.

Mind you, I am not really sure that she is pregnant, as my claim is based on anecdotal information provided by Simon Crosskill as per the show Smile Jamaica, aired Tuesday July 20th 2010 on Television Jamaica, thus protecting myself from legal action habeus Corpus Christi and whatnot. Rather, it appears that she may well be a bonafide genius.

I say “genius” as on several recent episodes the ravishing svelte plus forty (40) femme fetal on the highly rated Television Jamaica morning show Smile Jamaica (sorry CVM at Sunrise, only Beaver can climb my coconut tree!!) has been of the opinion that Simon Crosskill should borrow some money from the bank and start that Pig Farm that he has always been talking about since the Devil was a Boy, seeing as how the JDX (Jamaica Debt Exchange) now a success.

It is not only resulting in interest rates taking a further tumble on the say-so of the Governor of the Bank Jamaica, Mr. Bran Wynter as stated in the article “BOJ lowers interest rates again”, published Wednesday, August 04, 2010, The Jamaica Observer but also in increased competition in the lending sector.

Recently, it forced one of the Big Three (3) Banks, namely NCB (National Commercial Bank) to lower their base lending rates by three (3) percentage points from 20.75% to 17.75% as stated on Prime Time News, aired Thursday July 25th 2010, Television Jamaica and confirmed in the article “NCB cuts as loan portfolio decline”, published Sunday July 25th 2010, Business Section, The Jamaica Gleaner.

John Public surmises this, since she has become heavy laden, possibly the nutritional value of her food purchases and thus her genius has been turned up a notch, Dragon Ball Z style, inclusive of an exercise regiment, as it is a well known fact that she does have a Nintendo Wii at home, though I have never happened to bump into her online while I am in the Wii Sports Resort at the Bee Hive, a video game version of Second Life.

Good also here to note that John Public of late, has been playing emulated versions of the aforementioned video games on my PC, with a Windows Compliant Nintendo Wii Wand controller.

Eventually, Microsoft, which has debut the Microsoft Kinect for US$100 at E3 (Electronics Entertainment Expo) earlier this year, may do well to consider porting this accessory to PC’s as well, as it has applications that may “jazz up” the sales and adoption of Windows 7 and Office 2010, both experiencing lackluster sales due to a lack of anything new coupled with their products.

So she is a genius, like John Public, which comes as no surprise, as geniuses do not necessarily act intelligent, as we geniuses are Knowledge Inside, like the Intel commercial, which as chance would have it, is pushing its LightPeak fiber optic standard as stated in the article “Intel's Light Peak: One PC cable to rule them all”, published September 23, 2009 12:54 PM PDT by Stephen Shankland, CNET News - Deep Tech.

The confederacy of dunces at her station workplace FAME 95 FM is indeed evident on her music programme.

Her offer of assistance to Simon Crosskill to help him build his Pig Farm has now even been extended to even partnering with him, more sign of her hidden genius as pork is currently the fastest selling meat in Jamaica.

Despite Seventh Day Adventist and their anti-pork brigade, like the Salem Witch Trials, sniffing about with their rumor congeners to find out if you have eaten pork………when you just saw them down the road.

Simon and Simone (sounds like the title of a show, does it not?) also engage in games and are now such good friends that they drink from each other’s cups, also marked “Simon” and “Simone”.

I guess what in my cup is in your cup, as per the Ritchie Loops song “My Cupp”. Their FaceBook page is also a delight and usually my sanguine commentary on all things technological is posted on this page, as my strict rule when online is not to make friends with people outside of Clarendon or Glenmuir High, as friends outside of Clarendon, John Public does not keep.

However, with the advent of FaceBook Games, it appears that Smile Jamaica can capitalize on this desire by Simon Crosskill and Simone Clarke-Cooper’s offer of assistance, by simply creating a game on FaceBook, called……….and this should be obvious……….Simon and Simone’s Pig Farm!

The game can be easily designed by the Developer Team from Panmedia, who recently designed the now popular Digicel BlackBerry Bonanza, a FLASH-based FaceBook game on Digicel’s FaceBook page that is all the rage with the online community as stated in the article “Digicel Launches Panmedia Designed Game”, published Monday, 07 June 2010 by TechJamaica.com.

Television Jamaica, the Television station arm for the RJR Communication Group, could use this genius brainstorm by Simone Clarke-Cooper as a branding opportunity for the Smile Jamaica show and its captivating silliness, to promote the show even when Smile Jamaica program has ended each morning.

By engaging its “like-ees” or followers in a game that get them to raise piglets sows and boers on an interactive Pig Farm, with guest celebrity appearance by Simon Crosskill and Simone Clarke-Cooper as Pig Farm Manager and Pig Farm Second Lieutenant respectively.

Neville Bell and the ever sugar-induced Carlette Deleon aka the Pet Tales Chick aka “Dilly” of Television Jamaica (ta-daa!!) can double in cameo appearance as Pig Commander and Pig Captain respectively, another playful feature of this game: everybody’s job title starts with the word “Pig”.

The game is basically Simone Clarke-Cooper’s suggestion brought to life, and can be seen as a knock-off of Farmville, but with a twist, as the players of the game are on one large interactive farm and not separate adjoining farms as is the case in another popular game Diner Dash.

The aim is simple: keep the pigs happy, raise more piglets by selectively breeding sows and boers and do odd jobs around the farm to expand the size of the farm in a co-operative community effort.

The environment is an interactive one, with Simon and Simone’s avatars dropping every now and then to chat and give words of encouragement, effectively allowing fans of the hosts to meet and greet the Television personalities in real-time and talk to them in real-time either via an integrated pop-up balloon IM (Instant Messenger) chat integrated into the game or with optional VoIP chat service. But here is the clincher. In the game, there will be game elements with advertising branding affixed to them.

To gain points, you have to click on as many of the game elements with advertising logos affixed as you can, which can include pigs. Each time you click on an advert, it is registered as an advertising hit, and each hit is counted as a targeted delivery of the advertisement.

This is effectively a form of Behavioral Targeted Advertising as stated in the article “Study: Like it or not, behavioral ad targeting works”, published March 24, 2010 9:01 AM PDT by Caroline McCarthy, CNET News – The Social for which the Television Jamaica would earn the game player 100 points and pay out JA$100 to the player or a 10% of the cost of each advertisement based on click metrics.

In addition, players in the game can earn additional money via doing Marketing Surveys for the respective advertiser and their products, also garnering JA$100. At the end of a thirty (30) day cycle, the game players are paid their winning portion of the advertising money, but payouts are controlled so that the total payout does not exceed 10% of the advertising revenue for each advertisement, based on click metrics.

Special offers could be added into the game so that persons can win goodie bags of prizes, ranging from mobile phones credit to baskets of goodies, all as prizes for making Simon Crosskill and Simone Clarke-Cooper happy by being good pig farmers, working as a team on tasks and supporting the advertisers.

You can even get to kill and eat some of your produce online and sell some to fellow competitors or Pig Rearers to gain more money, each sale costing JA$100.Thats right! Actual money, a first for any online game anywhere……….and no credit card needed, as the purchase cost is deducted from the money you earn virtually by clicking on ads and doing surveys.

Albeit the pigs in Simon and Simone’s Pig Farm are virtual and are not real, the money for the game players in this FaceBook game is very real, and is definitely a surefire way of getting people to not only visit and join the FaceBook page, but also watch the Smile Jamaica show in the morning for special giveaways on the FaceBook page, a win-win situation for Television Jamaica and advertisers.

It would also be a spur for more Developers to follow the Developer Team from Panmedia into this lucrative arena of application design and game design and an incentive for more advertisers to advertise on Smile Jamaica.

It would also increase branding placement advertisements in Simon and Simone’s Pig Farm, as getting people to register and do formal Marketing Surveys is usually an expensive affair that this game would virtualize and make paperless, not to mention a game that reflects the true genius of Simone Clarke-Cooper, Knowledge Inside.

But wait……….if you had a barcode scanner on your computer, or even better you could use your optical mouse coupled with the correct software to submit products as requested by the game or even purchase items advertised in the game……or even an Intergalactic Pig Rescue Mission……but that is grist for the mill, another article, another time.

Apple iPad and Fiber Optic - Twilight Saga Eclipse

Hail holy light, offspring of heav’n firstborn!

Milton, Paradise Lost, III

Happy Independence day to Jamaica!

The Summer of 2010 has just started and there is still no end in sight to the “silly season” of new products and services – and the controversy surrounding the apparently too-secure-for-government Blackberry from RIM, which Governments now have realized is too secure for its own good.

First UAE (United Arab Emirates), now Saudi Arabia this Friday August 6th 2010, the EU is scratching its Recession hit head and India, having banned it prior, is mulling doing it again.

Now add Indonesia to that growing list as stated in the article “Indonesia joins countries mulling BlackBerry ban”, published Wednesday August 4, 5:28 pm ET By NINIEK KARMINI, Associated Press Writer, Yahoo! News.

Blackberry was also banned it back in 2008, due to poor Customer Service. Indeed, it is a trifle odd, all this sudden concern over the Blackberry, but it is now all that recent, as many countries have had run-ins in the past, but have patched things up with RIM.

This time the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has a point of duty to protect its citizens from terrorism.

Saudi Arabia band Blackberry – Terrorism is a daily reality for the Kingdom

Terrorism is a very real threat that seems to be a follow-on (cricket pun intended!!) with respect to recent activity on the United States of America Homeland.

I’m of course referring to the failed bombing plot in New York Time Square by alleged bomb plotter, Faisal Shahzad as stated in the article “US lawmakers target pre-paid cell phone anonymity”, published Wednesday 26-05-2010, AFP, Yahoo! News.

This is a wakeup call to the Government of the United States of America as it relates to the ease with which Pre-Paid phones can be purchased by Muslim Extremist supporters. Then can use these Prepaid phones to plan Bombing attempts without requiring the customer to register using approved Government of the United States of America registration i.e. Social Security check using ones Credit Card.

The United States of America now requires that all Prepaid Mobile Phones, Phone Instruments (mobile, fixed line mobile, landline or wired /wireless modems) IMEI and SIM Cards (mobile, fixed line mobile, landline or wired /wireless modems) IMSI be duly registered. This makes the defense of RIM by Senator Hillary Clinton, Secretary of State to the United States of America of a Canadian company, look odd.

In Saudi Arabia’s eyes it justifies security concerns of International spying, so close on the heels of the recent Spy swap between former Cold War adversaries the Government of United States of America and the Government of Federation of Russia.

Interesting coincidences……..but I got some more!

USA Registering Prepaid phones – Preventative measure against terrorists in the Homeland

Interestingly, the Americans are actually following the Government of Mexico and the Government of Jamaica respectively.

The Government of Mexico requiring all persons to register their mobile phones using their Clave Unica de Registro de Poblacion (CURP) [CURP, in English]. The CURP is the universal identification number in Mexico enabling them to shut down nearly twenty five million, nine hundred thousand (25,900,000) mobile phone shut down back in the week of April 11 2010.

An unprecedented move for any country, but given the scale of their Narcotics Trade, a necessary one. Jamaica, after its own “Dudus Gate” which saw Tivoli Gardens invaded to capture alleged strongman Christopher “Dudus” Coke and later imposing two back-to-back States of Emergency in June and July 2010, also has a spiraling crime problem, mainly exacerbated by the ease with which criminals can communicate.

Senator Dwight Nelson, Minister of National Security and Justice is thus mulling the same thing as the Government of Mexico in the form of forcing Jamaican to register their mobile using the relevant approved Government of Jamaica identification i.e. National ID, Passport, Driver’s License, Birth Certificate, a measure which he refers to as MRSI (Mandatory Registration of Subscriber Information).

This is a precursor to the much vaulted MNP (Mobile Number Portability), both measures that Telecom Provider CLARO alone supports as stated in the article “CLARO Backs Cell Phone Tracking Plan; Digicel, LIME in Wait-And-See Mode”, published Sunday May 16, 2010 by Mark Titus, Business Reporter, the Sunday Gleaner, good PR necessary to distinguish themselves from the pack of money-greedy Telecom Providers.

Apple iPhone 4 and Apple iPad – Camera and Wi-Fi Direct coming with next iteration

But this Summer of 2010 is unlike no other, as it is dominated by the Apple iPhone 4.0 and Apple iPad, its Fanboys and its slew of would-be Assassins. This is inclusive of Captain Ahab in the guise of Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer who is yet to be definitive in what Microsoft plans to debut as its Apple iPad killer.

Curiously, most of these challengers seem to be going after perceived weaknesses in the Apple iPad as stated in the article “Motorola and Verizon Plan Cable-TV-Watching Tablet”, published Wednesday August 4, 2:07 pm ET by Barry Levine, newsfactor.com, Yahoo! News.

They will all fail, as Apple is taking its own sweet time to upgrade, or as they call it refresh, their products.

The  ever busy and ceaselessly toiling Engineers at Apple in their little secret bunker may decide to include a front facing camera and thus FaceTime to the next generation of Apple iPad as stated in the article “Report: Next iPad likely to include camera”, published August 3, 2010 10:47 AM PDT by Lance Whitney, CNET News.

A sure-fire hit no matter what innovations the other would-be Apple iPad assassins arm themselves with, Apple’s “Gadgety Goodness” even defying the logical draw of lower pricing.

There is some truth to the need to penetrate the Television space, the last unconquered frontier for Apple having attempted with their DVR (Digital Video Recorder) the Apple TV, and curiously an early suggestion from yours truly back in 2003.

Google is also interested as well, planting their claim firmly with their Google TV offering. This is much to the delight of its advertising partners as stated in the article “Google tries where others failed: shaking up TV biz” published Tuesday August 25th 2010 by Yinka Adegoke and Jennifer Saba, Associated Press Writer, Yahoo! News.

But it is another innovation that Apple Engineers are alleged to have up their sleeve and that is the possibility that the next iteration of the Apple iPad may be supporting WiGiG and Wi-Fi Direct.

Hopefully (fingers crossed), the ultra fast fiber optic connectivity standard from Intel, LightPeak, Heaven’s Holy Light.

But a bit of history first………….

How Apple can power Wi-Fi and WiGig – Solar Power to power Wi-Fi Direct

Apple’s vocal stance against Adobe Flash and its demonstrated blocking of Adobe in the new iPhone 4.0 OS as stated in the article “Adobe scraps work to bring Flash apps to iPhone”, published April 21, 2010 2:53 AM PDT by Stephen Shankland, CNET News.

Apple’s support for HTML 5 and Wi-Fi (IEEE 802.11n) is well known.

Solar power is definitely coming to all of its products in its Fall of 2010 line-up in refreshes for the Apple iPod Nano, iPod Shuffle, Apple iPod Touch and Apple iPod as well as its Summer of 2011 Debut as stated in the article “Apple eyes gadgets with built in solar panels”, published January 22, 2010 7:46 AM PST by Martin LaMonica, CNET News.

There is even talk of making their products location aware to push advertising as GloPos. GloPos is a Technology start-up run by a pair of Telecom Provider veterans Mikael Vainio and Alexander Le Bell with decades long experience from Nokia and Ericsson and their single tower sans GPS tracking technology can be readily integrated into their products.

This removes the need to place bulky power draining GPS modules in the Apple iPod Nano, iPod Shuffle, Apple iPod Touch and the grand-daddy of them all, the Apple iPod and instead placing a GSM or CDMA module.

Solar power could be used to power the processor under ambient lighting conditions, based on research by the Japanese to function when there is no power as stated in the article “Report: Asian firms eye alternative to Intel”, published September 9, 2009 3:00 PM PDT by Brooke Crothers, CNET News - Nanotech - The Circuits Blog.

Use of Wi-Fi (IEEE 802.11n) the latest Wi-Fi standard for now and the foreseeable future as stated in the article “802.11n Wi-Fi standard finally approved”, published September 11, 2009 5:33 PM PDT by Dong Ngo, CNET News is to be baked into all of its products lines.

Support for the seven (7) gigabits per second wireless WiGIG protocol developed by the Wireless Gigabit Alliance may also coming to the Apple iPad.

WiGiG is a wireless replacement for transfers of video and audio between multimedia devices such as HDTV screens and Blu-Ray players and computers as stated in the article “WiGiG Group finalizes new wireless standard”, published December 11 2009 by Lance Whitney, CNET News.

WiGiG will run over the unlicensed frequency of 60 GHz spectrum, and will compete with proprietary standards WirelessHD and Wireless Home Digital Interface (WHDI).

The Apple iPad may now be able to seek out and connecting wirelessly to the nearest LG, Panasonic, Samsung and Sony WiGiG compatible HDTV 3-D set in the room using an onscreen gesture.

This is somewhat reminiscent of Iron Man (2008), as all four (4) currently support WiGiG and will be rolling out the service as stated in the article “Samsung, Panasonic start selling 3-D TV's this week”, published Tuesday March 9 2010, 11:04 am ET, By PETER SVENSSON, AP Technology Write, Associated PressYahoo! News.

Apple AR Glasses accessory – Multi-Tough Air Gestures to make the screen obsolete

The Apple iPhone 5.0 will possibly have a new accessory in the form of sunglasses tethered to the Apple iPhone 5.0 via Wi-Fi Direct, a firmware upgrade to Wi-Fi (IEEE 802.11n) protocol that turns any Wi-Fi modem into a Wi-Fi Hotspot.

This would make it possible to create mesh networks for mobile phones………an introduction for another idea of mine to be dealt with at a later date.

For now, Wi-Fi Direct is supported by such tech heavyweights as Cisco, Intel and Apple as well as the motley crue of almost three hundred (300) manufacturers that produce Wi-Fi (IEEE 802.11n) protocol complaint products as stated in the article “Wi-Fi is about to Get a Whole Lot Easier”, published October 14, 2009, 12:01AM EST By Olga Kharif, BusinessWeek.

This firmware upgrade will enable the customized sunglasses, preferably a stylish transitional rimless glasses provided by a partnership with Miu Miu or Dolche Gabbana, which have wireless connectivity via Wi-Fi Direct built in with its lenses, to go opaque and bring up a HUD (Heads Up Display) Screen.

This is reminiscent of the glasses worn by a female femme fetale in the movie G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra (2009) or even the movie Johnny Mnemonic (1995) effectively a form of augmented reality as stated in the article “Augmented Reality goes Mobile”, published November 3, 2009, 12:44AM EST by Rachael King, BusinessWeek.

Making air gestures of the multi-touch gestures that already exist a new catch-phrase within Apple. Its display would probably be in 3-D as well and the sunglasses would have also a magnetometer, an accelerometer and built in 5 Mega pixel camera.

Most likely, it would be an optional hands-free accessory for the Apple iPhone 5.0.

Apple and Lightpeak – Bi-directional Fiber optic cables

But here is the nice part.

The Apple iPad, though, may also have an optional bi-directional fiber optic cable standard connector called LightPeak. This would allow users to connect and transfer data from external devices, following on the recently slimmed down and re-christened Xbox 360 with Kinect packing a Fiber Optic Port.

This standard was created and supported by Intel for consumer electronics mainly aimed at computers and large portable external harddrives connections.

It could act as a replacement of all physical ports such as Serial, Parallel, USB, FireWire and even HDMI as stated in the article “Intel's Light Peak: One PC cable to rule them all”, published September 23, 2009 12:54 PM PDT by Stephen Shankland, CNET News.

LightPeak will support speeds as high as 10GBps as demonstrated September 2009 at the Intel Developer Forum held in San Francisco, California.  In the next five (5) years, that speed will be bumped up to 100GBps.

As such all devices that connect to the Apple iPad will have to connect with either the LightPeak or WiGiG standard and transfer data at these rates, requiring much faster RAM (Random Access Memory) or Primary Memory.

Future hard drives in terabyte sizes compact hard drive and main memory will be the same memory area, with memory allocated based on software needs.

But most importantly, the coming of fiber optic ports will render CD, DVD and Blu-Ray’s obsolete worldwide, signaling a tremendous blow to piracy, with hard drive storage devices that uses encrypted WiGiG and LightPeak.

Especially with the advent of video game streaming services such as Steam and OnLive as stated in the article “OnLive game streaming service to start in June”, published Wednesday March 10, 3:19 pm ET by Barbara Ortutay, AP Technology Writer, Associated PressYahoo! News.

Apple Competition in smartphones and Tablets – Smartphone’s means more bandwidth needed

With the proliferation of competition due to the Apple iPhone 4.0 evident from its growing popularity based on news of component shortage as stated in the article “The Summer of the smart phone Shortages”, published July 13, 2010 4:00 AM PDT by Marguerite Reardon, CNET News, mobile phone manufacturers are stepping up their game.

The Apple iPad Effect and the coming to pass of the prediction that the Apple iPad would cannibalize the Netbook market as stated in the article “ Netbook Sales Sag as the iPad Arrives” published April 7, 2010, 12:27AM EST By Cliff Edwards, CNET News.

Apple also jumped from being the number seven (7) to number three (3) in the world in terms of portable Netbooks as stated in the article “iPad pushes Apple into the top mobile ranks”, published August 2, 2010 9:20 PM PDT by Brooke Crothers, CNET News.

This thanks to three million, three hundred thousand (3,300,000) strong sales since the debut of the Apple iPad on the weekend of Saturday April 3rd and Sunday April 4th 2010 AD.

This makes the ambitions plans for Net Neutral National Broadband Plan by FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski as stated in the article “A conversation with FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski”, published March 23, 2010 8:45 PM PDT by Molly Wood, CNET News seem a bit outdated.

The expected surge in  usage from customers for 3G, 4G, be it LTE and WiMax 4G Mobile (IEEE 802.16d) and Wi-Fi (IEEE 802.11n) Data mimicking Wired Broadband Usage as stated in the article “Can 4G wireless take on traditional broadband?”, published March 22, 2010 4:00 AM PDT by Marguerite Reardon, CNET News is here now.

Telecom Provider Verizon has gotten their wish and my bets are that they will soon start feeling the strain of the increased traffic due to the data hogs. They have left Telecom Provider AT&T and jumped onto Telecom Provider Verizon bandwagon with the Motorola Droid X and the Motorola Droid Incredible.

These are two potential Apple iPhone Killers on the most beloved Telecom Provider in the United States of America.

Apple and Whit Space Frequencies – White Spaces and Fiber Optic for faster Broadband worldwide

Apple Devices using the soon-to-be available TV and radio spectrums is also possible as stated in the article “TV white space Networks tested”, published February 24, 2010 4:06 PM PST by Marguerite Reardon, CNET News - Signal Strength

Thus the future, now forever changed by the introduction of this new Apple device, the Apple iPad and its effect on computer architecture and the next Great Apple Gadget is summarized in a few simple words:

1.      High speed wireless and wired connections both between computer
2.      ISP (Internet Service Provider) with 100MBps speed Data Transfers
3.      An emphasis on energy efficiency using solar power,
4.      Portable design common ultra fast memory area for RAM
5.      Hard drives counted in terabytes and Universal High Speed Internet 100 Mbps or more
Telecoms would be finally catching up with the rest of the world.

And hopefully Jamaica would have gone DSO as stated in the article “Slow road to Digital Switch-Over - Cable groups mum; FLOW ahead but Network coverage behind”, published Saturday August 15, 2009 by Mark Titus, The Jamaica Gleaner.

Ditto for MNP (Mobile Number Portability) would have occurred in 2010 as stated in the article “OUR signals policy shift on portability - Says Jamaica running out of phone numbers”, published Friday November 20, 2009 by Mark Titus, The Jamaica Gleaner.

Hopefully, by then, Jamaica will start catching up to the Ultra Fast future that is mostly Fiber Optic, the Holy Light, heaven’s Offspring.

Google and Google Me - How the West was Won

The lunatic, the lover, and the poet
Are of imagination all compact;

Shakespeare, A Midsummer-Night’s Dream, V, 1

Call me Ishamael. After what seemed to be a bit of a rough path for the Internet Search Giant, one thing is now certain for the Summer of 2010: Everybody loves Google, best described in the short prose up on yonder, at the end of the day, it seems. When the Remains of the Day are counted, Google now smells like a rose.

Everybody loves Google over Bing as stated in the article “Survey: Linux users love Google, ignore Bing”, published August 21, 2009 9:08 AM PDT by Matt Asay, CNET News - The Open Road, albeit Google is beginning to look more and more like Bing as Bing’s intuitive search results begin to gain traction, a worrying trend.

Also the Google Chrome, the web browser, though a success in its own right, will not be seeing its cousin, the pie-in-the-sky cloud based Google Chrome OS on Netbooks as Google has planned as stated in the article “Google Chrome OS could shake up PC Market”, published Wednesday June 2 2010, 2:11 PM by Jeff Bertolucci, Yahoo News.

This as the Apple iPad Effect has effectively killed the Netbook and now the Laptop as the prediction that the Apple iPad would kill the Netbook market as stated in the article “ Netbook Sales Sag as the iPad Arrives” published April 7, 2010, 12:27AM EST By Cliff Edwards, CNET News - COMPUTERS.

This seems to be bearing fruit as stated in the article “Apple ponders iPad cannibalization of PC's”, published July 20, 2010 8:43 PM PDT, by Brooke Crothers, CNET News Nanotech - The Circuits Blog.

The much castigated Apple, is now number three (3) in the world behind only Hewlett-Packard and Acer in terms of Global Unit Share, leaping over Asus, Lenovo, Toshiba and Dell based on the utterances of Deutsche Bank analyst Chris Whitmore, a Blogger for Fortune Magazine on the Apple 2.0 Blog as stated in the article “iPad pushes Apple into the top mobile ranks”, published August 2, 2010 9:20 PM PDT by Brooke Crothers, CNET News - Nanotech The Circuits Blog.

It I also confirmed by the article “Apple: We're No. 3, We're No. 3!”, published August 3, 2010 10:20am by Eric Benderoff, Appolocious, Yahoo News, a position it gained by selling three million, three hundred thousand (3,300,000) plus Apple iPad’s since the debut of the Apple iPad on the weekend of Saturday April 3rd and Sunday April 4th 2010 AD. That is some White Whale!!

Computer manufacturers are now going full tilt into developing iPad-esque knockoffs or Apple iPad Assassins as John Public likes to call them in their various skunk works, laboratories and bunkers scattered across Silicon Valley.

Interestingly, India, King of Reverse Engineering and redesigning First World Gadget for a Third World Market, is now building a US$35 Tablet built from one circuit board with integrated processor, memory and cameras and using a SD Memory Card as a Hard drive

A surefire Apple iPad killer on the basis of cost alone as stated in the article “India unveils prototype of US$35 taplet computer”, published Friday July 23 2010 by ERIKA KINETZ, AP Business Writer, Yahoo News.

It is cheaper than Nicholas Negroponte principal founder of the MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology's) Media Lab in 2005, One Laptop Per Child Program, which is now crowing success in getting people to read and even allowing children to teach their parents to read as stated in the article “Negroponte: You really can give a kid a laptop”, published August 6, 2010 11:28 AM PDT by Ina Fried, CNET News - Beyond Binary.

To get children in Third World countries access to computers, Negroponte needs to think a bit more innovatively and cost effectively as to how he fabricates his next project, which ironically is a Tablet PC, as already he has competition from India, which has set its sights on making the Tablet PC drop to even dizzying lows of US$10.

Surprisingly, it was the overpriced US$100 laptops under the One Laptop per Child Program that eventually morphed into the popular Netbooks that drove the adoption of 3G Internet on Telecom Provider AT&T 3G Broadband Networks

Google, LG Electronics, Hewlett-Packard, Dell and their currently popular Dell Streak and now Microsoft and CEO Steve Ballmer’s announcement of a Tablet PC as stated in the article “Microsoft takes aim at Tablet market”, published Friday July 30th 2010 by Christopher Null, Technology Writer, Yahoo News are now in full flight after the runaway train that is the Apple iPad, ironically my idea based on just simply making the Apple iPhone, already a popular product, bigger and throwing in a dash of controversy here and there to generate a little buzz.

Even the usually aloof and publicity shy RIM is now playing catch-up with its recently launched spanking new BlackBerry 9800 Torch, a capacitive touch screen slider with traditional QWERTY keyboard, a SENSE UI Google Android-esque interface on a US$199 two (2) year contract on Telecom Provider AT&T Network.

This as stated in the article “RIM looks to make a splash with US$199 touchscreen BlackBerry Torch”, published Tuesday August 3 2010 by Ben Patterson, Technology WriterYahoo News and confirmed by the article “RIM unveils new BlackBerry to counter iPhone”, published Tuesday August 3 2010 by Sinead Carew, Associated Press, Yahoo News.

Now running behind Captain Ahab……..er, I mean Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer………… as EVERYONE is chasing after the White Whale cum Apple iPad, with RIM BlackPad as the harpoon with which RIM intends to kill Captain Ahab’s White Whale first stated in the article “RIM said to plan Tablet for november to Take on Apple's iPad”, published Friday July 30 2010 by Hugo Miller, BusinessWeek.

Arrg, Arrg, me hearties [Pirate talk] !!

But like poor little Ishmael, I, the Developer and Blogger, pause, chomping on my chocolate pipe, mulling, pausing to reflect on the Remains of the Day. Unlike RIM and its current problems with the Middle East and Far East, The People’s Republic of China is in love with Google again, if not in bed with them.

Note that I said “unlike RIM”, as Google has unwittingly co-operated with the People’s Republic of China by plastering the URL to their Hong Kong page in full view instead of automatically re-routing search requests.

Thus satisfying the Chinese Authorities as it relates to being able to track and spy on dissidents as slyly alluded in the article “Google fine-tunes its China weather vane”, published July 9, 2010 9:47 AM PDT by Tom Krazit, CNET News - Relevant Results.

The People’s Republic of China still censors traffic though, but then Google needs the People’s Republic of China to grow.

Ditto for Apple, FaceBook, Twitter and other Silicon Valley players, all wanting a piece of the action in this fully literate, hard working society with cash to splash as well as in the Federation of Russia, Korea and Japan. The United Kingdom also loves Google again.

The Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), the United Kingdom’s privacy pooch, sniffed around at Google rear end and declared, rather charmingly, that they found nothing more than fragments of data, mostly IP Addresses and the name of the Wi-Fi (IEEE 802.11n) hotspots collected as stated in the article “UK.: Privacy abuse unlikely in Google Street View flap”, published July 28, 2010 7:21 AM PDT by Tom Espiner, CNET News - Privacy Inc. which any Network Administrator could have told them, Google StreetView being another of my brainstorms and mapping Wi-Fi (IEEE 802.11n) a bandwidth freeloader or war-driver’s dream.

Thus John Public wonders when will the Media get Tech Savvy, as this now appearing to be another case of the Media blowing the situation out of proportion for a quick buck and some paper sales, akin to the Black Sabbath of CEO Steve Jobs and the External Loop Antenna (WWII German Design!!) on the Apple iPhone 4.0, for which there is a simple ceramic deposition solution……… for another article, of course.

Developers for the Google Android love Google even more, now that Google has responded to demands to improve security on the Google Android OS Mobile Platform to protect them from side loaders and bootleggers of unauthorized apps [piracy] as stated in the article “Google licensing changes could cap Android piracy”, published July 28, 2010 1:31 PM PDT by Jessica Dolcourt, CNET News - Android Atlas.

Mobile Handset Providers love Google even more this Summer of 2010, their sweaty palms greased with advertising money, their pockets lined with cash from the new mobile ad sharing deal with the Search Behemoth as stated in the article “Google sharing mobile ad cash with partners?”, published March 26, 2010 9:51 AM PDT by Tom Krazit, CNET News - Relevant Results in order to adopt the Google Android Platform

They have and are now experiencing an explosion in sales as it relates to their mobile phones as stated in the article “Smart phone shipments jump 43 percent”, published July 22, 2010 12:34 PM PDT by Lance Whitney, CNET News – Wireless

This evident from its growing popularity based on news of component shortage as stated in the article “The summer of the smart phone shortage”, published July 13, 2010 4:00 AM PDT by Marguerite Reardon, CNET News - Signal Strength and confirmed by the article “HTC Evo 4G, Incredible shortages make room for Droid X”, published Monday July 12 2010 by Jared Newman, CNET News.

Most of all, Advertisers love Google, with such initiatives as Google AdWords for marketing campaigns and Google AdSense, a click-metrics based Platform tailored for advertisers, their main bread and butter, now with clickable-callable phone numbers shown in search results on computers and mobile phones as stated in the article “Call more businesses from Google on your smart phone”, published March 2, 2010 12:53 PM PST by Jessica Dolcourt, CNET News - iPhone Atlas.

Like any growing business, Google is diversifying into other areas not related to search, hence:
  1. Its move to handle its Global Cash pile as stated in the article “Google's Latest Launch: Its Own Trading Floor”, published May 27, 2010, 5:00PM EST, By Douglas MacMillan, BusinessWeek - TECHNOLOGY
  2. Alternative Energy, White Spaces Mapping as stated in the article “Google wants to build 'white spaces' database”, published January 4, 2010 5:54 PM PST by Tom Krazit, CNET News - Relevant Results
  3. Experimentation with Next Generation Fiber Optics as stated in the article “Google subsidizing ultrafast broadband test”, published February 10, 2010 8:58 AM PST, by Stephen Shankland, CNET News - Deep Tech
  4. A long term strategy to shake up the lucrative Mobile Smart Phones business as stated in the article “Google's mobile hopes go beyond Nexus One”, published January 5, 2010 5:24 PM PST by Tom Krazit, CNET News - Relevant Results
  5. Television with Advertisers having their back as it relates to interactive targeted advertising as stated in the article “Advertisers give Google TV a warm Reception”, published May 24, 2010, 1:12AM EST, By Olga Kharif, BusinessWeek  - INTERNET, and confirmed in the article “Google tries where others failed: shaking up the TV Biz”, published Tuesday May 25 2010 by Yinka Adegoke and Jennifer Saba, The Associated Press, CNET News.

Equation to remember: Google = Lots of Money for shareholders!!

But there is one arena, despite Google’s reputed engineering prowess, that Google has largely failed: Social Networking. They have largely failed with Google Wave as stated in article “Google pulls plug on Google Wave”, published August 4, 2010 2:35 PM PDT by Ina Fried and Josh Lowensohn, CNET News - Beyond Binary

This is largely because their engineers are not Social-savvy, as the build-and-they-will-come philosophy that powered Google thus far does not work in the Social Networking Sphere, effectively the “New Internet” as far as some people are concerned, spending all their time playing the uber-addictive Farmville, as is the SOLE pre-occupation of most of my friends on FaceBook.

Also, their lack of understanding the basic “Social Skills”, that being forming your Social Network based on people who are ACTUALLY friends and then base the Social Network around a common connection was glaringly evident as stated in the article “Google struggles with Social skills”, published February 3, 2010 4:00 AM PST by Caroline McCarthy and Tom Krazit, CNET News - Digital Media.

This despite its auspicious and over bloated AOL-esque ambitions as stated in the article “Will Google's wave Replace e-mail - and FaceBook?”, published October 4, 2009, 8:30PM EST, By Olga Kharif, BusinessWeek – INTERNET.

It is thus also sad too that Google killed DodgeBall, a close relative of FourSquare except SMS (Short Messaging Service) or Text Messaging Based Geo-location service, as that actually still has potential as a Mobile Social Network, as Digicel Brown Dawg, a Mobile Social Network I had designed for Telecom Provider Digicel, is based on DodgeBall.

Apparently, the Engineers at Google did Socialize very well or worse, unlike yours truly, John Public, did not keep a diary of all of your High School friends and how they Socialize and any ideas that they came up with, only to later end up being their FaceBook buddies and give them away over time. Whatever.

Thus I shall get to the point. Google has created, based on my advice and prognostications and much chastisement in early April of 2009, a Social Network called Google Buzz. Google Buzz is a UI (User Interface) tweak to Google Mail (Gail) as stated in the online news report CNET Buzz Report aired February 11th2010 by Molly Wood, Executive Editor, CNET News (CBS) which on the face of it, is really a copy of Yahoo UI (User Interface) tweak that integrates their Yahoo! Messenger into Yahoo! Email.

But it goes a step further by including a posting and interactive UI similar to Face book, micro-blogging with one hundred and twenty (120) character text structure like Twitter and geo-location features like FourSquare, a start up which people have been suggesting AT&T should purchase.

This as their Social Network is heavily tied to GPS (Global Positioning Satellite) mobile phones such as Blackberrys, Apple iPhones and Google Android smart phones, all of which depend on the Customer or Subscriber having a 3G Data Plan on their network as slyly proposed in the article “Time for AT&T to buy FourSquare”, published April 26, 2010 9:14 AM PDT by Matt Asay, CNET News - The Open Road.

So far it has been wildly successful. This has a better fit into the Social Networking Scene, as it is actually follows the above mentioned trends of all successful Social Networks:

  1. Facebook (for organized people)
  2. Twitter (for disorganized spur-of-the-moment types)
  3. Digg (for news hounds)
  4. Hi5 (for those cheerleader support types)
  5. FourSquare (for people who like to track their friends on smart phones)
  6. Tagged (for people looking for casual sex) – and the recently launched and now successful Google Buzz (for lovers of all things Google!)

Despite the recent privacy debacle which has worked to Google’s advantage as stated in the article " Buzz Backfire: How Google pushed me to Facebook" published March 5, 2010 4:00 AM PST  by Stephen Shankland, CNET News - Deep Tech, effectively a mirror of society with interconnections between people being displayed in a Digital format, but requires a little controversy to be the spark that creates interest in the first place, much in the same way Socializing in the real world works.

What all these Networks have as their “secret sauce” that I had previously mentioned: they are all built on groupings of people who have something in common in terms of their personalities or who are just simply friends sharing the commonality of each other company in a Digital space – much as it is in real life. My idea for Google, Google Buzz, has hit the ground running, but Google is looking for something with more “oomph!”. Just so happens I have just the thing, and it has a bit of a technological ring to it, much to the delight of the Engineers at Google.

The information being harvested about the users of the Social Networks in terms of their advertising preferences, their “likes” and “dislikes”, what products they support and about what they converse while connected to the Social Network is extremely valuable and is worth billions of dollars to Advertisers and Marketing people, especially if the Social Networking Site has geo-location services baked in, opening up the possibility of geo-location based advertising.

It is an accepted trade-off of the users of most Social Networks, especially as it allows users to access the Social Networks services for free and the behavior of most users is nonchalant with regards to their privacy, as most people who have grown up with the Internet and are used to the informal nature of interaction on the Internet are a lot less concerned about their privacy, as stated by Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg in the article “Why no one cares about privacy anymore”, published  March 12, 2010 4:00 AM PST by Declan McCullagh CNET News - Politics and Law.

Ostensibly, Social Networks collects this information on each user with the users permission and using Behavioral Targeted Marketing can more efficiently deliver advertisement placements to a users webpage or mobile device based on his “likes” or “dislikes” and other pertinent information that the Social Network may have about the member, who is also a potential customer for the products and services chosen to be advertised on their page or referred to via geo-location based advertising.

Indeed, a new study from a group called the NAI (Network Advertising Initiative), claims that 6.8% of people who click on behaviorally targeted ads turn into buyers, versus 2.8% of those who click on non-targeted ads as stated in the article “Study: Like it or not, behavioral ad targeting works”, published March 24, 2010 9:01 AM PDT by Caroline McCarthy, CNET News – The Social.

My concept for a new Social Network for Google, therefore, will take many by surprise. Google has a search engine called Google and an email service called Gmail, another idea of mine that I gave away during an interview at C&W back in September 2003, the original concept based on placing spot hyperlinked words for the various products being advertised, with the hope that user would click on the words.

Gmail success, however, was driven by the fact that they were one of the first email service to allow people to use their email in a third part client to both send and receive email, thus making it unnecessary for the user to go on the Internet, merely only to have the Internet and was not loaded down with advertisements like Yahoo! Mail.

Not to mention the more than amply generous 5 GB of storage. Google and Nintendo Wii also co-developed an obscure game, at my request, called And-Kensaku, available only to Japanese Nintendo Wii players for the low-low price of 4,900 yen (US$52) on April 29th 2010 as stated in the article “Google and Nintendo to launch 'Search Engine' Game”, published Wednesday April 7 2010 by Matt Peckham, Yahoo News, an experimental concept for a game also based on suggestions I had made via email in early 2009 to Google.

Thus my idea becomes clear. All Google needs to do to create a Social Network is to combine the Google Search Engine Game called And-Kensaku and the Google Buzz to create something that is the first of its kind: A Search Engine Social Network.

New users would simply enter their email address into the search text box on a standard Google Search Page, the knowledge of the Social network being spread by word-of-mouth and online advertisements.

The letters Google would morph into the words Google Me and a second fold out drop box, designed in the style of Google Android OS UI, would fold out below the search text box and the user would be invited to choose from the List which Social Network their information and content is currently hosted.

On selecting the Social Network e.g. FaceBook, Google Me would then use a SNP (Social Network Portability) Tool, developed based on Google Wave technology to transfer all of you settings, inclusive of your videos, pictures, recordings and postings into the Google Me Platform, which already has the same optimized equivalent settings as Twitter, FaceBook and FourSquare and in the process setting up you Gmail account and creating the Google Buzz account in the API so as to re-integrate your previous settings from your previous Social Network,

A process that may take twenty four (24) hours, hence advising the user to check their email to advise them when the transfer is compete. From that point onwards, to access the Search Engine Social Network, the user would merely have to go to a Google Search Page and type their email and press “Search”.

A second search textbox would appear that would allow the user to enter their password, the Google Me Platform supporting passwords of up to twenty (20) characters long or optionally, one can use the Blink! Facial recognition software, now able to work on 64-bit Windows based Computers

Perfect for the trending of front facing cameras on mobile smart phones and tablets as is possible based on the article “Blink-induced log-in now available on 64-bit Windows”, published August 6, 2010 10:15 AM PDT, by Polina Polishchuk CNET News - The Download Blog as a means of accessing ones Google Me account securely. First for any Social Network.

An additional incentive is that Google Me can allow users to make revenue by clicking on advertisements or receive and read sponsored emails in their Gmail accounts, or even watching advertising on television when Google rolls out Google TV, into which Google Me can be easily integrated.

It is ever present once you have the Google Search Page. Members of Google Me would be paid in a program similar to how Google AdWords, Yahoo Search Marketing and Microsoft AdCenter works

This is a business model being attempted locally here in Jamaica by Bishop Damion Ffriend of the Ebenezer Tabernacle Apostolic Church, an entrepreneur who partnered with another businesses entrepreneur named Robert Gregory Jr. to form Jamaica Advertising Advantage as stated in the article “Click for Cash”, published Sunday August 1 2010, by Avia Collinder, Gleaner Writer, The Jamaica Gleaner. Free Money: Guaranteed to be more addictive than crack, also another first for any Social Network!!

The “secret sauce” of this design, (aside from the free money!!)  is not so much the UI using the commonly known Google Search Page as the fact that it tackles the onerous problem that most defectors from one Social Network to another face: having to start over. Just as in real life Socializing, when one moves to a new neighborhood, you have to re-socialize all over again and find friends.

But before you do that, you have to set up your house and make it as welcoming to others interested in coming on invitation. Since FaceBook often has most of your treasured moments uploaded and most users have declared the pictures, recordings, videos and other content as being originally theirs and non-copyright infringing

A simple SNP (Social Network Portability) Application can be designed from research tools left over from Google Wave to handle the transfer process, much in the same way professional movers can help one pack, move and unpack and resettle in a new neighborhood, hopefully with none of your valuables stolen, broken or damaged.

However, unlike real life, in the virtual world, once you move, you can still keep you old haunts or choose to delete your old Social Network Account, especially as Google Me mimics all the currently popular trending Social Networking sites.

Google Me is truly a lunatic, a lover and a poet, heralding a first: migrating Social Networks via SNP (Social Networking Portability) similar to migrating Mobile Phone Number on a Telecom Provider’s Network known as MNP (Mobile Number Portability) to this new type of Social Network, namely a Search Engine Social Network.

The Search Engine Social Network will improve itself by simply copying the latest trends on their other Social Networks it already mimics, thus saving time on coming up with original proof-of-concept ideas and thereby guaranteeing success………..by attrition.
