How to Login and Change Wi-Fi Password on your Huawei HG8245Q DigicelPlay

What a pickle.

So you forgot the router password to your Digicel Play Router; must be very hard for you, especially when your neighbours are playing “pass round donkey” with your router password. Remember, you can still find it by using my handy tutorial in my blog article entitled “How to find the WiFi password for your Digicel or FLOW Home Network”.

Well I have just the thing; a way to Login to your Digicel Play Router, aka the Huawei HG8245Q DigicelPlay, to change the Wi-Fi Password. This is so as to get those freeloading kids off your Wi-Fi.

Before you begin, you might wanna make some Glow-In-The-Dark Foska Oats, Guinness Lasco Wray and Nephew Rum Ice Cream as described in my aptly title blog article entitled “How to make Glow-In-The-Dark Foska Oats, Guinness Lasco Wray and Nephew Rum Ice Cream”.

So while that’s setting in the fridge, here's how it's done.

How to login to your Huawei HG8245Q DigicelPlay – The Browser is your friend

First, make sure you are using a laptop or desktop computer that's directly connected to the Digicel Play Router. You known, the one that these guys installed for you.

Then type the Internal IP Address of your Huawei HG8245Q DigicelPlay in the Address Bar of your web browser, be it Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox or Internet Explorer.

 

A dialog box appears. Enter the username as Digicel and the password as Digicel.

 

In case you forgot your Huawei HG8245Q DigicelPlay login and password, try these other variations:

Alternately, you can reset your Huawei HG8245Q DigicelPlay router which will reset the login and password as well as any configuration changes that you have made. The procedure is fairly painless, really:

1.      Find the tiny reset button usually located at the back of the router.

2.      Use a paper clip to press and hold the reset button for 10 seconds

3.      Wait until the lights start out blinking and change to solid or vice versa

4.      Let go of the button as the router has been reset to factory settings

The Huawei HG8245Q DigicelPlay Home Screen should appear, which looks like this.

Now to change the Wi-Fi Settings.

How to change the Wi-Fi Settings on your Huawei HG8245Q DigicelPlay router

To change the Wi-Fi Settings on Huawei HG8245Q DigicelPlay router, you'll need to do the following. First click on the top page labelled WLAN. Then in the left sidebar click the link labeled 2.4G Basic Network Settings.

Then follow the following steps to change the Wi-Fi Settings on Huawei HG8245Q DigicelPlay router:

1.      Check the checkmark in the box titled Enable WLAN.

2.      Click New at point if you don't see any SSID Configuration Details.

3.      Enter a new wireless name to identify your network. 

4.      Set Authentication Mode to WPA2 PreSharedKey.

5.      Set the Encryption Mode to AES.

6.      Set the network password which is titled WPA PreSharedKey with a 14 characters alphanumeric passwords e.g. PinkFloyd2357

7.      Set the WPS Mode to the PBC method as it is more secure than the PIN method.

8.      Click the Apply button to save your changes.

Thus, you'll save yourself some heartache by changing your Huawei HG8245Q DigicelPlay router, as you've gotten those pesky freeloaders off your Wi-Fi. Best of all, your Wi-Fi will be a lot faster. Sharing is caring so share this tip with as many of your Digicel Play friends as you can.

ReadyTV's Wireless Cable in Q1 2017 challenges CVMTV, TVJ, FLOW, Digicel and Caricel

Looks like FLOW Horizon and Digicel Play and getting competition in the First Quarter of 2017. And from all the information out there, it appears to be Wireless Cable TV with 4G LTE.

ReadyTV, which is owned by DISL (Digital Interactive Services Limited), will be launching in the First Quarter of 2016 as reported in the article “ReadyTV On Target For 2017 Launch” published Friday November 18, 2016 by Keisha Hill, The Jamaica Gleaner. 

President and CEO of ReadyTV Christopher Dehring has even hinted at plans to launch 4G LTE, once they've established their Wireless Cable TV service in Jamaica. Effectively they're really planning to challenge Caricel, who have already rolled out their modem offering for faster LTE for 2017 as noted in my Geezam blog article entitled “Caricel’s Unlimited Modems implies FLOW and Digicel going Unlimited in 2017”. 

So who are the people behind ReadyTV?

ReadyTV to launch in 2017 – The Rebellious, Energetic, Adaptive, Determined and Yummy company

Located at the Dominica Towers in New Kingston, the acronym stands for “Rebellious, Energetic, Adaptive, Determined and Yummy”, already has board of directors as follows:

1.      Chairman Peter Reid

2.      President and CEO Christopher Dehring

3.      David Cassanova

4.      Orville Burrell (Shaggy)

5.      Gerard Borely

6.      Magnus Johansson

This appears to be an International effort, as Borely, former chief financial officer at Cable and Wireless Caribbean is a Trinidadian and Johansson is Swedish. Also, they're using up a lot of local talent to launch their services to quote President and CEO Christopher Dehring: “We have employed over 15 individuals and they are the ones installing this technology, designing and implementing the network. We are uniquely Jamaican, so much so that our vendors are pleased with the outlook”.

They're already begun to raise capital through Mayberry, an investment company in Jamaica as noted in my Geezam blog article entitled “Digital Interactive Services READYTV Revolution is Cable TV for all Jamaicans”.

They also following through with a ‘5 in 4’ growth projections i.e. 5% of GDP (gross domestic product) growth in four (4) as noted in the article “Dehring says Ready TV is in keeping with ‘5 in 4’ growth plan”, published Friday, November 18, 2016 by Balford Henry, The Jamaica Observer.   

ReadyTV is Wireless HDTV - FLOW, Digicel, CVMTV and Television Jamaica in their Crosshairs

They've already erected one (1) of some planned eighteen (18) DTT (Digital Terrestrial Television) Broadcast towers.

Their plan is dead simple; broadcast in HDTV and sell Wireless Set top boxes for customer to access their Cable Services to quote Christopher Dehring, quote: “This is the first digital broadcast tower in the country and we are aiming to have at least 18 across the island. With this technology, we will join other Caribbean islands, including Haiti and Trinidad, and other countries in Latin America, Europe and the United States that already have a digital broadcast network”.

The tower's transmission power is really strong, as it covers Zone One, which according to ReadyTV, covers the following areas:

1.      Kingston and St Andrew

2.      St Catherine

3.      Clarendon

4.      St Mary

Thus, Cable TV in the future will not only be cheaper, due to the lack of Fiber Optic and Coaxial Cable runs and may even have loads of local programming as I'd predicted in my blog article entitled “How DISL ReadyTV set to deliver Wireless Cable TV with paid Local Jamaican Reality TV Content”. 

Meanwhile the local Broadcasters in Jamaica, CVM TV and Television Jamaica, which is owned by the RJR Communications group, are planning to implement DSO (Digital Switch Over) and go HDTV in 2017 as noted in my blog article entitled “Why the Broadcasting Commission says Digital Switch Over coming to Jamaica in 2018”.

ReadyTV is taking advantage of their lead, as they anticipate that when DSO does occur in 2018, they'll be facing a lot of competition to quote Christopher Dehring: “Think about all those channels that that are vacant now because we are still using analogue. You would be now creating this incredible economy and industry because you have freed up all of this spectrum for many more entrepreneurs to enter the business”.

DTT is spectrally efficient, with up to 15 HDTV quality broadcasts being able to fit into 1 analog 6GHz NTSC (National Television Standards Committee) channel as pointed out by Christopher Dehring, quote: “It is a totally new efficiency from the perspective of distribution because most of our competition is fixed wire services. Imagine the cost of running fibre around the country. We take a single analogue channel and digitise it, and with that digital transition we are able to broadcast 15 high definition channels from that single analogue channel”.

This translates to also faster to set up and a faster roll out in 2017, with customers merely having to purchase a wireless Set top Box from ReadyTV, to quote Christopher Dehring: “It is cable television when you are ready and it is easy to use. Customers can go into a store, purchase a box and connect it to their television and begin viewing right away. It is wireless with instant connection, so customers do not have to wait weeks to be able to access authorised programming for cable television broadcasting in Jamaica”.

Suddenly, I see visions of Executives at FLOW, Digicel, CVMTV and Television Jamaica looking very worried, as if this catches on, 2018, may be too late for them!

Caricel is showing that they're interested in their customer’s welfare in a world of increasing cyberattacks!

They've now joined the GCA (Global Cyber Alliance) as reported in the article “Caricel Joins Global Cyber Alliance”, published Dec 12, 2016 by Caricel.

Caricel certainly isn't making a little thing like a telecom license held them back as noted in my blog article entitled “Symbiote Investments Limited gets DMSL License for Caricel as 5G coming in 2020”. 

The GCA is basically an international watchdog that seeks an alliance with Telecom providers in the ongoing fight by government, businesses and individuals to protect their servers against cyber attacks.

So Caricel is more than welcomed as this shows they're in it for the people and it's not all about the Benjamins, to quote Philip Reitinger, President and CEO of GCA: “I am extremely pleased to welcome Caricel as a Global Cyber Alliance partner.  GCA applauds Caricel's efforts to provide a more secure Internet experience for the citizens and businesses of Jamaica. The GCA is a 501(c)3 organization that was founded in September 2015 by the Manhattan District Attorney's Office, the City of London Police and the Center for Internet Security. Threats such as phishing, malware, spyware and other threats continue to rise, as these faster networks make life super easy for hackers to gain access to data stored on EU (End User) devices such as Laptops, Computers, Tablets and smartphone as well as in company servers.

Not to mention some telecom equiptment makers such as Huawei, ZTE and BLU harvesting our personal information for the Secret Service as well as to guess what we want more accurately as pointed out in my Geezam blog article entitled “How 700 million Chinese Phones with Adups firmware can Spy on You”.

How to boost Speed, Connectivity on a Digicel EX-250 or DX-250 Greenpacket Modem

If have one of these EX-250 or DX-250 Greenpacket Modem from Digicel, chances are you're not going to pick up anything indoors if you live in Westmoreland.

After all, it’s designed for Road warriors on the go who need Broadband Internet on the road or for people who live near to the larger towns; country people still get no love from Digicel as I ranted in my blog article entitled “No Exchange for @Digicel_Jamaica Greenpacket Dx-250 Modem as Data Prices unchanged since 2013”.

But with Caricel Jamaica launching their 4G LTE Modem that designed for Roadwarriors and Students as detailed in my Geezam blog article entitled “Caricel’s Unlimited Modems implies FLOW and Digicel going Unlimited in 2017”, there has been a renewed interest in Digicel Broadband Modems, as Digicel and FLOW are bound to be under pressure to go Unlimited as well.

I predicted that would happen.

Ever since Digicel rolled out their Digicel LTE with no unlimited Data, I did an article on how to get back on the Digicel 4G Broadband trail as detailed in my blog article entitled “Restart your EX-250 or DX-250 Greenpacket Modem as we await Digicel LTE Modems”.

I also did an article on how to boost your Wi-Fi Signal levels for the Digicel Greenpacket DX-250 Modem as detailed in my blog article entitled “How to Increase Digicel Greenpacket DX-250 Modem Wi-Fi Signal and Range”.

So now that Caricel is coming to make 2017 bright, how do you boost signal to the EX-250 or DX-250 Greenpacket Modem?

EX-250 or DX-250 Greenpacket Modem – How to attach an External WiMaX Antenna

The best way is to boost signal via an external antenna. You'll need the following components:

1.      External WiMaX Antenna

2.      U.FL to Reverse Polarity SMA connectors

3.      3/4" Drill Bit

4.      Drill

5.      Sealant

6.      Mounting Brackets

7.      Screws

Here’s a video where he focuses primarily on the EX-250 Greenpacket Modem.

It’s really a very simple installation:

1.      Open up the EX-250 or DX-250 Greenpacket Modem

2.      Remove one of the internal antennas

3.      Bore a hole in the back of your EX-250 or DX-250 Greenpacket Modem

4.      Connect the U.FL to Reverse Polarity SMA connectors

5.      Seal the hole with the self-locking screw on the Coaxial end of the U.FL to Reverse Polarity SMA connector

6.      Install the External WiMaX Antenna

7.      Connect the External WiMaX Antenna coaxial cable to the Coaxial end in the modem

Please not you'll need to play around with the External WiMaX Antenna to find the best CINR and RSSI values to get the best reception, which you can access by logging into the Modem as described in my blog article entitled “How to configure the Wi-Fi on your Digicel 4G Broadband Modem”. 

Make sure to give the External WiMaX Antenna as much elevation as possible using a wooden pole. If you use a metallic structure or if you install it connected to your house, make sure it's properly grounded. You should not only see improved connectivity but also an increase in the speed of your Digicel 4G Broadband if you were already getting a weak signal.

This modification can even be used in a moving vehicle, provided that you have an inverter to power the Digicel EX-250 or DX-250 Greenpacket Modem and the External WiMaX Antenna mounted on the outside of your vehicle.
