Now comes statistical Proof from yet another analyst, this time OnDevice,
that Facebook’s goose in the Social Networking World is cooked as stated in “These
Numbers Show Facebook Is Trailing Social Messaging Apps Globally”,
published 11/26/2013 @ 12:16PM by Parmy Olson, Forbes.
Worse, Facebook is losing Teenagers (ages 13 to 17)
and Millennials (ages 18 to 28) based on dual surveys conducted by Piper Jaffry
and Pew as stated in the article “Facebook
Admits It's Seen A Drop In Usage Among Teens”, published 10/30/2013 @
6:23PM, Jeff Bercovici, Forbes.
And it may be WhatsApp that’s doing the cooking as noted in
my Geezam blog article entitled “How to use
WhatsApp on your Computer” , as FB’s barely holding on in the US market
according to the stats as rendered wonderfully below.
As you can see, Facebook is only king in their own back yard in terms of
Social Messaging. This may seem a bit confusing to those of you that regularly
pour out your souls on Social Networks, but Social Messaging is a cross between
Social Networks and Instant Messaging.
These Social Messaging Platforms are often integrated into the Social Network
back in the Web 2.0 era. WhatsApp is the face of Social Messaging or Mobile
Social Networks as I prefer to call them, especially for Teenagers (ages 13 to
17) and Millennials (ages 18 to 28), based on the more detailed stats from
OnDevice as shown below.
But with smartphones, Mobile Computing means that Instant Messaging App
can build themselves into Social Networks simply by making an App that’s
tailored to the smartphone environment and not the Desktop. That’s what’s
beating Facebook as they’ve been late to come to the Mobile Social Networking
or Social Messaging Party as argued in my blog article
entitled “Facebook
continues to grow despite challenges from Mobile Social Network - Facebook is
Growing Strong like House Tyrell in Game of Thrones”.
Worse it’s becoming very important as Mobile Social Networks on
smartphones are increasingly becoming THE way to contact persons globally, with Voice
Calls, SMS and Emails trailing significantly behind. This is especially true in
the US of A, where analyst CTIA has reported a
decline in the number of persons using SMS to communicate on the smartphones
and is increasingly using Instant Messaging as stated in my blog article
entitled “CTIA
reports a 5% decline in US Texting as Instant Messaging ramps up - WhatsApp's
now Top Gun as The Dead Zone leads Star Trek Into the Darkness”
In a previous blog post on Geezam
entitled “Winter
is Coming as Google+ is on a collision course to beat Facebook by 2016” and
my personal
blog entitled “Google+
is expanding rapidly and is set to beat Facebook by 2016 - Batman the Dark
Knight Rises as the new Social Network King” I’d pointed to that Google is
poised to overtake Facebook in the Social Networking Game!
In fact, just about every Mobile Social Network is beating Facebook,
including Mission impossible Picture-share disappearing Mobile Social Network Snapchat
as noted in my blog
article entitled “Snapchat
now racks up 350 million shares of self-deleting snaps per day - Milennial
Girl’s Litmus Test for Friends and future boyfriends”.
So Facebook is effectively losing Teenagers (ages 13 to 17) and Millennials
(ages 18 to 28) not only to Mobile Social Networks on Smartphones and Tablet
but to Google+ on the Desktop and Chromebooks. More to come on this topic as
this exciting Global Mobile Social Networking Battle rages on!
