“ICT
is driving tremendous advancement of our society. According to recent
statistics, digital infrastructure, represented by the broadband Internet, has
surpassed highway infrastructure in terms of economic importance, contributing
a large percentage to global economic output. ICT is playing a more and more
crucial role in helping nations worldwide develop their economies and enhance
their overall national competitiveness”
General Manager of
Huawei Jamaica, Allen Chenyue commenting on their plans to host their ICT
Innovation Exhibition 2016 in Jamaica
Huawei
has huge plans for Jamaica in the ICT Technology and Telecomunications space.
For
the first time in Jamaica's history, the Chinese ICT (Information and Communications)
company will be bringing their ICT Innovation Exhibition to Jamaica as reported
in the article “Jamaica
selected for Huawei Global ICT Roadshow 2016”, published June 5, 2016, Loop News.
ICT
Innovation Exhibition 2016 is set for Tuesday June 7th to Thursday
June 9th, 2016 at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel, New Kingston. The three
(3) day event, which has the theme ‘Open ROADS for a Better Connected World’ is
intended to showcase Huawei's leading advanced technologies, products and
solutions for the Telecoms and ICT Sectors.
So
why was Jamaica chosen?
Huawei and Jamaica –
ICT on the Rise in Jamaica is an opportunity for Huawei
Huawei
is a multinational Chinese Telecom Equipment and ICT Provider located in Shenzhen,
China whose prowess rivals that of some of the best Silicon Valley Companies in
California!
Jamaica
was chosen, as we are showing marked progress in our integration and usage of ICT
technologies in Jamaica, to quote General Manager of Huawei Jamaica, Allen
Chenyue: “The Jamaican market is very progressive in its ICT development and
ambitions, so it was the natural choice for our company to select this country
to host our ICT Innovation Exhibition for 2016”.
Huawei's
ICT Innovation Exhibition 2016 has been hosted in many countries around the
world as noted in the article “Jamaica
Selected For 2016 Huawei Global Roadshow”, Published Sunday June 5, 2016, The Jamaica Gleaner.
This
includes such diverse locations as:
1.
Australia
2.
Egypt
3.
Malaysia
4.
Colombia
5.
Panama
6.
Trinidad and Tobago
According
to General Manager of Huawei Jamaica, Allen Chenyue, Huawei’s aim is to make superior technology
affordable to all Jamaicans and make ICT a driver of growth, quote: “The theme
of our Roadshow is ‘Open ROADS for a Better Connected World’ because Huawei
strongly believes that we must provide ubiquitous broadband connectivity,
enable agile innovations everywhere and
bring a superior technology experience to everyone at an affordable price. We
want to work with Jamaica on their journey to economic growth through ICT”.
So
what will be on show at Huawei's ICT Innovation Exhibition 2016?
Huawei's ICT Innovation
Exhibition 2016 - Increasing Brand awareness in Jamaica
Huawei's
ICT Innovation Exhibition 2016 will showcase the fruit of their Research Labour
in terms of Products, Service and Technology Solution offerings in the ICT and
Telecoms Sector!
Their
progress is thanks to the company investing some 10% to 15% of their revenue in
ICT R&D (Research and Developement). Huawei plans to have twenty (20)
technology Products, Services and Technology Solutions in the following areas:
1.
Video Everywhere
2.
Cloud reforms your business
3.
Enabling Digital Operation
4.
Ubiquitous Ultra Mobile Broadband
5.
Experience-driven Ultra Fixed Broadband
6.
Huawei Enterprise Business Solution
7.
Huawei Consumer Device
By
having a ICT Innovation Exhibition 2016 with scheduled leadership talks,
presentations and displays, the exhibition hope to demonstrate to their
potential Jamaican clients in the ICT, Telecommunications and the Jamaican Government
that they possess affordable technology that will allow Jamaica to use ICT to
foster Growth.
Jamaicans
mainly know Huawei as a company that makes smartphones, which they now sell
unlocked in partnership with Lasco Jamaica as noted in my blog article entitled
“Huawei
and Lasco to sell Unlocked dual-SIM smartphones - Why Number Portability means
Open Market for unlocked smartphone”.
They
had recently opened an Experience store at Tropical Plaza on Constant Spring
Road as reported in the article “Tech
Times: Huawei Opens Store In Jamaica”, Published Monday April 11, 2016, The Jamaica Gleaner.
However,
they still have not made much headway into Jamaica as it relates to the other technology
Products, Services and Technology Solutions that they sell. Huawei's ICT Innovation
Exhibition 2016 therefore serves the purpose of increasing their brand
awareness in Jamaica by having these technology Products, Services and
Technology Solutions on display.
Huawei's ICT Innovation

Here’s a sneak peek of what they'll experience while interning at Huawei in Shenzhen,
China
So
says General Manager of Huawei Jamaica, quote: In addition, as part of the
efforts Huawei makes to the development of ICT in the country and our social
responsibility, the Exhibition will be opened to 45 selected university
students from both UWI and UTECH. This will allow them, Jamaica’s young
talents, to learn more about ICT technologies, industry trends and Huawei.”
