“I'm finding personally that I'm discovering a whole lot of
music that I wasn't listening to before. I think it's fabulous, and to have
over 15 million on there, and 6.5 million in the paid category, I'm really
happy about it. And I think the runway here is really good”
Apple CEO Tim Cook
during an interview at a Wall Street Journal Technology Conference on Monday
October 19th 2015
Apple has finally put out some numbers on Apple Music, as
believe me, they’re quite impressive.
Apple CEO Tim Cook has finally let loose some figures,
declaring that the fledgling Music Streaming service had clocked an amazing 6.5
million paying subscribers as reported in the article “Apple
Music nabs 6.5M paying subscribers, Tim Cook says”, published October 19,
2015 by Shara Tibken, CNET News.
Tim Cook made this information slip during an interview at a
Wall Street Journal technology conference on Monday October 19th 2015 as
reported in the article “Apple
CEO Tim Cook: Apple Music Has 15 Million Users”, published October 20, 2015
by Daisuke Wakabayashi, Wall Street Journal.
Speaking on other things, such as activism and Apple's
alledged plans to make an All-Electric Vehicle, the also made drop another
important titbit; the launch date for Apple TV, which is on Monday October 26th
2015.
Apple Music beaten
Deezer and Pandora – Spotify will be beaten by New Years 2016
But back to Apple Music!!
He also pointed out that the three (3) month old music
streaming service now has only 8.5 million people on the 90-dsay trial.
That means that 77.27% of those 11 million trail users
revealed by Apple executive Jimmy Iovine in an interview with USA Today on
Thursday August 6th 2015 as reported in my blog article
entitled “Apple
Music 11 Million Trial users – Why 100 million Apple Music Subscribers by 2016
versus @Spotify and @TIDALHiFi beckons” have truly committed to Apple
Music.
Also the total number of paid and trial subscribers has
swelled to 15 million, up from the original 11 million, a 4 million increase
over a period of 3 months.
With those numbers, they've beaten out rival Deezer with 6.3
million and Pandora with 3.9 million paying subscribers in just three months as
noted in the article “Apple
Music: 6.5m people have paid for first month of streaming service”,
published Tuesday 20 October 2015 by Stuart Dredge, The UK Guardian.
Spotify has some 20 million paying subscribers and 75
million users overall, both free and paying overall based on Spotify's own
numbers in a June 2015
Press Release.
At this rate, they'll eclipse Spotify's 20 million paying
subscriber by January 2015 and another four years approximately to surpass
their overall user base of 75 million as noted in the article “Spotify
Has 20 Million Paid Subscribers”, published June 10, 2015 By Peter Kafka, Recode.
Apparently the US$10 for basic service with a US$14.99 per
month Shared Family Plan for 6 people plus the Beats 1 24/7 Radio station and a
chance to Connect with your favourite artist was more compelling than Spotify.
This rate of adoption is very fast for any Streaming Service and can be seen as
a blueprint on how to successfully launch a Streaming Service!
