Broadcasting and Advertising - CoreTalk, MRSL and Jus Bet to the Rescue

Why is it that we rejoice at a birth and grieve at a funeral? Is it because we are not the person concerned?

Mark Twain, Pudd’nhead Wilson’s Calendar

This odd question rings a chord today as I watch while eating my bourbon (people, people. the biscuit, not the drink, I don’t drink!!), which for the uninitiated, is for me the equivalent of Prozac, as being rather heavily addicted to chocolate, I cannot start the day without eating or drinking it. So obsessed am I that I do not even like eating porridge without having chocolate mixed into it!

Christmas is a delight for me, as all of our cakes are made with chocolate. I love braised chicken with a chocolate glaze or poulle a la chocolat, my favourite food that I taught Audia Granston, my deceased girlfriend who died of cervical cancer, to cook for me and used to make just right, with the chocolate saturating every tendon down to the bone. It is amazing all the things you can put chocolate.

I love chocolate so much that I have decided to add it to my growing list of topic to write about, as I realize while watching and sipping my chocolate and eating my bourbon that although on Smile Jamaica , aired Tuesday July 20 2010 on Television Jamaica Simone Clarke –Cooper, now in her late forties (40’s) is getting fatter, it was not from eating too much chocolate.

In fact, her sudden explosion in size, much as was the case with Natalie Del Conte, a Senior Editor on CNET News, is from being pregnant, thought empirical proof in the absolute would have to be provided to verify the veracity of John Public’s observation and the utterances of Simon Crosskill, her co-host, who constantly robs her in the segment “Something to Smile About”.

Thus it is new life is being produced live on television, folks, making me wonder, as I have been told so often by Audia, that it is just a show of camera light and magic, possibly to boost ratings for Smile Jamaica , much as in Hollywood in California, actors pretend to have babies, even soliciting people to have their young bundles of joy on television in shows.

Who knows, maybe part of the plot is to have the Pet Tales Chick, aka Carlette DeLeon show the miracle childbirth of animals on live television by having some animals have sex on television, which by the way is allowed by the Broadcasting Commission, as their restrictions of inappropriate programming does not extend to animals, technically speaking.

Maybe even Carlette DeLeon, host of the Pet Tales will be getting pregnant next. Whatever the case may be, John Public is not buying the idea that Simone Clarke –Cooper just accidentally got pregnant, especially on the heels of one of the hosts on the lesser viewed shows on television in the morning time slot on the competing television station, CVM TV, aptly called CVM at Sunrise, also coincidentally having a baby as well and sharing maternity related tips with the audience.

John Public surmises that females on both Smile Jamaica  and CVM at Sunrise deliberately impregnated themselves to boost ratings for their show, as bereft of solid evidence, Television Jamaica may have noticed that, since Simon Crosskill’s impromptu announcement to “the whole world” as Simone Clarke –Cooper has put it with much chagrin, weeks before the World Cup that she was pregnant, advertising spots on Smile Jamaica  overall has been on the rise, a fact the eagle-eyed John Public has noticed for several weeks by counting the number of advertisers and postings on the calendar on their show.

Granted it may be a holdover from World Cup, but I had also noticed the same thing on CVM at Sunrise when one of the hosts was visibly in a late stage of pregnancy, a good three (3) months before the World Cup.

Not conclusive, but can I now hypothesize that controversy for dancehall artiste, the death of a loved one in the case of SDA Audia Granston or the VoiceMail Artiste, or pregnancy on live television can boost television ratings?

Is this the Broadcasters RJR Communication Group and CVM Communication Group plan to boost viewership on their television shows and thus attract more advertisers, akin to the spectacle of, All Together Sing, Dancin’ Dynamites and now Digicel Rising Stars?

It may very well just be the case, as John Public explores this topic in depth, that as a people we love a spectacle and that spells news and increased viewership on television in keeping with the old adage that there is no such thing as bad publicity and it may be in keeping with my girlfriend’s view as it relates to “talk up de ting dem”.

Granted, there are more scientific ways of gauging the viewership of television programs, such as both the Broadcasters having an independent analyst, such as MRSL: register users phone numbers, mobile phones IMEI and SIM card IMSI using Government of Jamaica identification i.e. TRN, NIS, Passport, Birth Certificate and Voter’s ID and then using CoreTalk Caribbean Limited SMS services to have the registered participants vote on a scale of one (1)  to ten (10) in response to an SMS sent out at the end of a show to rate how much they love or hate a show.

Based on the feedback, Broadcasters then can use this information to sell time slots more precisely to advertisers, instead of having to resort to controversy, death or birth as Mark Twain asserts to hold the interests of the unconcerned.

Then again, doing it this way is possibly cheaper, as the local Radio Stations in Jamaica for some time begun to incorporate banter into their programming so as to allow listeners to hear what is going on in the studio. It would not therefore be surprising in the future that they incorporate video steaming to add a video element. Oh well……

As for me, I am off to Jus Bet! I have a proposal for them which may garner increased revenue. Jus Bet could introduce, aside from Sports Betting, going Online or on mobile phone apps downloads, seeing as how smart phone adoption is exploding in the USA as stated in the article “The summer of the smart phone shortage”, published July 13, 2010 4:00 AM PDT by Marguerite Reardon, CNET News - Signal Strength.

All indications suggest the same is soon to happen in Jamaica placing wagers on Events, effectively Events Betting e.g. Grammy Awards, Oscars, Tony Awards, etc. The first Event bet?

The sex of the mysterious Simone Clarke –Cooper baby, who I shall wager is a girl. And I would also wager on her name, that being Avaya, as since the end of the World Cup, I have won lots of money thanks to Paul the Octopus and only have the Barclays Premier League,  upon which to place wager on. Digicel Rising Stars for Jus Bet, anyone?

Google and Apple - Case to point on Public and Diplomatic Relations

If I owned Texas and Hell, I would rent out Texas and live in hell

Gen. Philip H. Sheridan, Speech, 1855, which John Public Attended

Despite the strange title, this is a technology related article, believe it or not. And indeed, I do wish I was in hell right now, as it has been raining these past few days, like the Monsoon in India.

Google’s long stand-off with the Government of the People’s Republic of China has finally been solved simply by having Google placed a clearly labeled hyperlink on the Google Search Page for the Hong Kong versions of Google’s Search Page, where the restrictive covenants of the Government of the People’s Republic of China does not apply, oweing to the “One China, Separate Policy” that is the rule of law of the day.

The history is rather long, but simple. The Government of the People’s Republic of China was accused of spying by Google as it relates to hacking the Google emails of Chinese Dissidents which Google protested of by allowing searches in the People’s Republic of China for free.

The Government of the People’s Republic of China retaliated, threatening to shut down Google’s operations in China and deny them an ISP (Internet Service Provider) license to operate in People’s Republic of China.

The impasse was eventually resolved when Google, after initially re-routing traffic to Hong Kong (which is still part of China, by the way), much to the disapproval of the Government of the People’s Republic of China, eventually placed the web link visibly written out in Mandarin and in English, at which point the impasse was solved.

Google got their ISP license signed and stamped as this change is  similar to how Baidu, the largest competing Search Engine in China and Google’s rival in search, is constructed as stated in the article “Google fine-tunes its China weather vane”, published July 9, 2010 9:47 AM PDT by Tom Krazit, CNET News - Relevant Results.

Thus lies the clue to the Government of the People’s Republic of China U-Turn: the Government of the People’s Republic of China, despite wishing to enter into the eCommerce likes its sister state Hong Kong, is deathly afraid of dissidents stirring up people otherwise under strong state control.

The People’s Republic of China still likes control even in the free intellectual domain that is the Internet. This move by the Government of the People’s Republic of China, albeit draconian, is what allows them to maintain law and order, even on the Internet.

By having hyperlinks displayed on Baidu’s Search Page website and now on Google Search Page, it forces Chinese users to click on the link, which can be easily recorded as a click event by a keylogger, a drone program installed by the Chinese Authorities on the computers of suspected dissidents to spy on their activities via the remote recording of their keystrokes, Google engineers should by now realize.

Google has thus learned a hard won lesson in Chinese diplomacy that Senator George W. Bush, President of the United States of America, learned during the Spy Plane standoff with the People’s Republic of China, in his first term in office not even 100 day after being sworn in as President of the United States of America.

An impasse which he resolved by sending them a carefully worded letter saying in English “the USA is sorry”, which translates into Mandarin as “It’s USA fault. We are sorry”. John Public needs to learn a Far East language, soon!!

This is a technique of Language and Cultural of Far East diplomacy that John Public knows all too well, having been dealing with people of Chinese descent, even once having one as a girlfriend. John Public is also aware of their spying and snooping habits

This as I had used their keylogger technique to get access to email accounts while working at C&W and send email from them to order stationary and twisted pair wiring for the Pembroke North Central Office on several occasions, hacking even the C&W President’s Gary Barrow email - before he promptly discovered the fraud and had his password changed

I got sent to see the company shrink, a sexy psychiatrist from Trinidad and Tobago, who told me to say “woo-saaah”, a humorous end to a rather serious event which occurred in 2002. Later, in the same year, I also used this same technique to get my revenge.

I also used a keylogger to obtain the login and password of Stacia Green’s Yahoo email account remotely (like the People’s Republic of China is known to do!!) and sent in my proposal for bmobile to then HOD (Head of Department) Claude Petgrave in 2002 while Stacia Green and I were employed as Network Maintenance Technicians at C&W.

Thus it made it appear that she had come up with the idea, as she was the company’s favourite – which of course as history records, worked as C&W launched their GSM Network with bmobile, successful reversing months of churn and in the process:

  1. Promoting the use of Jamaican patios
  2. Flat Rate Calling i.e. 10/8 Anyone Rate Promotion, Homefone
  3. A promise to pursue MNP (Mobile Number Portability)
  4. Getting Stacia Green a Green colored Nissan Serena as a reward for her troubles to boot

bmobile spawned bfree (PrePaid), bmobile (Postpaid) and bfree Plus (a hybrid of bfree and bmobile and GPRS Data Plans, the first Data Plan in Jamaica before Digicel).

bfree later evolved into the 10/8 Anyone Rate Promotion with the loveable Pressa, bfree Plus became SupaPak and UltraPak. Homefone later became Homefone Xpress, a wireless EDGE/GPRS based VOIP wireless data service.

I later re-worked my other ignored proposals and combined with bmobile to create LIME. LIME was inspired by the decal that used to be posted on the Ground Floor showing the history of Cable and Wireless: from Landline, then Internet with the introduction of ADSL, Mobile with the re-launch of its GSM network and finally an Entertainment Telecom Provider.

With the coming of a much-rumored, much hyped Digital Wireless Subscriber Television product, LIME TV set to bring the “E” in the name alive!

LIME TV is based on a deal with Direct TV, set to launch in the midst of August 2010 and possibly piggybacked on Telecom Provider LIME 3G Wireless Broadband Network.

This is slated to coincide with Telecom Provider Digicel launch of their WiMax 4G Mobile (IEEE 802.16d) Wireless Broadband Network during SumFest 2010 and their new Motorola Droid X.

This is allegedly to be re-branded the Motorola Mainstream as stated by the Digicel Brand Manager on the program Smile Jamaica TVJ on Friday July 9th 2010, Television Jamaica.

Oddly enough, John Public has been hearing rumblings of Telecom Provider CLARO planned launch of the Apple iPhone 3GS and Apple iPhone 4G as prizes to the Festival winners along with cash as well as for sale to the general public at the Denbigh Agricultural Show on in August in Denbigh, Clarendon and then later at all of their outlets, major or minor along with the launch of their CDMA 2000 Network and a product similar to LIME – with the free complementary bumpers

But I may be getting a bit ahead of myself.

Coincidentally, the 1st of August is also the final date when FaceBook is planning to clean up all of the flair i.e. cupcakes, gifts etc, cluttering the FaceBook servers as stated in the video CNET Loaded, aired Friday July 9th2010 by Natalie Del Conte, Executive Editor, CNET News which happens to be my birth day and my birth month.

Even Dekal Wireless is my inspired idea, based on my experience with setting up Wi-Fi (IEEE 802.11n) as “roast” on Saturdays during Weekend Duty while working at C&W from 2001 to 2004.

Most of the major Telecom Providers in the United States of America also have new smart phones lined up to be launched – all in August!!

Finally, some revenge for people born on August, with benefits for all, myself included as this smorgasbord of smart phones, 3G, 4G and Wi-Fi (IEEE 802.11n) is making my mouth water for Data Plans for this August. The Summer of 2010 in Jamaica is nice again!!!

The Government of the People’s Republic of China needs Google to teach them how to make money from the internet, the one place where they have no control over and are yet to make money from eCommerce and Google needs the People’s Republic of China to keep growing, as already they are seeing signs of reduced revenue.

This is due ironically, to fewer and fewer people clicking on advertisements and more people clicking on web links, as evidenced in their charging for page transitions and sudden interest in managing their large cash pile via setting up their own Trading Floor as stated in the article “Google's Latest Launch: It's Own Trading Floor”, published May 27, 2010, 5:00PM EST By Douglas MacMillan, BusinessWeek - TECHNOLOGY.

Their increased and considerable diversification into other business not related to its core business of searchis evident also. FaceBook and Twitter are also in a similar position, having begun to plateau in their growth in the Developed World and now having to look towards the Developing Economies of Russia, The Peoples Republic of China, Korea and Japan as stated in the video CNET Buzz Report, aired Thursday June 24th 2010 by Molly Wood, Executive Editor, CNET News.

A similar lesson exists for Apple as to how it tailors it products to a market, both in the United States of America and Internationally that is increasing scrutinizing its products and looking for even the tiniest flaws to exploit so as to attack the companies, as Google and FaceBook all to well knows from FaceBook’s past foibles as stated in the article “FaceBook's follies: A brief history”, published May 13, 2010 4:00 AM PDT by Caroline McCarthy, CNET News - The Social.

Google’s problems with Google Buzz as stated in the article “Buzz backfire: How google pushed me to Facebook”, published March 5, 2010 4:00 AM PST by Stephen Shankland, CNET News - Deep Tech yet of my suggested ideas gone bad along with Google StreetView, now putting Google in legal trouble in several countries over alleged Wi-Fi (IEEE 802.11n) snooping.

This is a problem which co-founder Sergey Brin owned up to as being a problem of Internal Company controls as stated in the article  Google's Brin on Wi-Fi spying: 'We Screwed up'”, published May 19, 2010 3:07 PM PDT by Tom Krazit, CNET News - Relevant Results.

CNET News Executive Editor, Tom Krazit answered a few FAQ (Frequently asked Questions) who neatly summarizing the whole affair as stated in the article “Deciphering Google's Wi-Fi Headache (FAQ)”, published June 1, 2010 4:00 AM PDT by Tom Krazit, CNET News - Relevant Results.

Odd, as capturing and mapping Wi-Fi (IEEE 802.11n) hotspots for a Google Earth Layer would effect create a mapping for Municipal Wi-Fi (IEEE 802.11n) Network to use on the fly.

Man, ALL of my suggestions to these Fortune 500 or Silicon Valley Companies to which John Public has been emailing over the years work, from an engineering and experimental point of view.

But they all have frightening LEGAL problems, mostly related to people’s privacy, which strikes me as odd, mainly due to the fact that I do not see why it is such a big issue especially for Americans who live in the shadow of Hollywood!

Worse, Google, FaceBook and Apple’s large size makes them vulnerable to lawsuits from all quarters for all manner of things, the only people rooting for them of course being Apple own Engineers and fellow employees, Developers, Apple Fanboys and bloggers such myself who periodically write proposals to Apple and other Fortune 500 companies with very simple low cost ideas and suggestions.

I do love it when my ideas work and visibly so, creating great moot point with which to impress females with money, as was Audia was so impressed.

Both Google and Apple did the correct thing, as my Audia Granston used to say, which is to “talk up di ting dem”, as it helps people to come to grips with the fact that as CEO Steve Jobs asserts on Black Friday July 16 2010 as stated in the article “Apple's solution for the iPhone 'death grip': free cases”, published Friday July 16 2010 by Ben Patterson, Technology Writer, Yahoo! News: “Phones aren’t perfect. It’s a challenge for the whole industry.” Add to those challenges Diplomatic challenges.

Apple, like the above mentioned Silicon Valley Companies, is seeking to penetrate the closed and still nascent markets of Russia, The Peoples Republic of China, Korea and Japan to continue growing, always looking for bright ideas from far away resource starved Third World Countries with bright ideas.

Foursquare, who along with the above motley crew of Apple, FaceBook and Twitter will be eventually coming to Jamaica, which John Public has already rented out to the People’s Republic of China and would live in Hell to see happen………..but that is for a future article.

Stay tuned!!

Apple and the Antenna - Black Sabbath and much ado about nothing

Prove all things; hold fast that which is good

New Testament, I Thessalonians 5 vs 21

It seems Friday July 16th 2010 AD was indeed the Black Sabbath, as my girlfriend Audia Granston used to describe a Sabbath after a bad week of work in her cosmetology emporium that used to be located on Toll Gate when she was alive.

It was indeed a Black Sabbath for Apple Inc CEO Steve Jobs, who held an impromptu conference to respond the complaints of a minor few in the Great United States of America as it relates to an issue, which from all accounts and Media reports, is a non-issue, as CEO Steve jobs had and still does maintain.

Oweing to its commonness on other smart phones scientifically documented to lose signal when held a certain way but nonetheless caused Apple stock price to plunge as stated in our own local newspaper “Apple shares plunge after bad review of iPhone 4 sparks recall rumours” published Friday, July 16, 2010 By NIALL FIRTH, The Jamaica Observer.

CEO Steve Jobs castigates the Media for blowing the whole thing out of proportion, seeing as it was a complaint of a minority of customers, as based on Apple Inc. irrefutable in-house statistics that indicate that less than 0.55% of iPhone 4 users worldwide or even in the United States of America alone complained of problems with their shiny new Apple iPhone 4.0.

With only 1.7% of AT&T customers wishing for a refund on their purchase compared with 6% of Apple iPhone 3GS customers in 2009 as stated in the article “Apple's solution for the iPhone 'death grip': free cases”, published Friday July 16 2010 by Ben Patterson, Technology Writer, Yahoo! News, and back then it was due to a A4 Processor overheating problem, which like the new antenna was also an idea of mine.

CEO Steve Jobs in a controlled manner also pointed his own Pet Theory, with which John Public wholeheartedly agrees: due to the new design, fewer people thought to use protection in the form of buying a bumper of case, with Apple own in-house recording that only 20% of customers purchased one of Apple US$30 bumpers, as opposed to 80% for previous models.

An indication in the mind of John Public of how people care their products – and possibly a jab by CEO Steve Jobs at the promiscuous nature and mindset of most people, who like their Plan Contracts, dive headfirst into relationships without wearing condoms, assuming that all is safe based on appearance alone after being warned this is not so at all.

Albeit many may say that Apple is not being truthful, it is good to note that the Media had indeed blown the whole thing out of proportion as CEO Steve Jobs later goes on to assert emphatically: “This is not a large number. This doesn’t jibe with what you read”.

That’s right folks, most of the Apple iPhone issues (for this is not so great as to warrant calling it a problem, as a problem is a permanent, difficult to solve issue) have originated from suggestions I and many other design people have sent in to Apple, which Apple’s PhD wielding scientists promptly flesh out, design, prototype and solving problems as they come along.

Anyone feeling queasy about John Public or other members of the Third World suggesting designs to companies need to rest easy; most Fortune 500 Companies DO read your emailed suggestions, blog posts and even Twitter and Facebook comments (the new Media in case the Old Media people are not getting it) and to them, seeing as how their businesses are customer –oriented and consumer driven, they do take note with a grain of salt.

Your suggestions, hundreds of them are all with merit and if enough persons suggest a similar concept, it merits research, being gauged as a statistical sample that indicates a desired trend among consumers, even if the suggestions, on the face of it, has little scientific merit, as consumer electronics and the satisfaction of consumers with their product purchases is not an exact science.

In short, my suggesting ideas for new products or writing proposals is nothing new, as designers have been submitting design ideas to Apple, HTC, Motorola and other hardware and software companies for years, even from Jamaica, which does have a small developer base, most of whom are just regular programmers and not “rich” people living in Upper St. Andrew.

I would even go out on a limb and assert that the best design ideas come from creative non-engineering people who live in the Developing World or Third World as Jamaica is often called, due to the fact that we have out-of-the-box thinking. This by virtue of our impoverished state, as we are always seeing more low cost, efficient ways to make technology accessible to all .

One such example is the One Laptop Per Child Project which has morphed into Netbooks, another contrived suggestion of mine made as far back as 2002, proving that the pen is indeed mightier than the sword.

The real thing is that Apple Inc CEO Steve Jobs owned up to this nagging Media magnification of the Consumer Reports lackluster rating and non-recommendation of an otherwise excellent product. He has shown remorse.

He is also healthy, if the Media hounds are looking yet for more pounds of flesh or blood in the water. But most importantly he has issued everyone a free bumper or case as we Jamaicans call these rubberized grip accessories, which from a common sense point of view, customer should naturally buy themselves as a means of protecting their investment.

Many of these Apple Fanboys plunked down so much of their hard earned and saved cash a la plastique on a contract of prices ranging from US$199 to US$299 depending on which model you purchased.

This is much the same argument one would make for a luxury car or any other high-end device one purchases: you buy things to care for your purchase and protect it so that it does not get damaged, and bumpers do just that for Mobile phones.

To further cement my point, the antenna actually improves the signal reception of the Apple iPhone 4.0 on Telecom Provider AT&T’s Broadband Wireless Network. In-house testing from Apple Inc. and its eighteen (18) PhD wielding scientists and their US$100 million anechoic test chambers confirmed long ago.

Hence the basis for the inclusion of my External Loop Antenna Design and basic non-scientific tests by PC World as stated in the article “iPhone 4's Antenna Boosts Voice and Data Rates, With One Big Flaw”, published Friday, June 25, 2010 05:38 AM PDT by Mark Sullivan, PC World.

Even the Consumer Reports own testing in its anechoic chambers indicate the same improvement in the reception of the phone and verifying it as an otherwise excellent device with much improvements.

The SOLE issue that they had was the fact that if held in a manner where the lower left hand side of the Apple iPhone 4.0 had the antenna shorted out, the phone lost signals and this controlled experiment supposedly was replicable under various conditions by various other testing facilities.

Thus confirming prior reports of the Apple iPhone antenna issue based on anecdotal reports as stated in my blog article entitled “Apple iPhone and the Loop Antenna - Strange Encounters of the Third Kind” and explained to be more of a physics related problem as stated in the article “Appleantenna issue a "physics problem", not a software problem”, published June 30, 2010 1:05 PM PDT by Erica Ogg, CNET News - Circuit Breaker.

Already Apple had pointed out problems do exist with the way in which the signal bars are displayed and the inaccuracy of its display as stated in the article “Apple 'stunned' to find iPhones show too many bars”, published Friday July 2 2010, Associated Press, Yahoo! News which Apple has been at pains to point out, is not Industry standardized which is true.

Still the Media poke holes in this explanation as stated in the article “Poking holes in Apple's iPhone 4 antenna explaination”, published July 2, 2010 8:58 AM PDT by Marguerite Reardon, CNET News - Signal Strength in the face of evidence, albeit anecdotal, that it is an antenna issue knowing the signal bar display is also an issue.

Which, genuinely, is in need of standardization in much the same way that the image quality from digital cameras need to be quality assessed as stated in the article “Help coming for judging phone camera quality”, published March 24, 2010 10:26 AM PDT by Stephen Shankland, CNET News - Deep Tech.

A complaint article is coming on that soon…………..

Curiously enough, while the Media is making much ado about nothing for Apple Inc CEO Steve Jobs and giving him unnecessary Media coverage about his company and its impending lawsuits as stated in the article “Lawsuits Cite Antenna Problems with Apple iPhone 4”, published Thursday July 1 2010 by Barry Levine, newsfactor.com for Yahoo! News.

It’s good to note that his company’s stock price is back on the upswing and on a path to regain most of its shareholder value after losing nearly US$5.00 after the Media circus started by the Consumer Reports misrepresentation.

With the free US$29 bumpers issued however, Apple may actually be setting a trend that ironically smart phone market (US and Internationally) started by Blackberry maker RIM (Research in Motion) by giving its customer complementary leatherette cases with plans eventually to issue its own custom styled bumper, as Apple Inc CEO Steve Jobs free gesture seems to mimic.

Which should cost him about US$180 million, assuming US$5 per case based on an estimated sale of thirty six million (36,000,000) projected sales between now and the Summer of 2011 as stated by analyst Piper Jaffray's Gene Munster.

The fact that he has faced the issue head on and held the Press Conference for the Media hounds and expressed remorse was enough to soothe the most vengeful of spirits, especially in light of the fact that overall, Apple Inc bagged close to US$ 5.9 billion in 2009 with a decent payout of US$1 billion to Apple App Developers.

Making John Public realize that all this Media circus may be just for show to satisfy everyone who wanted to see Apple vulnerable, a show which they got, and a stage from which Apple has departed and moved on to design better things.

It is good to note that smart phone sale are moving so briskly, that they is a shortage even among rival smart phones on the rival Telecom Provider Network Verizon and Telecom Provider Sprint as stated in the article “The Summer of the smart phone shortage”, published July 13, 2010 4:00 AM PDT by Marguerite Reardon, CNET News - Signal Strength.

Which for the first time has a trio of potential Apple iPhone killers, four (4) to be precise, all from two (2) manufacturer, one being HTC using its SnapDragon processors (processor name being my suggestion to HTC, I am one busy e-mailer!!) and the other being Motorola, which ironically makes the A4 chipset for Apple devices, all designs having the same form large hand sized 4” screen form factor that John Public had suggested to them via email.

HTC Evo 4G on Telecom Provider Sprint 4G Wireless Broadband Network, HTC Droid Incredible 4G on Telecom Provider Verizon 4G Wireless Broadband Network and the Motorola Droid and its cousin the renamed Motorola Droid X on Telecom Provider Verizon 4G Wireless Broadband Network.

Our local Telecom Provider Digicel, soon to launch their WiMaX 4G Mobile (IEEE 802.16d) Wireless Broadband Network, will re-brand the Motorola Droid as the Motorola Mainstream and is banking on to deflate the air out of Telecom Provider CLARO sails as it relates to the now obviously popular and unstoppable Apple iPhone 4.0.

Meanwhile the Apple iPhone 3GS is now significantly reduced in price to US$99 on a Contract Plan as stated in the article “Get a new 16HB iPhone 3GS for US$97”, published May 25, 2010 5:18 AM PDT by Rick Broida CNET News - The Cheapskate .

Info based of course on information from one of Digicel’s Brand Managers who made the declaration while introducing the recently launched Jus Buss Promotion, their lead-up to the Digicel Broadband launch Smile Jamaica TVJ on Friday July 9th 2010, Television Jamaica.

Stay tuned……….for in the USA, the Smart Phone Wars have begun and in Jamaica, the data Wars have begun, as Dekal Wireless sees blood in the water………..

Alternative Energy and Aviation - Flight of the Navigator is Still Big Oil

What animal goes on four legs in the morning, two at noon and three in the evening?

The Riddle of the Sphinx, solved by Oedipus

Senator Barack Obama, President of the United States of America, is currently locked in a meeting with the British Prime Minister, David Cameron (do they have senators in the British Parliamentary system……research time!) based on the news article on The Journal, aired Wednesday July 21st 2010 5:00 AM, DW-TV on Television Jamaica.

They are apparently in their first trans-Atlantic meeting, but a black cloud, made mostly of oil, is nebulous and ominous as storm clouds over the two men, as BP, the British Oil Giant, is responsible for the worst ecological disaster in the history of the United States of America. What is most ironic, is that the day before, the Alaskans were protesting that Senator Barack Obama, President of the United States of America was being unrealistic, even alluding to him as a “tree-hugger” as stated in the news article on The Journal, aired Tuesday July 20th 2010 5:00 AM, DW-TV on Television Jamaica.

Which is not surprising, as he did go ahead with the promised six (6) month moratorium on Offshore Oil drilling as stated in the article “Obama: End dependence on fossil fuels”, published Wednesday June 2010, By JULIE PACE, Associated Press Writer, Yahoo! News.

Despite opposition from the Supreme Courts as stated in the article “Judge blocks Gulf offshore drilling moratorium”, published Tuesday June 22 2010 by MICHAEL KUNZELMAN, Associated Press Writer, Yahoo! News.

Big Oil apparently “Big Oil strikes back, slams Obama’s drilling plan”, published Tuesday June 22 2010 by JANE WARDELL and JENNIFER QUINN, Associated Press Writers, hoping that a renewed proposal will be more amenable to the Supreme Courts position that his ban is in effect a knee-jerk reaction to an industry that contributes taxes to the United States of America Economy.

Albeit John Public knows it that in the short term it is in the best interest of the American to keep this economy going, John Public cannot help but wonder at the amusing irony of Senator Barack Obama, President of the United States of America investing so heartily in the Solar Energy Race to the tune of US$1 billion (US$1,000,000) as stated in the article “Obama commits billions to solar firms”, published July 4, 2010 11:34 AM PDT by Reuters, CNET News - Green Tech

Big Oil, those “lovers of money” who are also investing heavily in the Bio-Fuel Industry, with an aim to beat Brazil, the current world leader in Bio-Fuels based on a recent report by Hart Energy Consulting a stated in the article “PetroAlgae signs deal with Indian Oil”, published November 5, 2009 6:55 AM PST by Candace Lombardi, CNET News - Green Tech. Indian Oil in India investing in the soon-to-explode Bio-Fuel Industry, in light of recent development on the world oil market, it appears that according to the article IEA official warns of shrinking oil supplies: Report”, Sunday August 2nd 2009, 9:04 pm ET, AFP, Yahoo! News.

Oil production is set to peak in the year 2015. To put that in plain English, that means that the oil production would have reached its maximum and cannot be increased to meet up with increasing world demand. This article’s dire warning were recently backed up by statements by Sir Richard Branson of Virgin as stated in the article “World faces oil crunch by 2015”, published Sunday 14 February 2010, AFP, The Jamaica Herald

Which effectively means that we must go Renewables by 2015AD – or face the collapse of our Social Order as we live in a world dependent on cheap Fossil Fuel based Energy.

Exxon Mobile thinks so too, and is also plunking down big bucks, as the Americans would say, to get in on the action since last year 2009 as stated in the article “ExxonMobile invests in algae Bio-Fuel project”, published Tuesday July 14 2009, 2:29 pm ET Yahoo! News, WASHINGTON AFP

This is similar to the PetroAlgae project, basically involving fish eating algae and the processing them for biodiesel, for which there is a huge demand, as their has been a trending for years in Europe towards biodiesel. Hedging their bets on the Energy future is what John Public suspects. In fact the Government of the United States of America Department of Agriculture and Department of Energy have been jointly giving grants to researchers and engineers in the Bio-Fuel Sector since 2010AD.

This to develop Bio-Fuels versions of:

  1. Gasoline
  2. Diesel
  3. Jet Fuel

Anhydrous Ethanol production that doesn’t involve the use of corn, merely organic material or in some cases sewage as stated in the article “'Green' gas and diesel get boost in Bio-Fuel grants”, published December 4, 2009 12:33 PM PST by Martin LaMonica, CNET News - Green Tech.

All this despite the fact that LNG (Liquid Natural Gas) is cheaper than Alternative Energy Sources such as wind and solar as stated in the article Solar, Wind feel the heat from low natural-gas prices”, published January 29, 2010 12:43 PM PST by Martin LaMonica, CNET News - Green Tech, a more direct link to Big Oil, who now appears to either be playing with a fixed hand or just simply is a good Hedge Fund investor.

With all this money moving around, be it Venture Capitalist money or Government of the United States of America Venture Capital money or Big Oil Venture Capital Money in the Alternative Energy Sector, be it in Solar or Bio-Fuel, John Public will even go out on a limb as far as to say that Senator Barack Obama, President of the United States of America, Big Oil and Prime Minister David Cameron are merely acting while shuffling money around among themselves, jostling for good positions in the next big moneymaker before the bomb drops as it relates to the truth about the level of oil reserves in Saudi Arabia.

The smoking gun?

IEA official warns of shrinking oil supplies: Report”, Sunday August 2nd 2009, 9:04 pm ET, AFP, Yahoo! News stating that Saudi Arabian Oil reserves are shrinking and Peak Oil is upon us by 2015. Mere days later, like a good who-dun-it novel, Brunei later in August of 2009 began the building of a solar power plant as stated in the article “Oil-Rich Brunei to have solar power plant”, published Thursday August 6 2009, 3:33 am ET, AFP, Yahoo! News.

This should have struck John Public and the rest of the world following the Oil Futures Market as being decidedly odd, as with supposedly billions of gallons of oil still untapped, why would they be seeking to conserve, being as they had an abundance of oil supposedly able to last for the next 200 years?

Even more eyebrows should be raised at increasing interest in the use of Nuclear Power for Civilian Power by the Arabs, who have been having talks about setting up their own regional Arab Atomic Agency to legitimize nuclear proliferation by Iran ostensibly for Civilian Power as stated in the article “Arab Atomic Energy agency proposed”, published Monday March 29th 2010, AFP, The Jamaica Observer.

European Union, which normally depends on Oil and Gas from Russia, investing untold billions in:

  1. Wind as stated in the article “Europe's 'Supergrid' hopefuls cast fate to the wind”, published March 8, 2010 6:48 AM PST by Reuters, CNET News - Green Tech and as stated in the article “GE announces major wind investment in Europe”, published March 25, 2010 9:13 AM PDT by Candace Lombardi, CNET News - Planetary Gear
  2. Solar Energy as stated in the article “400-billion-euro plan to pump African solar power to Europe”, published Monday July 13 2009, 4:18 pm ET by Laure Fillon, Yahoo! News

So the news of the development of solar powered planes also falls into this odd turn of the United States of America. The US Military has developed drones that fly using fuel cells as far back as 2009 as stated in the article “Fuel efficient spy plane for sale”, published August 6, 2009 7:51 AM PDT by Candace Lombardi, CNET News - Planetary Gear and as recently as 2010 as stated in the article “Phantom Eye 'spy plane' unveiled”, published Thursday July 15 2010, BBC News.

But the recent twenty four (24) hour test of an all solar powered plane as stated in the article “Solar 24-hour test flight starts”, published Wednesday July 7th 2010, BBC News which ended successfully as stated in the article “Solar plane's night test success”, published Thursday July 8th 2010, BBC News is a foreboding of things to come. It speaks of a world of flight using solar power and if anything, this early test with a successful night flight may bode well for the development of commercial aircraft that are completely solar powered in the future.

No doubt the solar panels are designed to use radiation Energy from ambient light, unless the aircraft plans to fly in the upper stratosphere all the time above the clouds where the sun is always shining. This use of fuel cells, solar panels and hydrogen being touted as environmentally friendly alternatives is nonetheless at an experimental stage, as the current aviation trending appears to be the usage of Bio-Fuel replacements for gasoline, diesel and in the case of aircraft, jet fuel, which is kerosene with LNG and its close variant LPG (Liquid Petroleum Gas) being cheaper and more readily available, again a coup for Big Oil.

Even space travel, which Senator Barack Obama, President of the United States of America has laid claims to reducing spending on not only Space Exploration at NASA (National Aeronautical Space Administration) by privatization of the delivery of payloads e.g. Commercial and Military Satellites into space by utilizing the same Military Contractors to:

  1. Build reusable spacecraft to accomplish the job of the ageing, outdated and inefficient STS Shuttle Program
  2. Focusing NASA on robotic explorations of the Solar System
  3. Establish a permanent Moon Base and putting a Man on Mars by 2020

This as expounded in the article “Is NASA's New Space Plan Really that Radical?”, published Tuesday March 2 2010 by Clara Moskowitz, Senior Writer SPACE.com, Yahoo!.

Space Exploration may actually be going green thanks to solar power when in space, but LNG for reusable airplanes developed the Military Contractors to replace NASA.

The use of the stream of charged particles emanating from the Sun in the solar wind has been demonstrated by the Japanese using their aptly named iKaros spacecraft as stated in the article “Japan unfurls solar sail in space”, published Friday June 11th 2010, BBC News, which deployed its “solar sail”, a deployment confirmed via a floating mini-camera as stated in the article “Mini-camera pictures solar sail”, published Wednesday June 16th 2010, BBC News

Thus this proves that this type of propulsion is feasible, but the return trip will be either achieved by Hydrogen gas produced from water stored on board or CNG (Compressed Natural Gas) stored on board, whichever is lighter and cheaper and more feasible, which from the prices currently is LNG. Solar planes and solar planes using charge particles and LNG still beat them on price, ensuring Big Oil’s place in the Energy mix of the future, or at least for another two hundred (200) years, the estimated lifespan of LNG reserves.

Thus like the Sphinx I pose a riddle: Who is planning all of this yet is with power and powerless all at the same time and will we ever be rid of Big Oil and switch either to a Hydrogen Economy or and Electron Economy?

A puzzle then as John Public munches on his chocolate rabbit ears……….as flight will never be the same again, it too caught up in the Alternative Energy hype.

Alternative Energy and All-Electric Cars - the Next must-have Gadget for 2011

God offers to every mind its choice between truth and repose

Emerson, Essays: Intellect

It would seem that Big Oil loves this time of the season as apparently they are getting the best of both worlds, both from a financial point of view and in terms of attention.

Granted, BP, the poster child for corporate irresponsibility, has created the worst ecological disaster when its Deep Horizon Oil Rig off the Coast of Louisiana exploded, killing nearly eleven (11) workers and after expending over US$1 billion (US$1,000,000,000) they are the main talking point of Washington and Senator Barack Obama, President of the United States of America and Prime Minister of Britain, David Cameron.

On the financial front, things look bleak for the company from a Stock Market point of view, with the possibility of further taxes coming as suggested by the Democrats as stated in the article “Democrats propose further tax hike on offshore oil”, published Tuesday June 8 2010 by ANDREW TAYLOR, Associated Press Writer, Yahoo! News.

It seems the Democrats on Capitol Hill have been swinging their tax-axe of late their latest plan being to tax internet transactions as stated in the article “Democrats push for new Internet sales taxes”, published July 2, 2010 12:28 PM PDT by Declan McCullagh, CNET News - Politics and Law, making Senator Audley Shaw, Minister of Finance earlier in 2009 look like an amateur.

The fact is that the company is so heavily investing in LNG, the future preferred fuel to power the Alternative Energy future after 2015, even in Space

With Investments like other Big Oil companies into slot-in replacements for gasoline, diesel and jet fuel (kerosene) and ongoing research and development in making Anhydrous Ethanol from organic biomass waste instead of using good farm land, it would appear to John Public from an investor point of view that now is the best time to invest in an oil company, especially BP.

BP’s stock price has fallen so low, that more tepid risk savvy shareholders can now buy up shares that other scared fickle investors are throwing away cheap and hedge their bets, as BP is hedging its investments, that they will not only rebound and recover, but will see an increase in profits towards 2015.

For the record, that is how Investor Warren Buffett, a principal investor in BYD China and Hedge Fund Guru as stated in he article “BYD Dreams of Electric Cars”, published June 28, 2010, 3:10PM EST By Inder Sidhu, BusinessWeek - BOOK EXCERPT

Carlos Slim Helu, owner of Latin American Telecom Provider CLARO and various other interests in Mexico and Latin America as stated in the article “World's richest man, Carlos Slim, a born wheeler-dealer”, published Thursday 11 2010 by Noel Randewich, Yahoo! News made their wealth this way: betting big on failed businesses and stock market losers, especially if it has to do with the future, as economic protuberances do not last very long, usually less than five (5) years to a decade (10 years), which is acceptable for most VC (Venture Capitalists).

Throw in the fact that the Government of the United States is committing billions to Silicon Valley start-ups in Bio-Fuels as stated in the article “'Green' gas and Diesel get boost in Biofuel grants”, published December 4, 2009 12:33 PM PST by Martin LaMonica, CNET News - Green Tech

Solar power too as stated in the article “Obama commits billions to Solar Firms”, published July 4, 2010 11:34 AM PDT by Reuters, CNET News - Green Tech, all with a connection to Big Oil and the truth slowly begins to reveal itself to you.

Thus an explanation is provided for some of the past strange investments by VC’s. But the investment by Warren Buffett in BYD China is possibly the strangest of them all, as BYD China is a maker of mobile phone batteries.

Could it be that Warren Buffett his hedging a bet on a future explosion or mass adoption of the All-Electric Car in the Auto industry?

John Public turns his spotlight on Brian Cooley, Senior Editor of CNET’s area of expertise – the American and now International love affair with automobiles.

All-Electric Vehicles like it or not, may well be the next big consumer electronic toy of the future, assuming that Warren Buffett has been following the news and its favorable ranting on the subject. Granted, John Public is a latecomer to the subject of Bio-Fuels and All-Electric Vehicles

This only recently caught my eye because of the sudden interest by the United States of America Department of Agriculture and Department of Energy joint venture capital funding of Bio-fuel start-ups in Silicon Valley in 2009 as stated in the article “'Green' gas and Diesel get boost in Biofuel grants”, published December 4, 2009 12:33 PM PST by Martin LaMonica, CNET News - Green Tech.

This VC money was specifically earmarked to combat the problem Silicon Valley start-ups producing Anhydrous Ethanol to make E85 from corn getting Government of United States of America Department of Agriculture Farm Subsidies, which was unfair to farmers, as it was driving up the price of corn on the World Market.

Even with subsidies, their prices per bushel were not competitive against Corn growing Powerhouses such as the People’s Republic of China, who literally flood America with cheap agricultural produce, putting some of them on the verge of bankruptcy.

It also created in some instance a shortage of corn, pushing up the price of corn even further. Add to the fact that Anhydrous Ethanol production from corn is inefficient, oweing to the fact that the process converts corn to HFCS (High Fructose Corn Syrup) and then has the yeast anaerobically digest this sugary meal to produce ethanol instead of processing the entire plant from cob to leafy green stalk in one step.

This is by using solar pyrolysis and then use enzymes or genetically modified bacteria to digest the pyrolized hydrocarbon “soup”, and you get a picture of Silicon Valley investors taking the Government of United States of America Department of Agriculture for a long ride on a very slippery ecologically and economically unsustainable Energy Road.

This greatly explains the Government of United States of America Department of Agriculture and Department of Energy joint venture capital push and its renewed emphasis as a means of placating farmers, already reeling from the four (4) year mysterious dying-off of American Honeybees, ominously names CCD (Colony Collapse Disorder) as stated in the article “Bees in more trouble than ever after bad winter” published Wednesday March 24, 8:05 am ET By GARANCE BURKE and SETH BORENSTEIN, Associated Press Writers, Yahoo! News.

Thus they are making sure that these Silicon Valley “city-slickers” are not taking the Government of the United States, American Farmers and Taxpayers for a long ride. Since then, John Public’s interest has captivated by the Biofuel Industry and I have been following most of the news with much aplomb, as Big Oil seems to be the source of all the money behind these investments, albeit John Public has no empirical proof.

The earliest sign of the trend towards any form of All-Electric Transportation, however, that caught my eye as such was a story involving Tour de France triple Winner Lance Armstrong inviting people with him on a bike ride in Glasgow's Paisley district on August 2009 via Twitter

This later went on to posit the trend and increased popularity of bicycling – or at least “lazy” recreational bicycle riding involving electrically powered bicycles, also called e-bicycles or e-bikes as stated in the article “Electric Bike Sales are Zooming ahead”, published August 24, 2009, 11:46AM EST by Damian Joseph, BusinessWeek - DESIGN.

This latest way of commotion, unlike the futuristic Segway, is more of a motor to help give riders an invisible hand when going up steep slopes, and is not really meant to replace motorcycles, which ironically also have been going electric, examples being the iconic Italian motorcycle, and my dream motorcycle that I always wished to own, especially since I saw Lizzie Maguire in The Lizzie McGuire Movie (2003) and then recently Kim Kardashian and Lady Gaga in the song Eh, Eh riding one: the Vespa.

As this was Businessweek, I took this news with a grain of salt, as a trending towards electric vehicles in motor cycles is natural owing to their more efficient transfer of power due to their simple drive train, the ease of charging them for a regular electric outlet and even better, the ease of their design.

As one only need off-the-shelf electric motors, inverters and batteries to make an electric bike, which only has itself and the passenger and his pillion rider as load to carry, thus extending the time between battery recharges, a bit of common sense reasoning if ever there was one.

But again, John Public just did not see this as a bell weather that indicated a coming trending towards All-Electric Cars, oweing to lack of the above advantages due to the weight of the motor car.

In addition, the entire buzz seemed to be about flex- fuel vehicles, which can run on almost any fuel due to the engines design as stated in the article “Flex-fuel Vehicles”, viewed Thursday July 22 2010, Wikipedia, from E85 to LNG (Liquid Natural Gas) and Brazil and Sweden first and second respectively in the adoption of the use of E85

The United States of America a distant third, ironically heavily investing in Anhydrous Ethanol Production from corn, complete with all the aforementioned problems and yet still having very few gas outlets that carried the fuel and worse, refusing to increase the quotas for the import of Anhydrous Ethanol to make up the obvious shortfall.

There have been a few promising signs of an All-Electric Vehicle, but again due to the fact that off-the-shelf use of batteries, motors and inverters could not sufficiently carry the weight of a full car for any great distance it use was mainly restricted to vehicles that only travel short distances and deliver lightweight products, its adoption would depend on further research into power trains and battery technologies. Additionally recharging station, like E85 filling stations, are a novelty.

Then the unexpected happened.

Ford Motor Company, which had the distinction of inventing the first commercially viable production line vehicle, which ironically, was also a flex-fuel vehicle able to be powered using even moonshine [illegally produced vodka], retrofitted one of their vans and re-branding it the Transit Connect Electric.

This is a true All-Electric Vehicle designed to be used by fleet operators which they debut at the Chicago Auto Show with an eye on a 2011 launch along with the Ford Electric as stated in the article “Ford to debut the all-electric Transit Connect van”, published February 9, 2010 11:21 AM PST by Lance Whitney, CNET News - The Car Tech blog.

Throw in the survey into the mix that Consumers found electric cars interesting thought concerns merely centered on performance issues, as John Public surmises and not necessarily buying an All-Electric Car for its “gadgetry goodness” and you have a situation where interest is there but not the money, especially in 2010, the year of the Global Recession and reduced spending and belt tightening.

Obviously, the Government of the United States of America would have to give subsidies to Consumers and Automakers to encourage the adoption of All-Electric Vehicles despite all that they can do for the environment as intoned by the article “Will 'fun-factor' or mandates drive electric car sales?”, published March 6, 2010 1:56 PM PST by Martin LaMonica, CNET News - Green Tech.

More good news came with the Consumer Reports National Survey Center reporting than more Americans were interested in an All-Electric Vehicle on their next purchase with 26% saying that they are like to do so and 7% making their declaration more definitive and concise stopping short of confirming a purchase as stated in the article “Survey: Consumers intrigued by electric cars”, published March 19, 2010 8:53 AM PDT, by Martin LaMonica, CNET News - Green Tech.

Albeit not scientific as far as John Public is concerned, as it a random phone survey involving 1,752 adults, nonetheless it was an interesting bell weather for an industry looking for some news to validate any money being spent on research into drive trains and battery technologies, this time with an aim to make them commercially viable, Global Recession be damned.

Albeit not really a positive survey, it points to the main sticking points Customer have with All-Electric Vehicles: driving range and cost, which is prohibitively high as designs were not a big issue. Prices on par with regular vehicles would them as common as washing machines or cell phones as hopefully opined in the article “Will electric cars spread like cell phones or washing machines?”, published May 14, 2010 11:49 AM PDT by Martin LaMonica, CNET News - Green Tech by Deloitte Consulting.

This indicates an adoption of All-Electric Vehicles in the United States of America of 2% to 5.6% by 2020, numbering between 285,000 and 840,000 units. Using the Nissan Leaf or Tesla Model S, both All-Electric Vehicles another analyst Credit Suisse estimates 335,000 All-Electric cars by 2020 while Citi forecasts more than 1 million (1,000,000) and the Traffic Safety Administration says 750,000.

Deloitte consultant Rebecca Ranish puts in perspective, comparing the adoption of All-Electric Vehicles to washing machines and dryers, which were luxury items until as she put it, “The telephone, the radio, the refrigerator were all reliant on infrastructure to support adoption and in some cases may have been slowed by infrastructure. Electric vehicles will have a similar series of challenges”.

And like the Apple iPhone, consultant Robert Hill is quoted as saying that “There are plenty of early adopters, but the real question is about the early majority. That segment is big enough to start a mass adoption curve”, indicative of a typical market driven by early-adopters, much like smart phones were back in early 2007.”

This talk seems to be resonating with the Auto Industry as the Nissan Leaf and the Chevy Volt, both All-Electric Vehicles are set to debut in Summer of  2011 as stated in the article “Eclectic Electrics”, published May 13, 2010, 5:00PM EST, BusinessWeek - FEATURES.

However, it is the Nissan Leaf as described in the article “Nissan Leaf projected to be in the black”, published April 30, 2010 5:44 AM PDT by Reuters, CNET News - Green Tech as well as in the article “Nissan begin limited test-drives for Leaf EV” published June 11, 2010 6:32 AM PDT by Reuters, CNET News - Green Tech.

The 2011 Nissan Leaf now packs a noisemaker to make its otherwise stealthy approach have a presence as stated in the article “Nissan Leaf brings the noise”, published June 11, 2010 9:51 AM PDT by Wayne Cunningham, CNET News - The Car Tech blog.

This vehicle is now able to achieve a driving range of 100 kilometers as stated in the article “Nissan Leaf has 100-mile range -  give or take 40 percent”, published June 21, 2010 10:43 AM PDT by Automotive News, CNET News - The Car Tech blog that is expected to bring the hype on the same level as the Apple iPhone did for smart phones in the Telecom Industry with the Chevy Volt being the Google and the Toyota Prius the Blackberry of the Auto Industry, setting the stage for an interesting battle next year 2011.

Other vehicles abound as Toyota is converting its lightweight RAV 4 into an All-Electric Vehicle as stated in the article “Toyota taps Tesla to bring back electric RAV4”, published July 16, 2010 5:12 AM PDT, by Martin LaMonica CNET News - Green Tech.

ZAP, like the Ford Motor Company, is Silicon Valley start-up famous for their vehicle conversions of ordinary vehicles to flex-fuel, Hybrid or All-Electric Vehicles as stated in the article “A day at Zap: The Future of Electric Fleet cars has arrived”, published July 1, 2010 12:53 PM PDT by Suzanne Ashe, CNET News - The Car Tech blog is teaming up with Zhejiang Jonway Automobile to deliver a Korean Taxi.

This via its Korean distribution partner, Samyang Optics as stated in the article “ZAP to display its electric cars at EV Korea”, published July 15, 2010 2:15 PM PDT by Suzanne Ashe, CNET News - The Car Tech blog.

The Ford Focus Electric will also debut in 2011 and Warren Buffett investment in electric battery maker BYD China is set to pan out in 2011 with a commercially viable All-Electric Vehicle as stated in the article “BYD Dreams of Electric Cars”, published June 28, 2010, 3:10PM EST by Inder Sidhu, BusinessWeek - BOOK EXCERPT.

But the most significant milestone in my eyes that is definitely a sure sign of the coming of All-Electric Vehicles in the Summer of 2011 is the installation of the first Industry standardized Electric Charging Station by Coulomb Electric in the Big Apple otherwise known as NYC (New York City) with plans to install 4,600 such chargers in Austin, Texas, Detroit; Los Angeles, New York; Orlando, Florida, Sacramento, California, the San Jose/San Francisco Bay Area, Redmond, Washington and Washington, D.C as stated in the article “First public EV charging station opens in NYC”, published July 15, 2010 1:47 PM PDT by Liane Yvkoff, CNET News - The Car Tech blog.

This in cricket terms, is a follow-on of the news of standards for the installation of electric charging stations easily located using a GPS enabled smart phone and an App installed such as on the Apple iPhone, Google Android or Blackberry smart phones as stated in the article “Network Web-Savvy EV-charging stations on tap”, published June 2, 2010 7:57 AM PDT by Martin LaMonica, CNET News - Green Tech.

Throw in the endorsement of Senator Barack Obama, President of the United States of America of the Chevy Volt as stated in the article “Obama slips behind the wheel of the Chevy Volt”, published July 16, 2010 12:52 PM PDT by Suzanne Ashe, CNET News - The Car Tech blog and the choice offered between truth and merely laying back [repose] or with your head in the sand is on offer to every American by the Summer of 2010.

But what of Jamaica? Are All-Electric Vehicles apart of Senator James Robertson, Minister of Energy and Mining Energy Sector Liberalization Energy Policy? Stay tuned form my next article………
