Love
him or hate him, you've gotta admire that little hedgehog's resilience.
He's
now back on iOS 8 on the Apple iPhone 6 and Apple iPhone 6 Plus at long last on
Thursday April 30th 2015, with the necessary compatibility updates
having been made by Sega after seven (7) long months of waiting as reported in
the article “Sonic
the Hedgehog games on iOS finally get an update to work on iPhone 6”, published
30 April 2015 by Chris Priestman, Pocket
Gamer.
All
three (3) versions of the Sonic the Hedgehog games have been updated:
1. US$2.99
Sonic
The Hedgehog
2. US$2.99
Sonic
The Hedgehog 2
3. US$2.99
Sonic CD
So
now that it's finally out, why did it take so long, almost seven (7) months
after the Apple iPhone 6 and Apple iPhone 6 came out in September 2014 as
related in my blog
article entitled “Apple
iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus - No Sapphire Screen but 128GB Storage and
NFC-powered Apple Pay in Apple's Biggest iPhone Launch”?
Sonic the Hedgehog now
updated for Apple iPhone 6 – Apple iPhone growth should guarantee a Sonic 3
Remaster
Speculation
abounds, but it appears that it may be related to Sega shutting down their San
Francisco office while the focus on the re-mastering of Sonic 3 for PC and
Digital Gaming. Albeit not a financially stable company, a port towards
smartphone gaming has been helping their bottom line.
This
may have been the same kind of boost that Nintendo is seeking when they made
the decision to partner with DeNa in May 2015 to port Nintendo games to
smartphones as reported in my blog article
entitled “@DeNACorp
and Nintendo partner for Smartphone and Tablet Games - Partnership to boost
Mobile Games as VR and AR Beckons in 2016”.
Check
out this concept video for a Sonic 3 Remaster. It’s not much, but anyone
watching this can see where fans want the series to go to bring this iconic
hero back to a place of veneration.
Still,
the re-mastering of Sonic 3 may remain a pipe dream, despite a fairly
successful petition that hit its peak with some 8,000 signature supporting the
move. the success and critical praise of the previous Sonic re-masters that
started since February 2014 still apparently are not encouraging enough for
Christian Whitehead and his sidekick Simon Thomley to create a re-mastered prototype of Sonic 3 running on
an Apple iPhone 6.
However,
with the current runaway success of the bigger screen 5.5" Apple iPhone 6
Plus, marking the age of Phablet being upon us as noted in my blog article
entitled “Apple
iPhone 6 ahead in Q1 of 2015 based on @K_Worldpanel Stats - Phablets are hot as
Apple Watch Summer Storm coming” ,
perhaps Sega may shake off their procrastination and throw the Sonic 3 remaster
along with these recent updates for the Apple iPhone 6, as they're well worth
the price!
