Looks
like my perception of what’s hot and what’s not needs adjustment.
Turns
out Gadgets are in and clothes are out and the more expensive the gadget the
better according to Analyst Piper Jaffray in an unusual study of Technology
Trends among Teenagers (ages 13 to 17) as stated in “iPhones,
not clothes, represent social status for teens, says researcher”, published
May 24, 2014 4:32 PM PDT by Chris Matyszczyk, CNET
News.
According
to their research conducted last April 2014 and cited by International Business
Times in the article “Teen
Clothing Retail Trumped By Gadgets, Food As Status Symbol”, published May
22 2014 10:05 PM By Nadine DeNinno, iBtimes
Teenagers aren't spending on Brand name clothes anymore.
It's
now about smartphones, Tablets and Phablets, particularly Apple iPhones.
According to Research done by Piper Jaffray as stated in “Fickle
teens love Apple more than ever, survey shows”, published April 11, 2014
3:14 PM PDT by Chris Matyszczyk, CNET News:
1.
61% of US teens had iPhones, a 13%
increase from 2013
2.
67% said intend to purchase the Apple
iPhone 6 when it comes out
3.
21% spend their allowance on Food and
dining out
Teenagers more
sophisticated – Have it Your way with a Sapphire Screen Apple iPhone
If
these basic stats gleaned from Piper Jaffray's study prove to be true, it
suggests that US Teenagers are increasingly becoming more sophisticated than
ever. Dining out instead of a Burger King is a serious step-up in their social
Standing as apparently wearing the latest clothing just isn't cutting it
anymore. Especially when many Teenagers customize their wardrobe, wearing
psychedelic knapsacks, sporting torn jeans and hand-painted t-shirts and other
accessories!
Thus
sophistication is all about being more like their adult parents, especially as
it they’d pushed Tessanne Chin to superstardom by winning The Voice back in
December 2013 as stated in my blog article
entitled “Tessanne
Chin is the Winner of the Voice - Princess Kitana #BreadandButter work begins
as March 2014 deadline for Universal Studios album from Mona Tessanne”.
So
the more money you can splash on Dining out and on high-end gadgets such as the
Apple iPhone, the better you chances at getting into the "smart"
crowd as noted in my blog
article entitled “How
to transfer Phone Contacts and Data from your Blackberry to your Apple iPhone
or Google Android smartphone or Tablet”.
What
a difference a year makes for these fickle Teenagers and their tastes in things
that define their High School Drama filled lives!
In
2013 Buzz Marketing said Apple was so yesteryear, with Samsung, HTC and other
smartphone brands taking up the slack from Apple as pointed out in “Apple is done, say
teens”, published January 13, 2013 10:00 AM PST by Chris Matyszczyk, CNET News.
But
that has all changed, possibly due to the fact that the Apple iPhone 6 may soon
be sporting an unscratchable and uber-valuable and pricey Sapphire Screen as
predicted in my blog article entitled
“Apple
and GT Advanced Crystal Technologies building Sapphire Plant in Arizona –
Arizona people working to coat Apple iPhone in Unbreakable Sapphire with
possible Jamaican Bauxite Industry Revival coming”.
Jamaicans following
American Teenagers – CET-free Smarphones, Tablets and Phablets by September
2014
Knowing
Jamaican Teenagers, they’re sure to follow this trend as well.
Already,
I’m seeing where Budget smartphones are going to be all the rage by Tuesday
July 1st 2014 when the CET (Common External Tariff) is removed as
reported in my blog article entitled
“Council
of Trade and Economic Development allows GOJ to remove CET on smartphones - How
CET removal from Phablets is the Perfect Storm for CET-Free Tablets by
Emancipation Day”.
Ditto
too Phablets, which have already been declared CET-free since Thursday May 1st
2014. Since Tablets are technically the same thing, many of which possess VoIP
Calling Capabilities via downloadable Apps, I’ve predicted Tablets will be
CET-free by August 2014.
Phablets
may not be fashion-conscious, but then again, what do adults know of Teenage
fashion Trends? One merely needs to use a hands-free attachment to the phablet
and voila, you have a smartphone masquerading as a Tablet and no-one can tell
you otherwise as it’ll be used in Tablet mode!
By
then in Jamaica, Tablet will become an affordable alternative to Books as the Ministry
of Education and the Ministry of Science, Technology Energy and Mining e-Learning
Project II in Academic Year 2014/2015 which starts September 2014 and ends June 2015
begins as stated in my blog article
entitled “Ministry
of Science and Technology signs four Contractors in March 2014 to procure Tablets
- Test Pilot Project in September 2014 means Teachers can monetize e-books”
So
by September 2014, smartphones, Phablets and Tablets will be affordable and
commonplace, allowing us Jamaicans to catch up with our American counterparts,
even if it is only with low-cost budget gadgets. These Gadgets are sure to make
you the envy of your friends as like American Teenagers, Jamaican Teenagers
catch the Gadget Wave as the Next Big Thing!
Until
Teenagers (ages 13 to 17) change their minds again, of course!!
