Convergyns and Aegis Communications Call Centers Coming – FDI powered Call Center Renaissance in Jamaica thanks to our Good English

 

Folks it looks like a lot more happened at the JAMPRO (Jamaica Promotions Corporation) sponsored Jamaica Investment Forum recently held on Thursday March 1^st 2012AD and on Friday March 2^nd 2012AD at the Montego Bay Convention Centre in St. James!

Media reports described the invitation only shindig dubbed “Invest in Jamaica: Invest in a Global Brand” as being oversubscribed, owing to the high level of interest and the profile of the speakers, mostly Government Ministers as noted in the article “Jamaica Investment conference oversubscribed”, published 2012-03-01 09:15:57, Go-Jamaica.com. Rare to see them so directly involved, as they usually send Ministerial Members in their stead.

Four hundred (400) delegates from nearly sixteen (16) countries is definitely oversubscribed.

Roll call please:

• Russia and China
• Sweden
• Scotland
• Serbia
• Japan
• Grand Cayman
• Trinidad and Tobago
• USA
• Canada and the UK

But the other big news aside from the Russians coming to make BioEthanol for Sorghum as noted in my blog article entitled “Russians see potential in Ethanol Fuel Plant in Jamaica – From Russia With Love for sorghum”: Ohio-based company, Convergys and US-based Aegis Communications Ltd are coming to Jamaica to set up Call Centers.

Some quick facts about Convergys:

• Employs nearly 75,000 employees worldwide
• Various Clients in 70 countries including T-Mobile, Telefonica of Spain, Macy and Cisco to name a few
• 85 Call Centers Worldwide

This was the company that was hinted in The Jamaica Observer in November 2011AD entitled “American firm to bring up to 3,000 ICT jobs”, published Wednesday, November 23, 2011 BY JULIAN RICHARDSON Assistant business Co-ordinator, The Jamaica Observer.

It was later revealed to be Convergys in subsequent articles “MoBay call centre to create 1000 jobs”, published Wednesday, December 07, 2011 BY PAUL ALLEN Observer staff reporter, The Jamaica Observer and the article “Call centre to employ 1,000 in MoBay”, published Thursday, December 08, 2011 by Paul Allen Business reporter, The Jamaica Observer.

Convergys their target amount of employees as being between one thousand (1000) to three thousand (3000) employees in a Sector is significant in a rapidly expanding ICT (Information and Computer Technology) Sector that already employs some eleven thousand five hundred (11,500) people.

This are reported in the Press Release from the JIS (Jamaica Information Service) entitled “Russians Interested in Setting up Ethanol Plant”, published Sunday March 4^th 2012 by Donna-Marie Rowe, Jamaica Information Service. It was also echoed by the Jamaica Observer today Tuesday March 6^th 2012 in the article “Russians interested in setting up ethanol plant”, published Tuesday, March 06, 2012 by JIS via the Jamaica Observer.

The Russians are definitely interested in Jamaica as a place to invest in the making of BioEthanol using sugary-sweet sorghum. Possibly other BioFuels such as BioDiesel, a definite catalyst for the Liberalization of the Motor Vehicle Fuel Production Section of the Energy Sector as predicted in my blog article entitled “Russians see potential in Ethanol Fuel Plant in Jamaica – From Russia With Love for sorghum” may also be in the works, a spur for Local investment in the Sector.

This move by Convergys and US-based Aegis Communications Ltd is a clear and obvious follow-on of the 2009AD investment by printer maker Xerox in buying ACS (Affiliated Computer Services) Ltd

They had also purchased ACS’s  assets here in Jamaica for US$6.4 billion in cash and stock back in September 2009AD as stated in the article “Xerox buys E-Services parent, ACS - US$6B deal to expand tech services business” published Wednesday September 30, 2009, The Jamaica Gleaner.  E-Services, previously owned by Patrick Casserly and Partners, was an asset he parted with for US$85 million.

Now it would seem that Call Centers are slated to make their mark in Jamaica as well.

This with the success of Amazon’s Kindle Fire going as far as to take a bite out of Apple iPad 2 sales as stated in my Geezam blog article entitled “Amazon sells 5.5 million Kindle Fires in Fourth Quarter 2012 – Apple iPad sales drop and plans January Press Event” and my blog article entitled “Apple iPad 3 Launch on March 2012 - Amazon Kindle Fire is a Sweet Dream but a Beautiful Nightmare for Apple”.

The business it generated for ACS-Xerox is now well known and the investment in ACS is now being looked up on in Silicon Valley as a stroke of genius. With the looming possibility that Amazon may be launching a pair of smartphones in the Fourth Quarter of 2012AD as hinted in my blog article entitled “Amazon set to launch smartphone in Fourth Quarter of 2012AD - The App Economy and the Increasing Importance of Digical Content”, more business is definitely coming the way of the Jamaican operations for ACS-Xerox.

Best of all, Jamaica is now in the spotlight as the ideal Call Center destination. Hence the interest, as no doubt Convergys and US-based Aegis Communications are coming to Jamaica for the same reasons FDI (Foreign Direct Investor) Xerox getting into the Call Center Business via its acquisition of ACS (Affiliated Computer Services):

• Call Center Business is an excellent form of diversification for Xerox, which has long been in the printing business now dominated by Hewlett-Packard
• Jamaica speaks English as our First Language
• We have excellent Fiber Optic Connectivity to the US and South America, making Jamaica the perfect place to Host Call Centers
• Cheap, plentiful Labour willing and ready to work
• Non-discriminatory workplaces employing people with various skill and education levels
• The coming of Energy Sector Liberalization and large power company investors such as Canadian Solarmon Energy Corp and American-Based Green RG as stated in the article “Solamon Energy Corp & Green RG invest in Jamaica's Alternative Energy Future - Let the Cheaper Energy Hunger Games for Latin America Begin”, heralding cheaper electricity, a definite attraction of power-intensive ICT Sector Companies

Only this time, the Call Center Operators in question, Cincinnati, Ohio-based company, Convergys and US-based Aegis Communications Ltd, two (2) Fortune 500 companies hailing out of the US of A, are interested in more than just renting a building and using some slightly used Computers to run their Call Center, based on my first hand experience with working at ACS-Xerox.

Rather, Convergys is planning to build theirs [Call Center] from scratch in Montego Bay, with the intention to employ approximately one thousand (1000) CSA (Customer Service Agents) upon completion of their facility in the First Quarter of 2013AD.

They also have plans for more than three thousand (3000) eventually as stated in the article “New call centre for MoBay” Published Sunday March 4, 2012 by Janet Silvera, Senior Gleaner Writer, The Sunday Gleaner. Worth repeating that number again, folks; that is a lot of idle people off the streets and no longer thinking of committing crimes.

This culled from the words of JAMPRO President Sancia Templer, quote: “They will start construction this year and have decided that they want to have a strong presence here, developing their own ICT centre. When you put brick and mortar in a country it means you are in that country for the long haul”.

Clearly, the Jamaica Investment Forum had the direct interest of the Minister of Government, who now realizes, more than ever, that their long-term future rests in encouraging FDI to come and invert in Jamaica.

Whether they plan to use Jamaica as springboard to offer Call center services to Spanish–speaking countries in Latin America is not Jamaica’s concern. After all, we should be very grateful and feel extremely lucky that Cuba is still under an embargo sanctioned by the US Government, making Jamaica the ideal launching pad.

All this because we are an English-speaking country!!!! We seriously need to thank the British for chasing away the Spanish in 1655!

Moreover, the gain in terms of Taxes, Licenses and employment to unemployment has political benefits as well for the PNP (People’s National Party) currently in power and seeking to remain in power by being an arbiter of Growth and development. Even if this is really a follow-on of the JLP (Jamaica Labour Party) Macroeconomic Stabilization Policies………

LIME's 4G Experience Centers & Digicel's JA$8.99 One Rate Plan - Telecom Providers fear Municipal Wi-Fi SkyFall from Broadcasters DSO

 It would appear that the Big Telecoms Providers in Jamaica have finally, as we say in Jamaica Patios, “ketch dem Fraid” of  Municipal Wi-Fi (IEEE 802.11n) Providers Dekal Wireless and Nubian-1 Tech Services, both of which are owned by the Lee’s Family and Wayne Chen of Super Plus Fame,

This as Today, Telecoms Provider LIME has announce that they are going HSDPA+ (High Speed Downlink Packet Access) Release 7 by Monday March 12^th 2012AD as stated in the article “LIME offers 4G experience”, published  Friday March 9, 2012, The Jamaica Gleaner and in the article ”LIME opens '4G' experience centres”, published Friday, March 09, 2012, The Jamaica Observer

For those following the now exciting developments in Telecoms, this is three (3) days after Digicel’s extended offer to migrate customers away from CLARO Jamaica ends on Friday March 9^th 2012AD, which happens to be today. Interestingly enough, it is also ten (10) days since Telecom Provider Digicel announced their One Rate Calling Plan, for which I wrote a neat piece in my Geezam Blog entitled “Digicel Introduces One Rate Calling for $8.99 in Jamaica”

According to Telecom Provider LIME’s rather artsy Press Release, no doubt the handiwork of LIME's Regional Vice-President, Marketing and Corporate Communications, Grace Silvera, quote: “Starting Monday, the company will be rolling out the red carpet for customers at select LIME locations across the island for them to be the first to experience the superior technology which is only available in the United States, Japan and some European nations. The enhanced services in what have been dubbed '4G Experience Zones' will be concentrated in key commercial and residential districts.”

Please note that this is the same Grace Silvera who was Red Stripe’s Head of marketing and the person who basically introduced the concept of Branding to Jamaica. Telecom Provider LIME finally acquired her services and nearly twenty five (25) years of expertise in Marketing and Branding.

Her last stint as the first International Marketing Director for Diageo-owned Red Stripe as stated in the accolades laid out in the article “Grace Silvera sweetens LIME”, published Thursday, January 13, 2011, The Jamaica Observer.

Effectively, LIME will be doing what we Telecoms Technicians were told by the expatriate Telecoms Engineers from Huawei and Ericsson as an Open Sandbox Test within the selected areas:

• New Kingston along Knutsford Boulevard
• Carlton Crescent in Kingston
• Half-Way Tree Road in Kingston
• Portmore Mall in Portmore and those lucky enough to live near the Mall (shout out to the CSA at West Cal Center!!)
• Fairview Mall in Montego Bay, St James

As Telecom Provider LIME has not announced that they have an LTE (Long Term Evolution) License, it must be the same HSDPA+ Release 7 Network that they had announce on Tuesday May 17^th 2011AD, World Telecommunications and Information Society Day as referred to in my blog article entitled “LIME's US$80 million Caribbean HSDPA+ Release 7 Upgrade - Sonic the Hedgehog” .

The obvious clue can be seen in the list of compatible devices, which includes:

• Samsung Galaxy SII
• BlackBerry Bold 9900
• Apple iPhone 4S as described in my blog article entitled “Apple iPhone 4S Post Mortem – Siri Voice Assistant and iMessage Rock”
• Huawei Mifi E586

From the above list, whose specs you can Google, it becomes apparent that none of them support LTE (Long Term Evolution). Thus, it must be HSDPA+ Release 7 referred to above that had been slated to go live in eighteen (18) months, based on the article “LIME to create history – first to bring 4G mobile technology to the Caribbean”, published Tuesday, May 17th, 2011 at 6:30 pm, Dominica News Online!

Clearly, Telecom Provider LIME has pushed up the timeframe, as that would have landed, counting from the announcement on Tuesday May 17^th 2011AD by LIME Caribbean CEO David Shaw, on December 2012AD.

From the above proximity of the event mentioned above, one could easily make the mistake and conclude that this is in response to Telecom Provider Digicel. But it isn’t, trust me on this.

Telecom Provider Digicel’s 3G Network, which they acquired for the sole purpose of getting a hold of the spectrum and the 3G license as stated in my blog article entitled “Digicel to shut down CLARO's Voice Network in HSDPA+ Push - The Louisiana Purchase of Spectrum” is not all it cracked up to be.

Already on the Geezam blog, fellow blogger Horace in the article “Digicel’s Internet Bundle leaves a lot to be desired” pointed out the deficiencies in Telecom Provider Digicel’s offer of 3G service using bundles with Megabyte sizes that are unrealistic and do not reflect actual internet usage.

Apparently, they do not see CLARO’s 3G Internet as being on par to match those of their WiMaX 4G Service and may not wish to self-cannibalize, having spent some US$22 million on building out the WiMaX Network in 2010AD. Clearly, Telecom Provider Digicel is still testing out CLARO newly acquired 3G Networks with the intention to eventually go HSDPA+ Release 7.

Worse, they cannot go full HSDPA+ Release 7 as announced back in 2011AD as per my blog article entitled “Digicel's US$85 million HSDPA+ and WiMax 4G Upgrade - Wizards of Waverly Place Fast Five Showdown”, which at best effort is capable of specs in the 42MBps best effort, requiring that they upgrade CLARO Jamaica’s IP RAN (IP Radio Access Network) powered mainly by Alcatel-Lucent Radios to a Fiber Optic Backhaul to handle the expected traffic increase.

An upgrade which had begun in 2009AD and should be completed by Telecom Provider Digicel if they are serious about LTE! And Telecom Provider Digicel is yet to finish the MSC (Mobile Switching Center) build-out in Duncans, Trelawny. Clearly any response from Telecom Provider Digicel would be foolhardy, making it obvious that Telecoms Provider Digicel is not the real reason for the upping of the upgrade schedule.

Clearly, it must be the other silent partner in the Wireless Broadband market, Dekal Wireless and Nubian-1- Tech Services Limited, which I had predicted would start silently expanding into Kingston and slowly and stealthily steal BOTH Telecom Provider LIME and Telecom Provider Digicel customers as stated in my Geezam blog article entitled “Crouching LIME Huawei E586 Mi-Fi – Hidden Dekal Wireless Dragon”

Even Telecom Provider Digicel’s recent JA$8.99 One Rate Calling Plan as reported in my Geezam blog article entitled “Digicel Introduces One Rate Calling for $8.99 in Jamaica” is really a fear response to Dekal Wireless and Nubian-1- Tech Services Limited.

These Municipal Wi-Fi (IEEE 802.11n) Providers may be set to benefit from DSO (Digital Switch Over) which may soon be forced upon the Free-To-Air Broadcasters by Senator Phillip Paulwell in a meeting later this April 2012AD so as to relinquish their “squatting” on spectrum and so-called “White” Space Frequencies in the UHF (Ultra High Frequency) and VHF (Very High Frequency) range for NTSC Standard Free-To-Air Broadcasting.

This as explained in my blog article entitled “Broadcasting and Digital Switch Over - Back to the Future to compete with LIME TV”. A bonanza for FDI (Foreign Direct Investor) Telecoms Provider planning to come to Jamaica and in search of High Bandwidth and frequencies bands with good carry through concrete walls and steel!

But it spells doom for the established Telecoms Providers, who have the most to lose if their overpriced “4G”offerings are exposed as being really overpriced by this influx of low-cost Municipal Wi-Fi (IEEE 802.11n) Network Providers, being as most devices already have Wi-Fi (IEEE 802.11n).

Hence Telecom Provider LIME Open Sandbox test and even overt giveaways, a true indication of what they fear: the coming of Municipal Wi-Fi (IEEE 802.11n) Networks powered by Spectrum made available from DSO (Digital Switch Over).

Russians see potential in Ethanol Fuel Plant in Jamaica – From Russia With Love for sorghum

It seems everybody in the International sphere is suddenly is interested in investing in investing in Jamaica’s Energy Sector. This has been noticeable ever since the partial Liberalization of the Sector initiated by former Energy and Mining Minister Clive Mullings  as stated in my blog article entitled “Solamon Energy Corp & Green RG invest in Jamaica's Alternative Energy Future - Let the Cheaper Energy Hunger Games for Latin America Begin”

Even more interesting, is that even with the change of Government from JLP (Jamaica Labour Party to PNP (People’s National Party), the GOJ is being rather bullish about FDI investment. This based on the reaction to the JAMPRO (Jamaica Promotions Corporation) sponsored Jamaica Investment Forum recently held on Thursday March 1^st 2012AD and on Friday March 2^nd 2012AD at the Montego Bay Convention Centre in St. James.

This as per the Press Release by the JIS (Jamaica Information Service) entitled “Russians Interested in Setting up Ethanol Plant”, published Sunday March 4^th 2012 by Donna-Marie Rowe, Jamaica Information Service. The news, also echoed by the Jamaica Observer today Tuesday March 6^th 2012 in the article “Russians interested in setting up ethanol plant”, published  Tuesday, March 06, 2012 by JIS via the Jamaica Observer, is an interesting series of Developments, as it indicates that another form of Energy Sector Liberalization is also under way: Biofuel.

Russia is interested in setting up an Ethanol Plant, using sorghum, a sugar cane-like grass as the feedstock. Whether this would be feasible in our country where land for growing food is at a premium and most farmers have their land under cultivation with Tobacco as it makes more money as stated in my blog article entitled “Rise of King Tobacco threatens Agriculture for Food – Vybz Kartel Hot Grabba killing Marijuana Farming” remains to be seen.

Maybe they plan to grow the sorghum under the Solar Panels that Solarmon Energy Corp from out of Canada plan to erect on three (3) fifty (50) acre Solar farms most likely located in three (3) separate parishes here in Jamaica as per my Geezam Blog article entitled “Solamon Energy Corporation to build Caribbean’s Largest Solar Plant – Jamaica to get a Green Energy Boost”? Who knows…..

Consultant, Peter Mitchell who chaperoned the Russian Investors at JAMPRO’s Jamaica Investment Forum, was visibly upbeat though when JIS interviewed him, quote: “We have been able to get ministers sitting together with us and talking. Soon we will have something going with the investors putting up the money. Everybody is enthusiastic so far.  As far as I am concerned, it was well worth coming over”.

Similar sentiments were expressed by other investors in other fields aside from Energy, as it relates to the level of involvement of the various Government of Jamaica Ministers, who apparently cleared their busy schedules to be guest speakers at the JAMPRO sponsored Jamaica Investment Forum:

• Ministers of Finance and the Public Service, Hon. Dr. Peter Phillips
• Minister of Science, Technology, Energy and Mining, Hon. Phillip Paulwell
• Minister of Tourism and Entertainment, Hon. Dr. Wykeham McNeill
• Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries, Hon. Roger Clarke
• Minister of Health, Hon. Dr. Fenton Ferguson

Quite unusual for minister to be this personally involved in a Conference, especially as they could have sent their Junior Ministers to represent them. An obvious change in the PNP’s stance on FDI (Foreign Direct Investment) with a more business centric focus is very welcome, especially with the dark clouds of the US Recession lingering despite the uptick in Remittances as reported in the article “Remittance companies bullish as transfers hit new record” Published Sunday March 4, 2012 by Avia Collinder, Business Writer, The Jamaica Gleaner

This oft neglected section of the Energy Sector is set to get more prominence, as the high cost of motor vehicle fuel affecting everyone and the manufacture of Biofuel substitutes for Gasoline and Diesel that can work in your motor vehicle are of interest to most Jamaicans. Effectively folks, we are witnessing the beginning of Energy Sector Liberalization of the BioFuel Sector as opined in my blog articles:

• ATL Automotive to benefit from Low-Sulphur Diesel in 12 Months Time - Bio-Fuels Resident Evil Apocalypse

This is especially if the fuel is low cost and may actually be good for the engine in terms of helping to lower vehicle maintenance costs, such as the use of Auto LPG as stated in my Geezam Blog article entitled “Auto LPG as a Motor Vehicle Fuel”. Even US President Barack Obama is pursuing the increased usage of Auto LPG as noted in the article “A push for cheaper, safer natural gas cars”, published February 23, 2012, 3:29pm PT by Ucilia Wang, GigaOM.

Albeit truth be told, his recommendation is an indication that the US is worried about unstable Oil prices in the Middle East due to the recent actions of Iran as stated in the article “INSIGHT - Catch me if you can - Oil sanctions against Iran”, published  Tue Mar 6, 2012 8:37pm IST By Peg Mackey, Reuters.

This as the US Military and the US Central Government has been gradually weaning itself off its dependence on Imported Fossil Fuels since 2010AD with an emphasis on the Long term development of Alternative Energy Resources as stated in my blog article entitled “Alternative Energy and the President - Three Days of the Condor”

Despite this, the main advantages of BioFuels derived from plant material are:

• Lower sulphur content of the fuel, which is good for spark plug
• Cleaner Combustion chamber
• Cleaner Air being pumped into the environment

Already, local Jamaican company National Bakery has spearheaded the processing of leftover vegetable Oil such ass cashew and peanut Oil from their baking business as Biodiesel, an initiative of National Bakery’s Fleet Manager Michael Lodenquai as reported in the article “Running on Greens” published Sunday March 4, 2012 by Christopher Serju, Sunday Gleaner Writer, The Jamaica Gleaner.

A benefit to National Bakery in the long term, despite the slow process to make Biodiesel, as the sulphur content is significantly lower than fuel coming from the PCJ (Petroleum Corporation of Jamaica) Refineries. Not only that, the process can be scaled up to eventually become economical enough to allow National Bakery to go into the business of manufacturing BioDiesel on a large scale by recovering Cooking Oil islandwide as well as processing organic material into BioDiesel and even Ethanol as the Russians are planning to do.

Albeit the GOJ (Government of Jamaica) is soon to implement changes to the Refinery to lower the sulphur levels from 5000ppm (parts per million) to the more internationally acceptable 5ppm to 15 ppm as per my blog article entitled “ATL Automotive to benefit from Low-Sulphur Diesel in 12 Months Time - Bio-Fuels Resident Evil Apocalypse” waiting on the GOJ is not an advisable option.

Thus it is with much excitement that I welcome this development, as aside from the coming of All-Electric Vehicles to Jamaica as surmised in my Geezam blog article entitled “Oregon-based Porteon to assemble All-Electric Vehicles in Jamaica – One By One” and my blog article entitled “Porteon to manufacture All-Electric Vehicles in St. Lucia - Strengthening CARICOM ties with Jamaican Skilled Labour”.

This potential Russian investment in the burgeoning Biofuels manufacturing Sector represents yet another Liberalization of the Energy Sector as well as an opportunity for companies to make local and Foreign Exchange Revenue while being friendly to the Environment. From Russia with Love (1963) indeed!

@Qualcomm Atheros Chipsets to support the new 802.11ac Wi-Fi Standard - Municipal Wi-Fi Quantum of Solace

Qualcomm, the Telecoms Equiptment maker and chip designer has its sights set firmly on conquering Wireless Broadband specifically in Wi-Fi.

This could already be seen from their desire to reuse a huge chunk of 14GHz spectrum to power what is effectively very fast Airplane Wi-Fi as stated in my blog article entitled “Qualcomm to create Airplane Wi-Fi named Next Gen-AG using 500MHz of unused 14GHz spectrum - 300MBps in the Mile High Club”.

Thus this latest development of chips by Qualcomm to support the new Wi-Fi standard IEEE 802.11ac, which made its debut at the CES (Computer Electronics Show) 2012AD came as no surprise to me as stated in the article “Qualcomm chips bring faster Wi-Fi to mobile devices”, published February 23, 2012, 7:02am PT By Kevin C. Tofel, GigaOM.

The new chipsets, codenamed Atheros, are incredibly fast for Wi-Fi as stated in the article “Qualcomm Atheros' 802.11ac ecosystem to span all wireless networking”, published February 23, 2012 4:09 PM PST by Dong Ngo, CNET News.

These chipsets, which are effectively DSP (Digital Signal Processors) are not only an improvement in speed, but also in energy efficiency, using far less power than their power hungry predecessor that used the IEEE 802.11n protocol that maxed out at 300MBps.

Even more interesting, is that it matches speeds with WiGiG, the much touted Gigabit Wi-Fi protocol that was supposed to compete with WirelessHD and Wireless Home Digital Interface (WHDI) using the 60GHz spectrum as noted in “WiGiG group finalizes new wireless standard”, published December 11 2009 by Lance Whitney, CNET News - Blog Network and “Wi-Fi to cultivate speedy 60GHz band”, published May 11, 2010 11:08 AM PDT by Dong Ngo, CNET News - Wireless.

To be specific, the new Qualcomm Atheros Ecosystem has the following main chipsets:

• 450Mbps single-stream WCN3680 chipset
• 1.3Gbps three-stream QCA9860 chipsets
• 900Mbps dual-stream QCA9862 chipsets
• Three-stream QCA9880 and two-stream QCA9882 which support only 802.11ac/a/b/g/n.
• Three-stream QCA9890 and two-stream QCA9892 which are designed for Enterprise Network Solution Applications

A few quick pointes on the above chipsets:

Thus Qualcomm is solidifying its leadership in Wi-Fi by introducing yet another reason for Telecom Providers to be afraid of Spectrum License “Super” Wi-Fi (IEEE 802.11n) based on Space Frequencies as stated in my blog article entitled “Telecoms and White Spaces - A Man for All Seasons and the Big Bang Theory”. Not only is it going to be faster, but its lower energy consumption means 3D HDTV will now be possible on mobile devices sans Telecoms Providers.

Telecom Providers may be blocking VoIP and IPTV streaming over their 3G and upcoming 4G Networks, but with Wi-Fi standard IEEE 802.11ac no making its debut in device so soon after CES 2012AD, Telecoms Providers have just been made facilitators for Municipal Wi-Fi Networks and Wireless Broadband Networks as noted in my blog article entitled “CLARO, FLOW and Municipal Wi-Fi IEEE 802.11n - Battlestar Galactica” such as Dekal Wireless in Jamaica via smartphones that may support this service, Quantum of Solace (2008) Style.

Even worse, the coming of the faster Wi-Fi standard IEEE 802.11ac may also mean the death of Switched Voice Network both Landline and Mobile phone Voice Calling as per my blog article entitled “Telecom Providers 4G vs Wi-Fi Calling - Galaxy Rangers”, again thanks to these Municipal Wi-Fi Networks.

Wi-Fi Roaming agreements may also be on the horizon for Telecom Providers with superfast 4G LTE based on the technology of Telecoms Equipment Provider Ruckus Wireless as stated in my blog article entitled “Telecom Providers, 4G and Wi-Fi Roaming - Ruckus Wireless and the Firestarter”.

Qualcomm’s inclusion of the faster Wi-Fi standard IEEE 802.11ac effectively puts Municipal Wi-Fi Networks on par with the 4G Telecoms Providers, even here in Jamaica. This despite the coming of HSDPA+ (High Speed Downlink Packet Access) Release 7 Wireless Broadband Networks from BOTH Telecom Provider Digicel and Telecom Provider LIME as noted in my blog article entitled “Digicel to shut down CLARO's Voice Network in HSDPA+ Push - The Louisiana Purchase of Spectrum”.

Even when they ramp up to LTE (Long Term Evolution) with speeds of 100MBps best effort as debated in my blog article entitled “LTE vs WiMax 4G - Jayce and the Wheeled Warriors”, they won’t be as fast and low cost as Municipal Wi-Fi Networks using Qualcomm’s Gear or smartphones sporting chipsets that support the faster Wi-Fi standard IEEE 802.11ac.

Now we must wait and see what will happen when Spectrum License “Super” Wi-Fi (IEEE 802.11n) come to Jamaica after the New Telecommunications Act as well as the New Telecoms Regulator takes effect some time in the fourth Quarter of 2012AD as anticipate in my blog article entitled “Phillip Paulwell broker's Telecom Deal - Telecom Regulator and Mobile Number Portability Coming”.
