RIM Blackberry steps up to 1.2GHz and Faster Browser - QNX and Qualcomm Voyage of the Dawn Treader

I see before me the Gladiator lie:
He leans upon his hand – his manly brow
Consents to death, but conquers agony….

Byron, Childe Harold, IV

Despite my dislike for RIM (Research in Motion) and their boring Blackberry, I still like to keep tabs on them, objectively speaking, should they suddenly decided to wise up and get their head in the smartphone game and despite their Tablet wobbles as noted in my Geezam Blog entitled “RIM’s PlayBook needs to become a Real Tablet”.

Seems they have as stated in the article “Hands-on with the BlackBerry Bold 9900, BlackBerry Torch 9810 and 9860”, published AUGUST 3, 2011 11:34 PM PDT By Bonnie Cha, CNET News - Dialed In, with the launch of three (3) new Blackberrys, namely:

  1. BlackBerry Bold 9900/9930
  2. BlackBerry Torch 9810
  3. BlackBerry Torch 9850/9860

Guess Blackberry got my memo on the Blackberry needing to be a real smartphone as stated in my blog article entitled “Apple iOS 4 vs Google Android - BlackBerry Shot the Sheriff”!

I can confidently say is a historical occasion for the Toronto Based RIM. RIM has finally made a smartphone after the failure of the Blackberry Torch 9800 as stated in my blog article entitled “Blackberry Torch 9088 and RIM - Its clobbering time”.

Lights please!! Take a gander at these pictures in paired order as numbered above!!

What impresses me the most is that these are just the opening salvo of phones on offer from Blackberry that I can finally call smartphones. RIM is now bearing:

  1. An improved Blackberry OS 7
  2. A 1.2 GHz Qualcomm processor hardware upgrade
  3. A much improved browser to the tune of 40% speed increases
  4. A Dedicated processor for Graphics, great for Gaming!
  5. Totally touch centric, with the exception of the Bold 9900/9930
  6. NFC (Near Field Communications) on the Bold 9900/9930

“Wow” is all I can say for the improvements as RIM ramps up for a Global push to recapture lost marketshare as stated in the article “RIM launches two new BlackBerry Torch phones”, published Wednesday August 3, 2011 By Alastair Sharp  Reuters, Yahoo News.

Ovum analyst Tony Cripps puts it best, quote: “RIM's new BlackBerry smartphones could well be the most important devices in the Canadian smart device vendor's history, following a recent slowdown in device shipments, staff cuts and doubts over the company's strategy and leadership”.

Guess however, it was the financial toll it took on their stock price as stated in my blog article entitled “RIM decline and Android Ascendancy - No Country for Old Men” that finally got them into action and realizing that the market is now touch-centric. All thanks to the Apple iPhone as stated in my blog article entitled “Apple iPhone and Hardware Quality - The Count of Monte Cristo Hard Knock Life”.

The Blackberry Ban in Saudi Arabia and India as stated in my blog article entitled ‘BlackBerry and India - Shiva the Destroyer” and the article “Blackberry Torch 9088 and RIM - Its clobbering time” only served to improve their brand image, indicating the high level of security of messages sent on their Platform.

Guess it explains in part too why here in Jamaica, the Ministry of Education is issuing some twenty thousand (20,000) teachers with Blackberrys on CUG (Closed User Group), as it’s a great secure Platform to send and store School Grades to a central Secure Server as stated in the article “20,000 BlackBerry phones for Jamaican teachers”, published Friday, August 05, 2011, The Jamaica Observer.

Hopefully RIM can seize the day and also make the Blackberry subsidized to the price of a Nokia 1208 via advertising as stated in my blog article entitled “RIM, Telecom Providers and the Rise of Mobile Commerce - Free Willy Blackberry”. This as advertising is currently being used to subsidize the price of the Amazon Kindle to about US$114, down from a lofty US$139 as stated in my blog article entitled “Amazon Kindle and Advertising - AT&T ShopAlerts Shows Me the Money”.

My ranting in blog article aside, if this is a foretaste of what QNX, their new OS to replace the Blackberry OS come the First Quarter of 2012AD might be like, then things are definitely looking up for RIM as stated in the article “Report: RIM to launch QNX BlackBerry in 1st quarter”, published AUGUST 8, 2011 9:07 AM PDT By Roger Cheng, CNET News - Wireless. Preorders sales of these now touch centric Blackberrys are sure to fuel the Olympic spirit at the London Olympics 2012 on July 27th 2012AD!

An improved App Store via Developer support for QNX is in order. Guess the Blackberry is more than just good for Christmas giveaways as stated in my blog article entitled “BlackBerry Bashing - the phone I hate so much that I would give it away for free”.

Hopeful too, RIM doesn’t let their high hardware quality for which they are noted for by UK analyst WDC in my Geezam Blog article entitled “Android smartphones may be king in 2015AD, but RIM Blackberry quality shines” falter in this The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader (2010) for RIM.
