“Shipments are steadily increasing as [Apple] has greatly
expanded the Watch's channel footprint internationally. WatchOS 2 has brought
native apps to the platform, and new colors and styles have refreshed the
lineup, but Apple needs to continue to generate demand six months after launch”
Canalys analyst Chris
Jones commenting in a Press Release on the Apple Watch
The Apple Watch continues to grow from strength to strength
and it's not even Christmas yet!
The latest stats from analyst Canalys on Wednesday November
4th 2015 estimate that Apple has sold some 7 million Apple Watches in the Third
Quarter of 2015 as reported in the article “Apple
Watch clocks the competition with 7 million in sales”, published November
5, 2015 by Lance Whitney, CNET News.
This is a three million more than the 4 million smartwatches
sold worldwide in the Second Quarter of 2015 according to analyst Strategy
Analytics as reported in my blog article
entitled “Apple
sells 4 million Apple Watches - How Samsung, Asus, Huawei, LG and Motorola
Empire Strikes back at IFA Trade Show”.
Apple is no beating the more established smartwatch sellers
in the Third Quarter of 2015 as well. According to analyst Canalys, they've
been racking up some impressive shipment numbers in the Third Quarter of 2015:
1. 300,000
Apple Watch units
2. 200,000
Pebble Time Units
Xiaomi and Fitbit still rule the roost when it comes to
fitness trackers, the other segment that falls under the Wearables market along
with smartwatches in the Third Quarter of 2015. So fat Xiaomi $15 Mi Band sold
10 million units in China since launch in July 2015.
Note that these numbers also include the Pebble Time Steel
smartwatch, which launched in August 2015 as noted in my Geezam blog article entitled “Pebble
Time Steel coming in August 2015 for Busy Fitness Freaks”.
7 million Apple
Watch in Q3 2015 – Why Smartwatches need longer battery life
Interestingly Samsung Galaxy Gear S1 smartwatch sales fell
as Samsung was apparently distracted by the upcoming launch of the Samsung Gear
S2, which launched in September 2015 as reported in my Geezam blog article entitled “Samsung
Galaxy Gear S2 has Tizen OS powered Samsung Pay Winning Potential”.
Samsung, Asus, Huawei, LG and Motorola have since then
launched fresh assaults in what is become a fiercely congested new battle
ground.
However, the competition seems reluctant to roll out
technology innovation such as longer battery life, such as Solar Powered
smartwatches, Kinetic chargers and smartwatches with regular Coin Cell
Batteries.
Instead, they’ve opted to rehash yesteryears designs with
more precious metals such as the US$350 Huawei Watch as described in my MICO Wars blog article
entitled “Why
US$350 Huawei Watch cannot be used for Sex in the shower”.
Hopefully a new year will bring new thinking in the
wearables market, such as smartwatch with longer battery life measured in
months and years and not weeks and days and possibly even paired with VR
(Virtual Reality) headsets.
