Apple vs Google - The FellowShip of the Ring

In the land of Mordor where Shadows Lie
One Ring to bind them
One Ring to find them
One Ring and in the Darkness find them
In the land of Mordor where Shadows Lie

From the book Lord of the Rings by J.R. Tolkien

Despite all the noise coming from the floors of the E3 (Electronics Entertainment Expo) Game Convention, which in the humble opinion of the author of the article “Modest proposal: Open E3 to public”, published June 14, 2010 4:00 AM PDT by Dan Ackerman, CNET News ( needs to open its doors to the American Public, much as the Annual Denbigh Agricultural Show in Denbigh, Clarendon, coming in August of 2010, has been “pimping” itself to city-slickers from Kingston, Montego Bay and other parts of Jamaica to come and see the sights sounds and smells (albeit that would be best left out!!) of what Jamaican Farmers have to provide in terms of locally made, organically Grown produce, a plug here for the movie Food Inc, that should scare Americans into considering what it is they are eating. It is clear that the Apple iPad and its gaming potential is real as stated in the article “iPhone vs iPad: 20 games compared”, published April 6, 2010 4:00 AM PDT by Josh Lowensohn CNET News - Web Crawler and further explained in my blog articles “Apple Ipad and the future of computing”, ( and Microsoft’s Project Natal as presented with much fanfare by MTV and the acrobatic and innovative Circue de Soliel as described in the review article “MTV, Cirque de Soliel to help launch Project Natal”, published May 13, 2010 11:55 AM PDT by Daniel Terdiman, CNET News ( now reincarnated Project Natal as per article “Microsoft’s Project Natal becomes Kinect”, published June 14 2010 by Christopher Null, Technology writer, Yahoo! News (, about which I had already heard about and viewed on YouTube (search term “Project Natal”) and based on images thus far will be a hit despite its rather mundane appearance. Also clear is Sony Move (finally Sony, finally entering the 21st century!!) and Nintendo’s stale news challenge to the dominance of handhelds by the Apple iPhone in the form of the Nintendo DS with 3-D as stated in the article “Nintendo to launch 3D portable game console”, published Tuesday Mar 23, 11:08 pm ET, Yahoo! News ( to counter the recently re-launched Apple iPhone 4.0 as stated in the article “Report: Apple readying 24 million units of next iPhone”, published May 17, 2010 10:25 AM PDT by Erica Ogg, CNET News - Circuit Breaker and its Sony PS3-esque Game Center as stated in the article “Will iPhone 4.0 derail Microsoft's phone plans?”, published April 9, 2010 10:24 AM PDT by Ina Fried, CNET News - Beyond Binary and confirmed in the video “CNET The AppleByte” aired April 8 2010 by Brian Senior Editor, CNET News (CBS) (, the highlight and possibly the show stealer being Apple’s take on the Video Calling Platform called FaceTime as stated in the video CNET Buzz Report, aired Thursday June 10th 2010, by Molly Wood, Executive Editor, CNET News ( as further elucidated in my blog article “Apple iPhone 4.0 and Video Calling – FaceTime”, ( sets the standard. Additionally, almost every game developer is coming out with 3-D games to support the new 3-D format from HDTV set makers such as Samsung and Panasonic as stated in the article “Samsung, Panasonic start selling 3-D TV's this week”, published Tue March 9 2010, 11:04 am ET, By PETER SVENSSON, AP Technology Write, Yahoo ! News (AP) and Sony, which by now has begun rolling out Sony 3-D HDTV’s as stated in the article “Sony 3D TV's to arrive in June”, published March 9, 2010 8:31 AM PST by Erica Ogg, CNET News - Circuit Breaker (, thus certifying gaming support for the new 3-D platform, dorky headache inducing glasses not withstanding as per video report “CNET News”, aired April 9th 2010, by Brian Cooley, CNET News ( and my analysis in my blog article “Web TV and 3-D TV - towards a more interactive immersive television experience”, ( However, despite my long winded chiming that barely describes a show that I will never attend, something from the noise coming out of the United States of America sounds a lot like the drumbeat of a coming war based on the sound of drumbeats and recent armaments being built up in Mordor. Something is brewing…..something more foreboding than all this technological hype, a nervousness that belies the wry smiles of the participants at the recent tech shows since the start of the year. It seems that the Medes and the Persians are war, namely Apple and Google, once friends, are now enemies. Google vs. Apple, in my opinion, is the only thing new at E3. The Age of Man at an end, as Google will not stop until it has the Ring for which it has long sought, the One Ring to Rule Silicon Valley.

In one orderly army of black and white Apple iPhones as per description in the article “Apple's Endless Expanding App Universe”, published Monday April 26, 2010 By Peter Burrows, BusinessWeek - FEATURES ( we have the Elves [Apple Engineers] and Men [Apple Employees] along with Hobbits [Developers] from the Shire [Silicon Valley, at the foot of Mordor]. The van of the advancing enemy, be that it is Google and its Ring in the form of Google Android OS, their Single Eye sans doppelganger in the form of their Google Chrome and Google Chrome OS logo, would of course be the leader of the Orcs and assorted Trolls and Goblins, being as Google is a hodgepodge of Mobile Smart Phones of various screen sizes due to the increasing dominance of the Google Android Mobile OS Development Platform, evidence from its wide scale adoption by such Handset Vendors such as HTC, ZTE, Dell, Samsung, LG and even Nokia, which has also decided to make its proprietary OS Symbian Open Source and Sony Ericsson as stated in the article “Sony Ericsson shows love for Android” published February 14, 2010 6:18 PM PST by Marguerite Reardon, CNET News - 3GSM blog. Both Apple and Google have the same of every software or device, from browsers to phones. Thus the article “Google’s Chrome OS May Fail Even as It Changes Computing Forever” published Friday July 17, 2009 5:00PM EDT by Tom Spring, PC World ( and the article “Google Chrome OS Could Shake Up PC Market”, published Wednesday June 2 2010 by Jeff Bertolucci Yahoo! News ( imagery is quite apt indeed, inclusive of elephants as can be extrapolated from the articles “Will Google unveil its 'Smart TV' platform this week?”, published Monday May 17 2010, 10:58 am ET by Ben Patterson, Yahoo! News ( “Google tries where other failed: shaking up TV biz”, published
Tuesday May 25 2010 by Yinka Adegoke and Jennifer Saba, Yahoo! News ( and thus this article and the articles as included in this ditty of mine can be regarded as the first warning sounds of the approaching hooves of this Army of conscripts from Google as they make their encampment around Helms Deep where Apple and its valiant Alliance of Elves, Men and Hobbits line wait for the coming battle………….and hopefully Gandalf the White will arrive in time to turn the battle. But with all of Apple’s cards laid out, what else does CEO Steve Jobs aka Gandalf the White (as he is no longer Gandalf the Grey, having died and resurrected to fight yet again!!) have up his sleeve? That I would definitely love to find out……………..for now my lounge chair is pulled out and my lemonade and glasses are out for what in my opinion is the other Big Match aside from a Argentina vs. Germany Final, as the Apple vs. Google Showdown has more of a Video Game feel…….in the Land of Mordor where Shadows Lie.
