“Designed
to meet the evolving security needs of defense and security customers, Boeing
has released a modular smartphone to enable secure access and exchange of
critical data and communications on a trusted mobile device. Boeing has drawn
on its deep expertise in information assurance, advanced technology partners
and a US-based manufacturer to provide an innovative, secure and flexible
mobile solution.”
Boeing spokeswoman
Rebecca Yeamans speaking to CNET News on Wednesday February 26th 2014
on the Boeing Black Phone
Back
in 2012, I read a story about Boeing planning to make a super secure smartphone
based on the Google Android OS as stated in “Boeing
to make super secure Android phone”, published April 12, 2012 4:30 PM PDT
by Eric Mack, CNET News.
Fast
Forward two years later to 2014! Boeing’s plans have finally come to life with
the Boeing Black smartphone that was filed
with the FCC (Federal Communications Commission) on Wednesday February 26th
2014 as stated in “Boeing's
'Black' smartphone will deactivate if tampered with”, published February
26, 2014 3:51 PM PST by Dara Kerr, CNET News
and “Boeing
offering 'black phone' for secure communications”, published Wednesday Feb
26, 2014 8:44pm EST BY ALWYN SCOTT, Reuters.
Their
super secret smartphone, the Black Phone, wasn’t very super secret, as it made
it onto the Geezam blog in Kelroy’s
article entitled “Boeing
Black Smartphone designed for handling top secret communications”.
Boeing Black smartphone
– Ambassadors, Presidents, Prime Ministers and World Leaders World phone
Not
much is known about this smartphone, even now some six (6) months since
information leaked of this super spy smartphone. It’s 132.8mm by 68.58mm (5.2”
by 2.7”) that’s known of to be Dual SIM (Subscriber Identification Module)
smartphone with support GSM, WCDMA, and 4GLTE.
In
short, a Boeing Black smartphone is an ambassadors, presidents and World
Leaders World phone that enables calls anywhere, anytime as stated in “Boeing offering 'black phone' for
secure communications”, published Thursday, 27 Feb 2014 1:31 PM ET, CNBC!
Apparently
Boeing wants it to remain under wraps, as it’s made for enterprise clients and
isn’t intended for general sale to the public, to quote the letter that was
included with the FCC filing at the time:
“Boeing's Black phone will be sold primarily to government agencies and
companies engaged in contractual activities with those agencies that are
related to defense and homeland security”.
For
that reason, specs are basically unavailable for this smartphone, as it’s
protected by loads of Boeing Red tape and NDA (Non-Disclosure Agreements)
signed between Boeing and their potential Enterprise and Corporate Clients,
some of whom may even be the US Government spy agencies such as the NSA
(National Security Agency) and the CIA (Central Intelligence Agency). What is
known is the design team that made the Boeing Black smartphone, who are mostly
private Military contractors:
1. Argon
ST Inc
2. Digital
Receiver Technology Inc
3. Kestrel
Enterprises Inc
4. Ravenwing
Inc
5. Solutions
Made Simple Inc
This
makes it all the more interesting a device to blog about!
Best
of all, it’s sealed tight with screws that are set in such a manner that any
attempt to tamper with the phone will cause it erase all data according to the
letter that was included with the FCC filing at the time, quote: “The Boeing
Black phone is manufactured as a sealed device both with epoxy around the
casing and with screws, the heads of which are covered with tamper proof
covering to identify attempted disassembly. Any attempt to break open the
casing of the device would trigger functions that would delete the data and
software contained within the device and make the device inoperable”.
Boeing Black phone
Security - NSA and CIA Spy vs Spy smartphone that self-destructs in 5 seconds
If
this smartphone is more secure than the SGP Technologies Blackphone or even the
Blackberry, then the Boeing Blackphone is a potential new contender in the
Enterprise and Corporate world that loves secrecy.
Especially
as many other phones is hackable via a Baseband Processor Attack as
demonstrated at Black Hat by Accuvant research scientists Mr. Mathew Solnik and
Mr. Marc Blanchou as explained in my blog article entitled
“How
to Hack ANY Blackberry or Smartphone - SGP Technologies survived in the Lion’s
Den as Blackphone Hack was cover for Blackberry Baseband Hack”.
Most
likely this Boeing Black smartphone may not have access to the Google Play Store, as there are Apps
that can spy on your other Apps data and steal your Credit Card and other
Credentials as described in my blog article
entitled “Twitter’s
one-click Buy Button – How One-Click E-Commerce is Twitter’s Great Smurfberry
Scam Confessions of a Shopaholic”.
Folks,
this smartphone has been on my Radar since February 2014. When more news comes
to light, it’ll shine very bright on my blog, no matter how secret this Boeing
Black smartphone may be.
