STS Atlantis test Forward Osmosis Filtration Device – Moonraker meets Waterworld for Water Sector Liberalization

We never know the worth of water till the well is dry.

I waited quite a while to get around to this story, which by now should be as cold as ice – perfect for preservation on my blog!

Many Americans shed a teary eye for the final flight of the Winged Pegasus that was the STS (Space Transport System) 135, codenamed Atlantis, as it made its final lift off into the heavens on Friday July 8th 2011AD as stated in the article “Shuttle Atlantis rockets into history on final voyage”, published JULY 8, 2011 2:05 PM PDT by William Harwood, CNET News - THE SPACE SHOT.

The article “Atlantis launch a bittersweet end for space shuttle”, published JULY 8, 2011 4:00 AM PDT by William Harwood, CNET News - THE Cutting Edge provides more detail. Video does a better job!

This as the STS-135 Atlantis is testing out a concept that may one day lead to Water Sector Liberalization in Jamaica as stated in the article “Atlantis astronauts to test urine filtration device”, published July 8th 2011 by MIKE DUNN, DigitalTrends.

But first, a moment in time for the STS Astronauts in the few lines and pictures below. Play the theme song for the ending credits James Bond movie Moonraker (1979)!

I took my time, as I know that a lot of angry Americans would love to flame my blog, being as I was one of few foreigners (I am Jamaican!) who endorsed the spending cuts implemented by the Obama Administration that brought about the STS programs demise as my blog articles entitled “Alternative Energy and the Ion Drive Engine - Star Trek and Andromeda” and the article  “Alternative Energy and Daedelus - Avatar and Planet Gliese 581g Next Door pointedly admits.

But akin to the job losses whenever a company closes down in Silicon Valley, Private Sector companies are springing up and may employ those out of work due to STS-135 Atlantis final flight as part of the Obama Initiative to privatize Space Travel and leave the hard exploratory science to NASA (National Aeronautical Space Administration). NASA’s is being made more efficient to the tune of US$19 billion with delivery of payloads e.g. Commercial and Military Satellites into Space being done by the same Military and Commercial Contractors.

The agenda till 2020AD is as follows:

  1. Build reusable spacecraft to accomplish the job of the ageing, outdated and inefficient STS Shuttle Program thus leaving NASA to focus on robotic explorations of the Solar System
  2. Establishing a permanent Moon Base
  3. Putting a Man on Mars by 2020 AD
  4. Deep Space Exploration [beyond our Solar System], both Robotic and Manned

And in keeping with the Space Cowboys (2000) feel of Privatization, Venture Capitalist such as Elon Musk, owner of PayPal and now CEO (Chief Executive Officer) of his latest venture, SpaceX which thus far has successfully tested their Falcon Rocket System and Dragon Capsule as stated in my blog article entitled “NASA and Space X - Little House on the Prairie”, are part of the mix.

So too are Rare Earth Metal Gold diggers such as Dr. Barney Pell, founder of Microsoft Owned-Powerset and his two adventurers-in-chief Naveen Jain of Infospace and Dr. Robert (Bob) Richards who formed a company called Moon Express as stated in my blog article entitled “Obama and Dr. Pell's Moon Express - Fly Me To the Moon, I''ll Drink To That”.

Truly, the spirit of adventure and exploration as embodied by Russian Cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin, the First Man in Space as stated in my blog article entitled “Barack Obama and VC- Funded Space Exploration - The TommyKnockers meet Yuri Gagarin” and my Geezam Blog article entitled “Yuri Gagarin and Obama Space Privatization – How Jamaica Can Benefit” is alive and well, with possible benefits for Jamaica!.

For those of you who are nostalgic, here are a few reminders in picture and videos:

Their final two (2) week mission to the ISS has now ended on Sunday July 21st 2011AD as stated in the article “Mission complete: Atlantis returns, ends shuttle era”, published JULY 21, 2011 5:22 AM PDT by William Harwood, CNET News - THE SPACE SHOT.

The crew said their final goodbyes at the ISS (International Space Station) and left as stated in the article “Atlantis astronauts bid station crew final farewell”, published JULY 18, 2011 10:44 AM PDT by William Harwood, CNET News - THE SPACE SHOT and the article “In bittersweet farewell, Atlantis leaves space station” published JULY 19, 2011 12:44 PM PDT by William Harwood, CNET News - THE SPACE SHOT.

And what would the moment be without pictures as captured in the article “Views from Atlantis' final docking with the ISS (photos)”, published JULY 20, 2011 5:50 PM PDT by James Martin, CNET News - Full Frame!

Now that the STS-135 Atlantis has returned as stated in the article “Mission complete: Atlantis returns, ends shuttle era”, published JULY 21, 2011 5:22 AM PDT by William Harwood, CNET News - THE SPACE SHOT, one of its mission deserves honourable mention.

STS-135 Atlantis astronauts tested a device that may one day be use to purify even urine and other excretory waste to make a great tasting energy drink as stated in the article “Atlantis astronauts to test urine filtration device”, published July 8th 2011 by MIKE DUNN, DigitalTrends

Its practical application in Third World Countries such as in Sub-Saharan Africa where nutrition and starvation are wreaking havoc on the drought stricken population is yet another demonstration of the contribution of Space Exploration and Space Science Technology to the Furtherance of Mankind.

Not to mention this Energy Drink filter being used to empower the idea of Water Sector Liberalization in the future here in Jamaica as described in my blog article entitled Water Security Policy and Water Sector Liberalization Needed to avoid Drought”, previously thought impossible, by aiding in the recycling of household water i.e. toilet, bathroom, sink runoff, and making it potable again.

An elegant solution to a Developed and Developing world problem of accessing potable water, once the technology, now tested in the zero-gravity conditions of space, is scaled up to house size, much as the Apple iPad, my ideas was a scale up of the Apple iPhone!

And it’s packed with nutrition too!

Proof that NASA money is not wasted as STS-135 Atlantis has returned home with a zero-gravity tested Waterworld (1995) concept that can mitigate against starvation among people in places as desolate and bare of water as Outer Space – where our ultimate destiny lies as stated in the article “Elon Musk: Humans should be 'multi-planet species'”, published AUGUST 2, 2011 9:32 AM PDT By Don Reisinger, CNET News - THE DIGITAL HOME.

Sauce to cook another Goose about Private Sector funded Space Exploration! STS-135 Atlantis, take me around the world one more time, Moonraker (1979) style….
